  1. LOL - the problem with that is; both 'sides' are convinced they're 'right' and 'think critically'.

  3. This would make infinite sense. Actually our lack of critical thinking will be our undoing as a nation. It is wicked cool. You will kill me but I like the Charger next to it much better.

  5. ^ The restored red one, and the unrestored one I posted, seem to be the only current / existing examples on the 'net. In all my vintage ramblings, I've only recently become aware of it (maybe 5 years ago), and I've not seen any other post circa '60 pics.

  9. I think if EVs (BEVs) with a decent range are available in the $25-45k range---which is where a typical vehicle is today at the heart of the market---and comparable in size and features to a typical Corolla, Camry, Rav4, Highlander, etc---and look like a typical mainstream vehicle---not a tiny potato on wheels-- then they may take off.... The only things available new for $15k are horrid subcompacts for which a 5 yr old used car would be infinitely preferable.

  11. I'm going to liquidate some vintage stuff I've had for years & don't need. I picked up this '52 Pontiac light-up hood ornament from a junkyard I used to frequent heavily- I'm sure I've owned this since the late '80s. Hope to get $275 for it as is.

  12. That's a comment about me. I'm talking about comments about current conditions and situations. It seems people who get upset about stereotyping are usually defensive or ridiculously progressive. Stereotypes exist because people observe them. Companies and organizations need to stereotype so they can focus on where to put their marketing dollars. Automakers know exactly who their demographic is, which is stereotyping. And it's all validated by social psychology and marketing research studies. Before I embark on travel, I read travel books. These bohemian a.f. travel writers stereotype away, telling you how the people will be, the dynamics to expect, scams and typical prey, and all that. And, having traveled on 4 continents, it was mostly all true. Get out of Amish country more. The Boeing thing has been disturbing. So has their stock price (BA). The stock price kept rocketing upward despite previous problems with 787 batteries and then the lengthy 737 Max grounding. I think reality finally caught up with the whole situation. The Europeans seem to be more loyal to Airbus, for obvious reasons. Airbus has shelved the entire 380 program. For as grandiose as it was/is, the program was not very long lived. But their volume for short-range and mid-range aircraft is healthy, it seems. I only like their Airbus 340, which has lost favor because of its fuel consumption. OTOH, I like every other Boeing airplane more than the Airbus equivalent. Once flew on one of these Iberia Airbus 340-600s (^) from Chicago-O'Hare to Madrid and it's an incredible machine.

  13. We are going to play hell when we start running short of the stuff On the contrary we are all blinded by our own biases and cultural upbringing. Are you saying you are without bias or presuppositions?

  14. We have lost the ability to think clearly. Why do you think we have the worst coronavirus crisis in the world? Vietnam is doing better than we are...as are a ton of other countries. Boeing is starting to look like it is in real trouble vs Airbus. Airbus has a backlog of 7500 plus planes boing is down to a little over 4000. Airbus has a much better cash flow and product portfolio. Yes our current leadership in Washington has the IQ of a fence post...but the problem goes far beyond Washington. In theory it is easier to build homes and apartments when everything is at a right angle...so in reality we all live in boxes. The intelligent among us realize our presuppositions and biases and try to adjust our thinking. But metaphorically and architecturally living in a box is inevitable.

  15. Exactly. Not helped much by celebrities who are more accessible through the media and pitch their points of view, which stupid people buy, yet these celebrities are in no way qualified to opine professionally on much of anything other than their occupations. And, as usual, I get a downvote on my comment ... which would be fine if it was accompanied by a cogent argument. It never is. Instead, it's a lob and run.

  17. Seems since the US is up in the air for EVs due to the craziness of our political current administration, Nissan has moved forward with Europe showing off many Test Mules that are new Production ready to drum up excitement for 2021 sales. Currently other than the Concept auto they showed off, no test mules have been built that would meet US auto requirements. Nissan is saying at the earliest, 2022 will be when they might have working prototypes testing in the US. Sad that the Ignorance of DC is holding back awesome technology that is good for the planet and people. https://www.greencarreports.com/news/1130151_nissan-teases-potential-of-ariya-electric-crossover-for-europe-as-us-election-nears

  18. The more research I have done, the more excited I am by an EV Crate package as this is the most complete system to date that would allow a much easier conversion. I could see doing this to my 1994 GMC SLE suburban. With the Pandemic, I have not done anything other then have it on blocks. This package of a electric motor, connector to the transmission, controllers, wiring, etc. would make a great package for converting and enjoying locally my Suburban. Fuel at home and never have to deal with the gas station again for it. I am thinking that I could see them use their Ultium motor family to offer various power versions of the electric motors with various battery packs depending on what a person wants to spend. To Quote GM: this is only the beginning. “Chevrolet Performance is also evaluating additional eCrate packages with higher-performance options and new battery configurations to fit a wider range of aftermarket applications.” Chevrolet mentioned transitioning to the modular Ultium battery system in the future. In addition to powering the new Hummer EV, Ultium batteries are interesting because they’re more flexible in their arrangement and placement, which would be perfect for restomod project. Just read a couple more auto news stories that seem to confirm a 6.8 L supercharged V8 for a GT500 and all new Ford Raptor. It seems the Raptor with TT V6 are sitting on the lots as people who are spending that kind of money are not interested in a Turbo V6, they want V8. The deal also will create an additional 300 jobs as Ford will have their battery production for EVs built here being close to Canada's Cobalt mine. https://windsorstar.com/news/local-news/breaking-unifor-and-ford-reach-tentative-agreement

  20. Insider rumor (Canadian Ford union) is that Ford is developing a 415 CI (6.8L) pushrod V8 (derived from the Super Duty 7.3L) for an option in the next generation '23 Mustang. Seems interesting.

  21. Cool photo. AZ was relatively late in being admitted to the Union ... 1912, IIRC. L.A. also has streets where palm trees are laid out on the "lawn strips," as they are called out West, so they would resemble a colonnade. I obviously like the word colonnade. - - - - - This would definitely be contrary to democracy. It could be useful if they tested people for their critical thinking skills and then "weighed" votes accordingly. Just a random thought that has gone through my head when I see things that make me SMH.

  22. It has been found that you can put together a standard set of photo's with basic instructions and even a person with no experience ever taking a picture can take a better picture than one that has taken just basic family photo's. If mgmt. really wanted to improve, a good mgr. would and could put together a basic 411 info packet for the person responsible on how and from what angles to take the pictures. Having some basic picture taking standards would drastically improve the quality and consistency of the images and over all online experience for those looking to buy a used or new auto. Perfect reason as to why Big Oil should not fear EV's.

  25. As I have said here, when BEVs start at $15K or less, then the switch will happen. Buyers are not ready for an EV that costs MORE than a gas-powered car, period. Here is a challenge for all the automakers who will build an EV: look at the latest prices of a new Corolla or Civic and undersell THOSE CARS.

  26. Why in this age of 6, 8, 10, 12 megapixel cameras abounding, do so many dealerships still photograph their cars to 600 and 800 pixel photo sizes, on shit cameras from 2009? Or maybe they just post the photos at that reduced size for space reasons.....when monitors these days are 1900+ pixels.... Those crappy photos on the dealer website do not make me want to go look at your 50,000 dollar car. Even worse, many don't even photo their cars anymore. They leave up those stock animation quality rendered images of the manufacturer. Many photograph their vehicles in a weird space with completely heinous and unflattering fluorescent lighting as well. Vroom's photos are like the vaseline on lens images of penthouse from the 70's and 80's. I realize prepping cars for sale takes work and cost is involved (i have worked at a dealership); but take some more time and care to photograph your inventory well, it makes it more presentable. You don't need 80 pictures.....20-40 will work if they are high quality photos and capture each image to show relevant things.

  27. Very excited that Connect and Cruise will use the Ultium battery and motors to offer various conversion kits with the controllers and wires. https://media.gm.com/media/us/en/chevrolet/news.detail.html/content/Pages/news/us/en/2020/oct/1029-sema360.html First Kit out next year: The 60-kWh Electric Connect and Cruise package, expected to be available in the second half of 2021, includes: 60-kWh battery pack 200-horsepower electric motor / 266 lb-ft of Torque DC-to-AC power inverter to drive the electric motor DC-to-DC power converter to power low-voltage systems Wiring harnesses, controllers and water pumps for battery heating and cooling This kit alone is more power than many 70's or 80's auto's had. GM will not confirm or deny, but someone let slip that this first conversion kit would be about $14,000. Not bad when you think of the motor, battery pack, controllers, wires, etc. Much cheaper to have an auto you want to drive that is EV than to buy new. As the media press release states, GM will continue to offer Connect and Cruise solutions from the LSX V-8s to eCrate conversion kits. Imagine putting in the 1000HP / 11,500 lb-ft torque motors and battery pack from the Hummer into my 1994 Suburban. AWD Awesome Power Performance!!! with the best part being fueling from home over night.

  29. I really want to find a 73-87 GM Chevy/GMC square body pickup and do this conversion. Seriously. Need to find a nice clean rust free truck from Texas or oaklahoma or someplace. I think it would be killer.
