  1. Id say, people started travelling long distances AFTER WW2 when the American highway system got on its way, the economy booming at the same time because of the spoils of winning the war yada yada yada. At the same time, gas stations opened up along the highways and byways and in the suburbs where the GIs bought their new homes starting the boomer generation... The drive-in movie theatres and diners where the automobile hung around also had gasoline stations by their side. So...where we want to complain about EV charging stations and the lack-thereof, it took 50 years for the gasoline infrastructure to come to be AFTER the genesis of the automobile. Its really NOT about it (EV charging system) being a fledging and it being compromised. Its MORE to do about it being a SLOW HOME SYSTEM There is NO reason for it to be built THAT slow. There are POLITICAL and BIG OIL push back LIES for THIS EV charging system that is being built THAT slow. Especially in a time when people depend on their autos daily as you put it. These LIES that some POLITICAL and BIG OIL clowns have been spewing have allowed this disconnect. YES...its a fledgling entity. But I wanna know why, a SINGLE business man (Elon Musk and Tesla) has opened up MORE charging stations than an entire COUNTRY FULL of BUSINESS opportunities? And this SINGLE business man has been doing this for a DECADE already while other business entities are sitting on their asses and just give us EXCUSES as to why EVs will NEVER work...
  2. When an argument like THIS one presents itself and is EXPLAINED EXACTLY like that, there is NO way that I can not agree with it!!!
  3. ah.... I must have misunderstood.
  4. Who/what? Jimmy Carter? Sure! Malaise era shorts and god awful socks and shoes Nice custom touches... Black tuxedo with a bow tie and his loving, beautiful bride by his side.
  5. AWD will come later. It dont matter. You want AWD, you'll have to wait. It will come. No problems there. Unless you wanna make it into a problem. But it is a non-issue, really. Second part. Not the GM way. That is kinda more like the Porsche way. And there is NOTHING wrong with that as THAT kinda way brings in the money. TONS of it. And seeing that strategy will be on a Cadillac...NOT a Chevrolet. It really is not a big deal, but a SMART move. Cadillac shouldnt be in bargaining selling mode. Cadillac, while producing high quality, should also be charging high prices. And if it means by charging an arm and a leg for certain little extra things, then so be it! Its the Porsche luxury market way...
  6. Just to say that Im not really a Miata type of guy...just like Im not really a Corvette or Porsche or Ferrari type guy either. I DO love my muscle cars of all sizes. Fullsize, ESPECIALLY mid-size and thirdly, the pony cars. But THAT does NOT mean I also do the straight line thing. I dont. I do the cruising thing. But I DO love the punching the throttle to get the INSTANT V8 torque acceleration and the grunt of that American muscle V8 sound! My favorite Miata, however, would be THIS one Mostly for cruising. Open air cruising. LOVE that scorpion! She got that scorpion on her neck as a tattoo! ? I dont know how Id wanna die? By her. She is probably a black widow type chick, but oh boy the fun! Or by my wife finding out Im crushing real hard ride about now...
  7. ^^^ depending what she got under the hood and yeah, if she could fly, she a sports car! Im willing to bet that your Buick could whip that little Miata's a$$ in a straight line any length. 1/8, 1/4 and the full mile. It wont matter to your Buick. However...to all that diss that little Miata, the Miata AINT about that. It IS about the enthusiastic driving. ALL driving. NOT just the straight line driving. Its about hitting the high revs, getting in and out of the corners, using ALL of the horsepower and balancing the car neatly going to and leaving the curves... When in the straight line, it AINT about leaving two strips of rubber and smoke behind you, its about cornering speed, USEABLE exit speed and then punching it and revving it high and unto the next corner... THIS is what little Miatas are all about. If we are truly car enthusiasts, then we all, hopefully, understand, that there are many types of enthusiast cars that do many kinds of and specializing in many types of enthusiast types of things.
  8. LOL Im an only child...I LOVE to hear stories like that. I have ALWAYS been OK without having any siblings. Only two times in my life I think that it sucked that I didnt have any brothers and sisters. 1. When my parents passed away. 2. NOW! I love my wife and my wife loves me. I LOVE my kids. BUT...sometimes, you just need a brother or sister to vent certain things about life that a wife or kids need not listen to... I do vent to my wife about those things, we are very close...but a wife is not a sibling... My wife, and certainly not my kids, need NOT listen to my extremely filthy mouth or deranged ideas floating in my head that sometimes NEED to get out. A sibling will ALWAYS understand where you are coming from... A wife, (not mine anyway...at least not now and after 18 years of marriage, but you never know) might question her marriage to you...
  9. 215 miles versus 375. 4 hour drive versus 6... Yeah...Rhode Island is not quite at both of our mid-point. I falsely thought that Montreal might have been closer to Rhode Island than that...(or NJ being farther from Rhode Island than what it really is...)
  10. How far is Rhode Island from you? Because from me, Im only 600 KM away. About a 6 hour drive. (I googled) Could I be not that much further from your truck at this point in time than you are?
  11. I have found myself looking at Land Rover/Range Rover SUVs from the past few years. What I found is that the Lyriq is emulating these rooflines. Which I like very much for the Lyriq I find this Range Rover to be quite elegant. From this vantage point. This look would not work for a Cadillac. It has to be more arrogant. Which I find the Lyriq's front looks do a good job of doing. But the squarish good looks, the strong aggressive straight lines dont jive with the rounded back side And while Ill agree that the taillights are unique, they also dont jive with the rest of the package. The RR Velar also has a rounded rear The Lyriq's taillights would work better on the RR. The rounded rear also works for the Velar as the Velar, and all Range Rovers and some Land Rovers have a rounded front end... I like the, LOVE the fact that the Lyriq has a strong, tall stance. Its aggressive. That strong presence starts at the front, but as we roll towards the rear, the Lyriq loses that arrogance that makes Cadillac a Cadillac, and starts to be apologetic for the way it behaves in the front. I wish THAT arrogance carried its way towards the back too. Did it need to be a rounded hatchback? Did it need to be cut short like that in the rear. Why couldnt it have a slightly longer rear over hang. I know short overhangs are all the rage. In some circumstances, short overhangs lose the aggressive look that some vehicles need to have. The offroaders NEED short overhangs...for offroadness and for crawling rocks, but the aggressive fenders and bulked up fender wells make up for the short overhangs for the aggressiveness... Maybe an overhang like the Hummer's pick-up rear would please me for the Lyriq. As per Mercedes. Not as per real life...
  12. Apparently, so does this Pepsi can! Its be-uooou-tefull!
  13. NOW I know why I dont like it the way the others do! The bolded part is what I agree with you. And Im glad that there is another who also feels the way I do. Even DeLorenzo praises it in his last entry of Auto rants. Well...he praises it and the Audi E-Tron, Lucid Air and Genesis X just to lambaste Mercedes' EV styling direction.
  14. ^^^ I guess you have put a down deposit for it? For them to order it and for GM to actually produce it, a deposit was made? yes? And so, a contract was signed? yes? Then I do not comprehend that a dealership could sell a signed contract, down deposited vehicle, one with a VIN already assigned to the future owner to another person who offers a better deal for it. But I just re-read what you posted, Balthy, and the VIN was not assigned to you, yet. Am I correct? You wrote VIN available... But you still gave a down deposit with a pre-sales contract. OK...the more I write, the more Im getting the feels for the situation. A pre-sales contract could be broken... By other side... Ouch! That WOULD suck BIG TIME if they screwed you over that way...
  15. Now, in a completely different direction in genre and in mood I LOVE the music part of this song. The guitar parts and the drums (although subtle) are just... incredible! The vocals are awesome. I just dont like the lyrics.
  16. @balthazar Last 20 years? Im gonna stay with Cadillac the front end of the Ciel has not aged well IMO. But the rest is a Cadillac masterpiece. Even as far to say that its a modern masterpiece. Too bad Cadillac never produced these. CUV/SUV styling? Well...nothing earthshattering could ever be achieved with CUVs/SUVs. Nothing I said is controversial. Its JUST okay. It may be world's better looking than any CUV/SUV from Mercedes, Rolls, Bentley. But that aint saying much when the Lyriq is bordering on snoozey. It looks like it has a commanding height AND stance. But ultimately, Im not impressed. The stance might have that commanding announcement that "you have arrived", the overall look to it almost apologizes that you have arrived. The HUMMER, on the other hand...ALSO says you have arrived. It also says PHOQUE YOU when you have arrived. THAT is what is missing with the Lyriq. The "PHOQUE YOU" part. The Hummer is not elegant enough to pass off as a Cadillac. DUH! Its a HUMVEE... Both the Ciel and El Miraj have that GREAT balance of announcing that you have arrived, the "PHOQUE YOU, Im rich AND the elegance of saying Phoque You...
  17. I hear ya loud and clear, Drew! Initially, I refrained from spewing my diatribe because I KNEW it be douchey... But I posted it anyway... I feel like I need to apologize. But I wont. Too many people think Canadians are nice and they apologize all the time. Well. I wont give in to the stereotype! LOL
  18. ^^^ I guess you are right. But I still think its counter productive. If you aint fit to bike ride (too long), than maybe e-assist may work out for you, but what better way to get INTO shape than to NOT use e-assist and use your sheer will power and determination and motivation to use your LEG muscles to POWER YOUR way through and BECOME fit. I dont know. Maybe the slogans: 'Just Do it!' and 'No pain, No gain' are just marketing BS...
  19. Ummm..... The Lyriq the way it looks is just OK in my books. Nothing earth shattering. Which, by it being a Cadillac, kinda fails to impress me. But I guess for it being a model that Cadillac needs to produce many examples of and make money on them, for the masses, Im willing to turn a blind eye to its average looks. I hopes Cadillac has a REAL stunner somewheres down the pipe line that wows. Because THAT is what Cadillac is all about: %1er price tags %1er "phoque you Im rich!" exterior styling
  20. ^^^ I was gonna post exactly what @ykX is sayin'. I refrained because I didnt want to sound too douchey. I was gonna say its counter productive to power a bicycle other than h-powered. Unless of course an E-Bike is used as main transportation as they do in Asian countries and in some European ones too.
  21. Did Jalopnik say that is a new Ford Evos? Cool! ? But...did Jalopnik say that FoMoCo called THAT a sedan? (or is that what Jalopnik is calling it?) So...are we NOW gonna be calling these types of vehicles sedans? NOT cool!!! ?
