Naming "schemes" are there for the inane. So are ascending 'schemes' like X1, X2, X3, X4, X5, X6, X7. Nursery school stuff. So is naming vehicles after government-defined 'segments' like 'C'. Could it be any more clinical. I hate all of it. At least at one point, decades ago, mercedes' named vehicles after engine displacement. That had actual meaning to the product. Of course, that proved to be short-of-sight when displacements changed but the advertising investment was built into the earlier numeric, so they lazily kept it and dismissed earlier claims with a 'Oh, it doesn't mean that which we said it did, anymore'. BMW did this same sh!t with the 'i' suffix. Reminds me again of all the advertising hay Daimler tried to make over their ribbed taillight lenses 'keeping them clean from grime 'for safety!!'.... until (thankfully) the trend of heavily ribbed auto surfaces grew stale, mercedes dropped all ribbed taillights (and cladding) and forget all their 'scientific' claims there. Now we have still more wildly-inaccurate engine displacement monikers tied to vehicles with zero displacement from MB. Lame, squared.2 points

But the rest of the VW lineup is Taos, Tiguan, Atlas, Jetta, Passat, etc. Why does 1 brand have two naming schemes? Same can be said about Cadillac. And likewise with Kia and the K5, Telluride, EV6. Pick a freaking naming scheme and also calling cars EV1, EV2, EV3, EV4, etc is lazy. Probably why VW Group global sales in 2021 were at a 10 year low, not a competitive line up. And Mercedes names before you go there mean something as C is for C-segment, E is executive segment, S is sonder-klase, or special class, Geländewagen means all terrain, etc.2 points

^ Here's where it's going to get truly hilarious. The 'go to' SMK play, sales volume = bestest, is never going to be mentioned again WRT MB's electrics. They ceded a full decade to Tesla in the segment and they're never going to catch up. MB is a distant follower, and with underwhelming & polarizing product here.2 points

@smk4565-A quote from A comparo between the EQS and Lucid Air. Regarding the EQS, ”Finish, fitment, and quality is typical Mercedes perfection, but materials are good, not great. There's a marked use of plastic where it should/would be metal on its traditional gas-powered namesake.” ”The rest of the EQS' cabin is relatively straightforward and familiar, though if we hold fast to the idea of this serving as the S-Class of EVs, the interior is the largest disconnect. There's plenty of limo-esque legroom, but thanks to battery packaging and overall odd proportions, rear passengers have a tall knee angle thanks to a high floor that could prove uncomfortable for some. Still, both front and back seats are large and very comfortable, lending a lounge-like feel to the whole experience.” and lastly (in the same comparison) ”Add to this poor visibility, high frontal cowl, acres of LED accent lighting, and the slab of infotainment screen, and this is one of the most inelegantly presented non-AMG Mercedes we've interacted with in some time, at least by some staffer's standards.” Now show us the “best or nothing” in any of the above statements and hands on review of said Mercedes. A Mercedes interior blows away anything Ford, Tesla or Polestar have. 4 wheel steer which Tesla doesn’t have, a rear drive entry model which Tesla Model S doesn’t have, Mercedes has applied for US authorization for level 3 self driving, which no one else has. The EQE will do just fine, they have EQ-GLE and GLS coming next year, EQB on sale in the USA this year, Maybach EQS and EQ-GLS coming next year, EQ G-class maybe next year. They will have more EV’s than Tesla.2 points

Having sat in both EQS and S-class, the S-class has a better interior, and the dash/cowl on the EQS is rather high, I don't know why it is higher. But keep in mind the S-class interior beats anything outside of Rolls-Royce or Bentley. The EQS still has the best interior of any EV on sale now, and fit and finish quality as noted by the article, which Tesla does not have. I would take the S580 all day long over the EQS580, but I would also take the S580 over any EV. All these EV's are over priced, most $10-20k more than a similar vehicle form the same brand, at least the EQS costs the same as the similar gasoline model.1 point

Very cool news, actual independent study shows replacing an ICE F150 with an F150 Lighting has 64% lower-life cycle emissions. https://electrek.co/2022/03/04/light-duty-evs-have-64-lower-life-cycle-emissions-than-ice-vehicles-ford-study/1 point

I knew about the car, did not know about FWD on that model. Did you not say it started FWD in 1966? ? I was born in 1967, so I missed out on this till much later. I checked locally here, all the dealers are pretty much advertising no second sticker now, MSRP on the car you choose. Seems you can forget about discounts as I am not finding them for any dealers here locally. MSRP is the norm around me, but I did find some Mustangs and Corvettes down south of Tacoma that were being advertised as market adjusted for an extra 5 to 15K over MSRP.1 point

Again, ID is for the electrics. And of course there isn’t a “4” before that because there are ALL NEW CARS and platforms. FFS. It’s just common sense and you are still deflecting from the fact Mercedes has underwhelmed with their “best or nothing” offerings. He has to though. He can’t handle the fact that Benz that not put out the best or nothing with their EQ sedans. Just pure fanboy deflection. I’ve got some bad news for you. Unless you opt for the hyper screen setup and the package that accompanies it, the Benz interiors are garbage too. And what is this “Tech” that only Mercedes has? It sure as hell isn’t design “tech”, that’s for sure.1 point

Who freakin cares? I love you forgot that the named VWs are all ICE cars while this one is EV. Makes sense to have some naming distinction here. And if you took the Benz badge off of the EQS/E, no one would know it was actually a Mercedes, which is the core problem with the "best or nothing". Keep deflecting but it does not change the many negatives here regarding Benz. It's that simple. After one look at the base model variants of both Benz EVs, you would have to high on the pot to believe that nonsense. There it is. The old "they have X coming, and they have Y coming..." line. Irrelevant to what they have out RIGHT NOW. What are you not getting here? All I am saying is that are off to a $h!ty start if the EQS and the EQE are any indications. They can keep that jellybean mess.1 point

And those are just for the much higher priced AMG models. Everything else is as I and Dave listed. My point was that maybe you need to leave out top speed as a criticism of other makes when your own favorite isn't exactly burning it up down the road. Keep polishing that turd though lol. But somehow "EQS" and "EQE" just roll off the tongue. LMAO! Deflection as this is a Benz thread and not a VW one. One can also say that Benz isn't really trying to be competitive either with their bland and homogenous designs for the "future". Actually, a lot of folks have already said that so...1 point

Again, moving the goal post as your EQE FAILS against other auto's and you totally ignore that FACT in your face of how a base EQE stacks up against the Mach-E, Polestar, E-Tron, etc. You have to jump to the performance to try and justify the fact that Mercedes has FAILED to live up to their own marketing tag line of The Best or Nothing! EQE is Nothing in comparison to the competition I guess is what you're saying since you ignore the base comparison and to that basic chrome fork your trying to compare it to a gold-plated fork and saying it is the same since the basic fork form the competition beats your fork.1 point

According to this review, the EQE is limited to a top speed of 100mph even less than you posted and as the review states, a Mach-E, PoleStar 2, E-tron etc. are plenty faster. Mercedes EQE: Everything You Need To Know (insideevs.com) They actually say the failure is in the EQE being a baby twin of the EQS and the little differences on the front will NOT make people notice. It should have been noticeably different. They focus on the AMG versions which they say will be a big improvement, but how many really buy the AMG over a regular Mercedes? End result even they are not impressed with the EQS EQE twins1 point

It’s the first year- ‘66. Engine is one-only: 425 CI. Will find a pic of the powertrain…1 point

But VW doesn’t make a car called the 4, ani I think they have iD 3,5,6, whatever coming. Not an iD Jetta or iD Passat. I don’t like the EQE styling, the E-class looks better. But I don’t see another EV that’s better than EQE or EQS except maybe the Taycan, because Teslas and other EV’s don’t have very good interiors and even Tesla doesn’t have Mercedes’s tech or self drive capabilities.0 points

But all other VW’s have a word name, except maybe GTI, but that is just short for Golf GTI. The iD4 doesn’t match VW’s naming system and it’s worse car than the Kia, Hyundai or Mach E. Just like their other SUVs are no match for the Asian SUVs. Mercedes electric cars are the same naming scheme as gas cars, just with EQ in front.-1 points

Daimler(last year, now called Mercedes-Benz) has 2 car brands, Smart and Mercedes, plus the commercial trucks that would have been in last year's revenue. And Volkswagen has VW, Audi, Seat, Skoda, Porsche, Lamborghini, Bentley, Bugatti, Ducati, Scania and Man. I did find Mercedes Car and Vans revenue for 2021 was $119.8 Billion, and Mercedes-Benz Mobility (the finance and insurance arm) made $30.5 Billion. So $150.3 billion combined, still makes them #5 on that list without Daimler Trucks and if you put Stellantis in there. Tesla since they aren't on there was $53 billion. Heck is Mercedes has a strong year they might beat Ford. And I don't expect their 1 car brand to out-revenue the 14 combined brands over at Stellantis or VW.-1 points

The EQE53 does 149 mph, 155 mph on the AMG EQS. So the performance is there, both those cars have 0-60's in the 3's and both are "53" models, which means there must be a "63" model coming with more. Not impressed with the iD4, bad name, bad car. And the Tiguan and Taos aren't that competitive either, VW's whole lineup isn't competitive with rivals outside of the GTI, which has so few rivals. Compare an Atlas to a Highlander or Telluride, that's a joke, Tiguan vs Rav4 or CR-V, not even close.-2 points
