  1. Palos Verdes should make the cut--simply some of the most beautiful landscape in the region, even though it's mostly just suburban, residential homes. Portuguese Bend, part of the PV peninsula, is the fastest moving land in the world, a continuous slumping landslide since 1956. That portion of PV Dr. S. is undergoing near-constant roadwork. Hollywood Riviera is another good area--subdistrict of Redondo Beach, the signs call it "Riviera Village," but it's where the Hollywood elite used to have a lot of beach houses, like back in the 1920s through the 1940s. Can't forget LA's Chinatown--so famous, and the first master-planned "Chinatown" in the world. The district was originally designed by a Hollywood set designer in the late 1930s, and it shows. Too cool at night. The Valley...San Fernando Valley. Yes, it's suburbia, but you have to see Roscoe and Ventura Blvds. for yourself. Mulholland Drive snakes through the Santa Monica Mountains bordering The Valley. Griffith Observatory needs to be on the list. Huntington Beach, CA--aka Surf City USA. And Beverly Hills is the ultimate tourist destination, though I personally don't think it's all that special. I have to ask...what about Indianapolis is really worth seeing? There's maybe enough to do to occupy a weekend, but that's about it.
  2. Can't agree. When people put a lot of money and time into their homes, they have a strong financial investment in them. If someone else starts interfering with that equity in a negative way, and there is a law on the books, they have every right to protect their long-term investment. Frankly, that's pretty tacky for a front yard/side yard display, because of the signs.
  3. Is it in the backyard, a sideyard, or a front yard? If it's a backyard and not visible from the street, I don't see what the big deal is. If it's visible from the street, though, it would have a negative impact on real estate values, so I would have to side with the neighbors on this one.
  4. He said it blows the Lexus out of the water--I really don't think you can ask for more than that. And I didn't think anything was intellectually dishonest--Lexus isn't all fogey cars, and Buick generally has been. Perceptions are different.
  5. The weight and poor power delivery is unacceptable. I don't care how fancy the cabin is--when even sedate Volvo woops your ass in the sprint, you got problems.
  6. Liability waivers? As you said, there are places that do this...GM should get in on that business.
  7. Yes, this FWD vehicle drives poorly. Anyone surprised?
  8. I'm an American, I like things, and have been accused from time to time of being a bit materialistic...yeah don't wanna give that up.
  9. This is a really good idea--let the enthusiast public push their own machines to the limit at GM's proving grounds on certain days of the week.
  10. No, not really. It came about because of the IRON production/manufacturing of the region.
  11. Agreed...plus it's a Neon.
  12. No, because auto manufacturing is not based in most of "the north"--only in the portion comprising the rustbelt.

  15. I don't give a $h! if Buick rebadges Opels. Opels are not available for sale in the US, so why not get a series of cars whose pricepoints Buick can support and are better than what Buick currently sells? I don't see the issue, honestly. Same reason I don't mind--and actually welcome--Mercury selling the Euro Fords--Ford brand cannot support the imported pricepoints, yet Mercury could given its "premium Ford" marketing/brand positioning. They too will be better-differentiated (from Ford brand) and likely better products than what Mercury currently sells.
  16. In California, the intersection must be posted as "Photo Enforced," the signal and the intersection must be owned by the same government entitiy (i.e. if a city has an intersection, but the signal is maintained by Caltrans because of a freeway ramp...can't photo enforce), the violations must be reviewed by a member of law enforcement for verification, the outside vendor cannot receive payment per ticket issued, and the state courts have ruled that these cannot be used for blatant revenue generation. There was a case in Ventura where one light had the MINIMUM yellow light phasing required by law and was photo enforced...yet even though "legal" that yellow phasing was the shortest in the area, on that stretch of road, etc., and the court ruled that it was clearly a revenue generating signal. I really appreciate that in CA the ticket is tied to the driver and not the car...most other states the vehicle owner gets the ticket regardless of who was driving it and the owner then must try to get the money back from whoever actually committed the violation. In CA, the onus is on the state to find the guilty driver. That's the way it should be, everywhere IMO.
  17. That's illegal in California.
  18. Well, was this in CA, or elsewhere? California is unique in red light running being against the driver, versus against the vehicle. As such, multiple photos are required to sufficiently prove that someone was actually running a light. Every red light violation photographed is reviewed by a law enforcement official to verify that a violation occurred before it is mailed out. If you weren't moving, you should be fine.
  19. I LIKE THAT IDEA!! Send it to Maximum Bob...Photo enforcement Buick commercial LOL
  20. Yes, if you are ahead of the sensor under the stop bar, it can be triggered. In CA, all of these photos are reviewed by a law enforcement agent before tickets are sent out. They also need a photo of your front license plate and your face. If you obstruct your face in the photo, you cannot be charged. If you do not have a front plate, you cannot be charged. Some intersections use photography, while others use video. Good luck.
  21. Gotta disagree, Satty. Auroras will be highly sought-after classics. They also do not use the Northstar; the Aurora V8 was exclusive to Oldsmobile, though based on the Northstar.
  22. Drew, I PM'd you a couple days ago.
