Chevrolet News:2018 Chevrolet Traverse To Begin At $30,875
regfootball replied to William Maley's topic in Chevrolet
I might agree with that just having driven the v6 (thinking fwd turbo 4 vs. AWD 6). And i think the 2.0 in the traverse may be more drivable than the overrated and difficult turbo 4 in the CX-9. I think the v6 will be perceived as smoother though. -
Chevrolet News:2018 Chevrolet Traverse To Begin At $30,875

I drove one! Here's what I thought! 2018 Traverse review https://www.cheersandgears.com/forums/topic/88857-2018-chevrolet-traverse-awd-lt-3lz/ that allows the L model to be the internet attention getter at a super low price with no markup margin. Good luck finding more than a couple hundred of those L models nationwide............ Privacy glass is a huge deal. Non privacy glass in SUV's and vans are baby bakers and also lets everyone within eyesight know immediately you bought the cheapest one available. Any moron should be able to negotiate the price of LS for a couple hundred bucks more than the L. -
my VW reference was primarily towards their late 90's - 000's era when they really did have a quality rap. Since 2010 and such they may have improved quality, but they also downgraded their staples like the Passat and Jetta. VW still offered the GTi and diesels, and the Beetle, but i believe their overall standing really took a hit between the quality issues and the stripping down of the Passat and Jetta.

Cadillac News: Cadillac To Replace Three Sedans With One

2017 CTS dims 196″ L x 72″ W x 57″ H i think 190 inches would cut into cabin space a lot. -
Cadillac News: Cadillac To Replace Three Sedans With One
regfootball replied to William Maley's topic in Cadillac
the so called CT5 better be the CTS as it is sized now. Cadillac can only really move mid size and large sedans in the US. If the Ct5 is smaller than the CTS then Johan has really screwed the pooch. MURICANS love size. Cadillac buyers think the current CTS is small. You can make a CT3 or CT4 if you want, but the CT5 better be current CTS sized. Call me crazy but i for one would love to see the current CTS in a wagon form (yes few would buy it but humor me pls) It is smart to work out the CT6 bugs and then roll out more versions of it and sell it in greater volume going forward. It's not going to get much love until a v8 shows up under the hood, unfortunately. Who can photoshop photomash a current CT6 and a 1980 Seville humpback rear end for me into an image? Methinks the Ct6 has the right proportions to pull off the ultimate retro + new mashup into a sick hatchback with classique caddy look.... I am guessing these delays on getting Cadillac fixed have as much to do with plant scheduling and union contracts / production planning as anything. -
DRIVEN 2018 Chevrolet Traverse AWD LT 3LZ (will verify) No MSRP on the label HIGHS Mini Suburban feel Mini Suburban crossover style Spacious and well laid out interior. Spacious front and second rows, particularly in GIRTH. Cargo space behind third row is more useful than previous version. More space and additional depth below cargo cover. Ridiculously simple dashboard design comes off as elegant and easy to use, using the same bits as all the other newest Chevy's (window switches, gauges, etc.) Sliding door cubby with touchscreen is actually not gimmicky and is a ridiculously useful center storage cubby. Very quiet inside. Very smooth ride and smooth on the road....in a trucky car kind of way. You can have many conversations in this vehicle. AWD system is flexible. You can just leave it in FWD and it has other modes to help in snow, etc. Luxurious console and armrests. Genuine improvements to the seating management and access. Tilt forward second row, and second row slides to help third row leg room when need be. Surfaces that look bare and plastic in photos are in fact soft and feel good to the touch in person. Combined with the soft leather it all feels really good. Looking out through the windshield, it's wide and open. Combined with the much lowered dashboard, equates to a way different feel than the previous version. There are no obstructions to seeing the acres and acres of corn ahead. Far more of a useful size than the downsized Acadia. With pretty much all the same bits. Nice steering feel. Suspension goes about its business and is fairly well tuned for overall comfort. Overall, refinement. Particularly compared to the previous and now ancient feeling version. LOWS I think the third row at best is only the size of the previous version. I think it seems as if it is smaller, although i did not climb back there. They say it seats 3 back there but I am skeptical. The only way you get the leg room to be awesome is to slide the middle row forward some. I think the cargo floor is higher, and subsequently the overall cargo space may not be as tall (although i would measure it to verify if that is true or not). Because of the lower dashboard and such, the tilt wheel seems to have limited range. Engine could really benefit from more torque, even if it revs willingly. It's slow to respond, not as evident as it was in the Acadia but I do think the tranny is not programmed to shift aggressively. This allows you to cruise nicely on the highway but it doesn't feel sprite from in town stoplight to stoplight. Some folks may think the interior is sparsely designed or plain. I don't really think so considering the soft touch surfaces, but i can understand that there is not a lot of bling inside. It's not uber chic like the CX-9. Since it shares bits with the other new Chevy's, i think that is great....but i think small Malibu gauges could really stand to be upsized in a large SUV. I saw the cloth interior, and well, it looks ok for cloth but for the price point the look of the cloth is out of place. I saw the ash grey interior in leather as well and the impression is not as good in the lighter color compared to the black (my test had the black interior). Someone let me know if there is a version of this that has athletic handling and ride. I think the trucky car feel is actually spot on for the majority of the segment but after awhile I could see wanting a version of this with more agility. Carpet trimmings in the trunk area, like the Equinox, seems a bit thin and cheap. GMC needs an Acadia XL to go with this right pronto since this makes the regular and new Acadia seem compromised. Three row pricing in general is getting ridiculous. To get leather plus AWD here, the pricing indeed starts to get kinda crazy. SUMMARY. Not a hot rod, and not chic, but pretty much a bullseye to what i believe people are expecting here. So let me just call it an A; or maybe an A- with reservations on the tamer powertrain feel. I've tested some of the competitors here and most notable of those are the CX-9 and Atlas. You'd have to drug me to get into a Highlander, and I've yet to drive a Honda Pilot. I'm still familiar with the Explorer. The Traverse just feels newer and more advanced beyond the Explorer. Maybe its due to the Explorer being ancient, but the Traverse doesn't have the tight second row of the Explorer, and it seems to drive and run better. The CX-9 had size issues but for me, the biggest issue with the CX-9 was the 4 cylinder turbo motor. It was billed as THE solution for that vehicle and to me it was not suitable. It wasn't responsive enough, and therefore smooth enough to operate. For my likes, the Traverse would suit me better with the 6 cylinder and the more spacious interior. The Atlas is where I see some inroads into this 3 row market. Car mags like C/D have praised it except for its engine. You can find my test drive of it on this part of the forum as well. In fact i think the car books probably read some of my comments because they are consistent all around. The Atlas and Traverse both provide well for the basics of the segment which is space, seating flexibility, smooth and quiet ride. Things I liked about the Atlas, I like about the Traverse also. I think some folks may think a loaded up Atlas has a nicer interior than the Traverse. For me, i would drive them both again and it would mostly be a tossup but the nicer touchscreen and available 4g would probably kick it over the top for me for the Traverse. So the Traverse is majorly improved, and should be right in the thick of things in terms of competitiveness. Well done GM. Will probably need to take a new Acadia out again for a spin, i might have been slightly harsh on it last time.

2014 Cadillac CTS 2.0t AWD Luxury ( Used Car Review)

i do see your point. i think though the 3.6 should be replaced with like a 2.7 or 3.0t v6 smoothness plus turbo lunge. -

Tesla sells because they are rich guy toys and tech toys. Until we find out if they can actually make cars in volume with average quality and deliver on time and at price, tesla is teetering on failure. My feeling is GM is laying in the weeds on EV's. They realize they could assault the market with EV's and no matter what they do they will get battered in the press because of Tesla. Real truth is if GM set their mind to it they could own the EV world with a few product releases. It is probably true as well that making and supplying batteries that the supply chain needs to ramp up to keep quality at a high level. There is still a place for diesels in the market for the next 15 years etc. at a minimum.

How about selling to people who don't want to lower their standards and buy a vW ?

Great write up. The first 'ever' Cruze diesel was a good car but had lots of teething issues mechanically here in the US. But it ushered in the awareness for this version. I'd be very interested in a Cruze diesel and I wish the regal or Malibu had a diesel option. The gas models are being heavily discounted right now so it makes the diesel price tough to consider but at the same time I think the msrp's are ok. I'd recommend to anyone and this may finally give GM diesel car cred in the us. Lots of people drive long distances to work and there is a market for high mpg high mile cars.

GM is as bad as any for what you just described. Cx-5 drive decently when I tested one long time ago but the Mazda power trains are always lame to me. They redid some of the cx-5 now and the interior is nicer but still no amazing engines. I think Tiguan is disappointing because we always set ourselves up to think vw's may drive better. I think they had a huge chance here but probably went 'the safe route'
-
Like cheers and gears? i can agree in principle with what you speak of here. I think in the case of this rig the Pacifica though, it seems what I have read on that forum site about both the gas model and hybrid model (and the hybrid issue being repeated on other more generic sites ) having some very concerning issues, well, concerns me. I find a lot of the stories in the case of the Pacifica to be believable because they seem the same and I doubt that many people collude to defame a mfr like that.
-
Ugh! You beat me to the first one! I was hunting these down the last few weeks! disappointing that the power train sucks! I thought the last Tiguan was a bad drive. Was hoping with the big new size the power train would be good!! Guess not. Size and bonus third row with 2.0t at a low price were the draw here. For example I considered this vs a new equinox for someone like my mom. But maybe in this case the base ford edges are getting cheaper and cheaper and sans third row might be a better buy if the mpg sucks on the small Tiguan. Vw just never gets 100% of it right at one time. I really disliked the last Tiguan so I guess even if it's greatly improved, that is a good thing. Side note. Car and driver had an equinox 2.0 test and they actually complimented the power train. Maybe that's the rav replacement ? Or what about a 2.0 atlas?

Jeep News: Why is Jeep Not Doing So Hot In Sales?
regfootball replied to William Maley's topic in Jeep
Jeep really does miss out on the three row business. This is essentially the lucrative family sedan market of the olden days. Old compass was a fleet whore so less to fleets makes sense. Maybe Chrysler quality is catching up with them and word is getting around. -

V sports problem market wise is it's RWD only. V sport should have been made available with AWD -

It's a little wider than the Acadia also I think
-
I didn't get inside of it. But the interior look and design and plastics are in line with equinox Malibu and Cruze. I.e. Not flashy but not old days cheap glossy GM plastic. Overall the vehicle looks like a stretched and pulled Acadia. Which it is. I think it's a better size than the Acadia. The back seat 'looks' tighter than the previous traverse but the cargo area behind the third row looks longer. Looks like maybe there is less volume / height in the cargo area.

Buick News: 2018 Buick Regal GS Shows Up With 310 Horsepower
regfootball replied to William Maley's topic in Buick
it should be noted that the v6 in the GS, even if it is non turbo, is the newly updated v6 that the Cadillacs first got a year ago. So the comment was made its ten years old, but actually it is the newest design and manufacture of the 3.6. -
Volt should have become Malibu sized. They can do that by changing the Malibu hybrid to plug in and problem solved. Maybe make it a Malibu hatch with plug in.

i've been tracking the response to the Pachy on the pacfica forums, and there has been a lot of interest in the Pacifica hybrid. The frustration right now is part of the electrics of the drive system are problematic so very very few actually hit market and Chrysler stopped sale and has a recall. Its still fuzzy on when the availability for the 2018's will happen. So, there is real interest in the Pacfica hybrid and its got bugs out of the gate that Chrysler is trying to address as fast as they can in addition to the various bugs and problems with the regular gas models. The ones who have the PacHy absolutely loved it when they could use it and specifically the hybrid availability was what drew them in (they may have otherwise bought a Honda etc.) if i thought i could afford it, and was brazen enough to deal with quality issues I would absoutely consider one to replace our T&C soon.
