  2. My uncle Stanley’s list of autos. Back when brand loyalty was fairly common & strong. He passed in ‘86; the ‘76 was his last and the only one I saw. Wish he had kept the ‘58 & ‘59.

  3. Exactly! Those small turbos work a lot harder and turn higher rpm to keep up. that’s why I think comparing mileage doesn’t tell the whole story. Bring in something like Voltec or any other plug in hybrid and the matters are even more complicated

  4. @ccap41I can't say anything about other brands but EGO stuff I am using is very good. Initially I bought a lawn mower and than slowly when it was on sale I got trimmer, hedge trimmer, weed wacker and the chain saw. I have only two batteries, bigger one that came with the mower and a smaller one that came with one of the tools (rest of the tools I bought without the battery, much cheaper that way). I can't attest how all of that works for the long run but in two years I have been using it was great, good quality tools.

  5. Go with the extra cost for the Electric @ccap41, you'll make it up over the next bunch of years. I bought a craftsman gas powered mower when I bought my house back in 2003. Briggs engine, self propelled, mulcher/bagger, the whole kit. The first 5ish years were fine. After that it started costing $50 - $90 a year in parts just to keep it running. Then you have to go out and get gas for it... it's a huge hassle. It was never enough to justify replacing it, but enough to be annoying on a weekend when I was trying to get things done and had to go get a part. When Albert's parents moved out of their house into an apartment a bunch of years ago, I got his dad's old Black and Decker corded pushmower. It's likely the same age as my Craftsman was, but I just threw it into storage at one of my apartment buildings and forgot about it for years. Eventually the Craftsman just got too irritating to deal with, so I put it out to the curb and went and got the electric. The thing is as basic as basic can be, but it just runs. I don't have to get gas, I don't have to change air filters, I don't have to change oil.... plus its very light weight. Eventually I'll need to get a battery electric because I want to bring my lower yard back from the wilderness and plant grass down there, but the B&D suits my needs just fine until I do.

  6. WOW, Stupidity in Arizona knows no end. Ford dealer wants $154,260 for a 4 banger model of the Bronco Sport and $112,620 for a 3 banger model. Guess they think being the first to have the auto with a $100,000 mark up is ok. Anyone who buys them is truly stupid. This 2021 Ford Bronco Sport Badlands Costs $154,260 and That’s Not a Joke - autoevolution This does seem perfect for @A Horse With No Name has said he would like for a Central America Road Trip.

  7. Same reason Corvettes get such great mileage on the hwy. power/weight ratio. I've gotten 30-32 mpg cruising at 75-80 mph Phx to Vegas and there's some elevation change as well. At 80 mph I'm at 1,800-2,000 rpm. Now my old square body 3/4 ton I had with 350cid 4bbl, TH400 3 spd. with 4:10's I was at 3,000-3,200 rpm at 65 mph and regularly got 9 mpg whether towing or not. Another reason Ford EcoBoost in the F150 doesn't get any better mpg's sometimes even worse than a GM Silverado/Sierra competitive V8 does. That small V6 is working a lot harder, the turbos are stuffing the air and fuel in.

  9. This is the rare case that one actually can. Supporting a bloat of excess dealers is costly, both for the dealers and for Cadillac. Here in the greater Pittsburgh metro I can only think of 4 BMW dealers and 4 Mercedes dealers. Cadillac has 10. Those 10 Cadillac dealers not only have to compete with the Germans, but also with each other. That means a race to the bottom on prices. Fewer Cadillac dealers will be able to charge higher prices without people saying "I'll just go up the street". And yes, I know Cadillac has a higher average transaction price, but there is a lot of overhead to run 10 dealers instead of 4.

  10. I read a little more into it than what is on the surface. Cadillac has 880 dealers. BMW has ~350 and Benz has around ~360. I think this whole move is Cadillac trying to cull dead weight in the most palatable way possible. They can always "extend" a model run later with no consequences.

Looks like it worked, a troll in Washington State just found it! Someone is just jealous it's not going to be in their swampy State to see if they can fit their Hightower a$$ in it ?

  14. We could say the same thing about your state or any state. California is not perfect, but has led the nation in looking for better ways to insure people have a healthy life. Nothing wrong with working to ensure healthy air, drinking water, etc. One only has to look at how choked the skys of LA were in the 70's with leaded gas compared to now with seeing the mountain ranges. 70's compared to today.

  15. So Musk has confirmed he has moved to Texas and is planning to move the Tesla HQ to Texas as well. He was not willing to answer if he will eventually move the Tesla factory from California. Elon Musk confirms he's moved to Texas after a months-long fight with California (msn.com) Sadly, he has forgotten that California is what allowed him to survive and grow to where he is today as without the CA Carb mandates and the money the state put into allowing people to buy his auto's with discounts both federally and state that gave thousands of people up to $15,000 discounts on buying a Tesla. Arrogant prick. I hope Rivian and GM put them in their place in the market place. Yes Tesla has pushed to new levels the EV power Train. Other than that, his autos suck.

  16. My uncle Melvin and aunt Wilma were serial Buick owners. The ones I remember were a ‘73 Centurion 2dr, ‘75 Regal 2dr, ‘78 Electra, ‘81 Electra, ‘81 Riviera, ‘86 Electra, ‘87 Riviera, ‘92 Park Avenue, ‘96 Riviera, and lastly an ‘02 Park Avenue.. I’ve seen an old photo of them in the 60s with a ‘64 Wildcat. On the other hand, Wilma’s sister Alma and uncle Dave were Oldsmobile people. My uncle Paul once had a ‘48 Ford Sportsman convertible, an early Bronco, a ‘65 Mustang. He is now approaching 80 and has a late model Acura MDX...

  17. Subsequent generations of Escalades have definitely done a better job in differentiating themselves from their Chevy and GMC siblings than the first couple generations did. The very first Escalade was literally identical to the Denali other than grille and badging. Lexus has generally done a good job differentiating themselves from US market Toyotas...though the LX has always been pretty similar to the Land Cruiser besides the front end.

I'd rather pay a specialist...that's how the economy works... I get paid for my specialized work product so I can pay others for their specialized goods and services...can't do everything myself.

  20. I think we need a different measure of how much a vehicle has been used rather than just mileage. I'm sure we've all seen those ads for used cars saying "All highway miles!", but I think in addition to that, we have to start to take powertrain setup into consideration. When I bought my Avalanche, it only had 12,800 miles on it which is insanely low for a 7 year old truck. But for all I knew, those could have been all city miles where the truck was idling and going through short bursts of acceleration. But I actually know it was mostly highway miles because these trucks also have an engine hour monitor on them. I don't remember what it was when I bought it, but I think somewhere just over 400 hours. It has 534 hours on it today. That means for its entire life it has averaged 34 miles per hour. This is part of the reason I think we need a better measurement of vehicle use. The other part is that on my suburban commute to work, I rarely break 2,000 rpm, but in the Encore, I was regularly going well over that because the little 1.4T had to work so hard compared to the 5.3 in the truck. A hybrid or Voltec powertrain also changes the calculus. I am helping my part-time employee pick out a new to him car and I've semi-sold him on a used Volt. I had to explain to him that the Volt motor only runs 50% of the time, so a higher mileage example is still okay. I think some sort of calculation for this should become standard. Probably a function of (Average RPM per mile * miles)/engine hours. This would give you a better idea of how hard the engine worked and for how long rather than the somewhat meaningless miles.

  21. I had a Nighthawk with Wifi6 from Costco and without the extender, it couldn't get signal to my office. ? At the moment the top two are the Linksys Velop Mesh 6 or the Google Wifi Mesh. I like the Netgear Orbi 6 Mesh, but they're obscenely expensive. $429 for a set of 3 at Costco. I don't like the Google Wifi Mesh for privacy concerns, but I checked my parent's wifi last night and you can change the DNS servers. Yeah, my parents have been happy with theirs. Coverage in their house is terrible because it's so spread out.

  23. Benz has 383. The way I look at it- GM sells vehicles to dealers. They get their money up front, they get the destination money to ship it... and the longer a dealer has a given vehicle on their lot, the longer GM takes to give that dealer it's sales kickback ('withholding'). Having a quantity of "under-performing" dealers is no skin off GM's back. But undoubtedly there are more subtleties to it; perhaps simplification of logistics and record-keeping, IDK. But a dealership's profit/loss has no direct impact on GM Corporate.

  24. Oh I've already been convinced of battery powered yard tools. The upsides to them over gas and 2-stroke tools is tenfold. I'm still rocking an old Cub Cadet from probably around 2000 for the lawn as I don't have a garage built yet so I'm not buying anything nice to leave out back. Plus, I'm still not sure what I want to get for the lawn. As of now, there is no electric version I'd want but I've heard rumors of some larger zero turn battery powered mowers. I just want an electric push mower because I also enjoy walking the yard and would probably like to do that every other mow, at least. Thanks to @David, now I'm torn between EGO, Toro, and Husqvarna. The Ego line seems to be quite a bit more though so I may still go with one of the other two. Toro's line of string trimmer, leaf blower, and mower end up $921 at Home Depot Egos line of string trimmer, leaf blower, and mower end op $1177 at Lowes. Those specific Ego tools are sllllightly better than the comparable Toro ones and the mower comes with a 7.5ah battery compared to Toro's 6.0ah.

  27. I've done this for the Toronado as sometimes parts for it are hard to source. I have a collection of some of the hard to source parts from when they end up in the virtual clearance bin at RockAuto. Weird stuff like turn-signal switches, suspension parts, etc. When I first bought it I snagged a pair of front shocks, AC Delcos, for it for $8 each on clearance and had a local shop put them on. I did it for the Encore a couple times when I bought the parts intending to do the work myself, but then couldn't find the time to do it. The Buick dealership didn't give me any lip about it because I had bought genuine AC Delco still sealed in the box.

  29. The whole taxing of retirement accounts and pensions is just wrong IMHO. Originally Social Security was to be tax free, but thanks to the IDIOTS in both Parties, we had taxes put on SS Benefits and then borrowing against it to give to defense contractors which is about bankrupting SS. One should not have to be taxed in your retirement years I feel. I do feel those that are in the high income bracket should pay their fair share of taxes. I see no reason why a person who makes millions should only pay 16% tax when I bust my ass off and have to pay 28%. That is broken and needs to be addressed across the whole nation with everyone paying their fair share even the 1% crowd.

  31. Same thing when Earnhardt Auto Group bought Legends Cadillac in N Scottsdale and remodeled it. It wasn't a bad dealership just dated, 80's dated. I always liked the nostalgic feeling when you walked into the showroom at Legends though, call me old school ha. It's something Lexus and Infiniti dealerships couldn't replicate because they weren't even around yet. Here's some GM/Cadillac AZ history: One of the oldest car dealerships in Arizona was Lund Cadillac off of E Bell Rd. near 13th St. built by Bob Lund with help from GM Corp. which was rare, but it was because Bob was a top selling big wig at GM and ended up as the General Manager of Cadillac and Chevrolet in the 70's. He retired from GM as an Executive VP in 1985. Bob also owned Legends Cadillac in N Scottsdale and Kachina Cadillac down in Chandler that was also sold to Earnhardt Auto Group in 2015. Lund Cadillac is where I bought my '13 CTS-V Coupe a couple of years before they closed it down. It was an old school but upscale concrete building all white with big pillars on the front and a water feature with fountains in the middle of the drive. Larry Van Tuyl bought the Lund Cadillac dealership, but not the property, from John Lund (Bob's son who took it over) in 2015 and John sold the property to Fry's Food Stores/Kroger for $6MM which was a steal because it was a huge 5 acre lot off of a main thoroughfare. Van Tuyl moved the dealership out to Glendale to get coverage out there for Cadillac where they built a brand new dealership and renamed it Arrowhead Cadillac, which is now owned by Berkshire Hathaway Automotive along with Van Chevy and all the Van Tuyl dealerships in the nation. The Lund dealership was demolished in 2016 and a huge Fry's Marketplace went in along with a Fry's gas station and many other retail shops and restaurants. Kind of sad that all the automotive history went with it, the area doesn't look the same at all. End of an Era... https://www.autonews.com/article/19991018/ANA/910180724/super-seller-two-decades-after-his-3-7-million-heyday-at-chevy-bob-lund-is-still-moving-iron

  34. But that's not what's happening with this buy-out offfering. - - - - - Both Caddys above are NOT Eldorados- the Big E was convertible-only from '61 thru '66. - - - - - I am getting a little sick of all the colorization of vintage B&W photos. I may start an 'Unimbibed' effort that de-colorizes colorized photos back to B&W. It's just one person's guess/opinion on what the colors were, anyway. 'Graininess' has nothing to do with color vs. B&W. Some of the best quality photos are turn-of-the-century silver gelatin prints; WAY better than color photos were for a LONG time. This pic is 1910 :

  35. While I agree with much of what you say, I also think GM has had WAY TOO LONG an Overly Large amount of poor quality dealerships and no one has really been willing to step up and say you have to do business this way and sell this amount as a luxury dealer to stay in the game. Otherwise we yank the dealership from you. I think GM is taking a piss poor way out of culling dealerships this way, but it will in the long run make Cadillac stronger as they keep the dealers who are willing to invest for the future rather than the bottom feeding hang on that are really more focused elsewhere to make the bulk of their money and if someone wants to drop coin on a Cadillac they will take that sale too. Time to clear our the weak dealerships that from Sales to service offer piss poor experience. The year I lived in Texas, visited a Cadillac Dealership that was north of the mid cities and just south of my house on Grape Vine lake and I remember both my dad and I where amazed they were considered a luxury dealership in the piss poor old building that smelled and had no ambition to really sell, more about servicing the seniors living in the area that did not question anything. Saw no reason for the dealership to exist as a Cadillac dealership and this was back in 1994. So Culling the dealerships is needed.

  38. I read about this over the weekend. Cadillac dealer buddy of mine here in AZ said there is a TON of push back from all 880 current dealers who are not happy. It really is ridiculous. No reason they can't offer both EV and ICE pushing for all EV by 2030 is overly ambitious of GM top brass. They just know there is more margin made per unit with less assembly and maintenance to deal with, but not everyone is onboard with it. I think it will alienate many diehard Cadillac fans, the V cars are so impressive, they can easily equal or take down the German rivals in performance and build quality.

  44. Hahaha no sh!t Illinois is a dumpster fire. Our lovely politicians haven't had a balanced budget since 2015. They firmly believe in raising taxes instead of cutting wasteful spending. They attempted to pull a fast one this past November with a "fair tax" bill. It was to "only raise taxes on people making over 200 or 250k" a year but had wording in it to allow them to increase every tax bracket at any time along with the ability to tax retirement accounts and pensions.
