Alternative Fuels & Propulsion RANDOM
balthazar replied to G. David Felt's topic in Electric Vehicles and Alternative Fuels
I could see a case made for an EV bus costing -say- $100K vs. $70K. A fiscally reasonable & workable cost bump. But $250K? Why not make it $500K or an even 1 million each, since money is obviously of no concern? And to toss out "it saves on fuel costs" hoping no one with 2 brain cells to rub together will do anything other than smile & nod along is repulsive. At least be honest about it. -
Alternative Fuels & Propulsion RANDOM

The tremendous purchase cost will never be made up over the mandated finite life of a school bus. There is no cost savings. -
Its much more about corporate ability / efficiency than it is about plant physical capacity. We can’t talk about Rivian’s production rate like it’s GM or [any other] established OEM.

$4.2 M being 70% of 17 buses equates to them each costing $247,000!! For what normally costs $65,000-75,000. Unsustainable. A quarter million dollar tin box that only sees 8000 miles per year. Insanity. -
$46K??? Oof!

Toyota News: Toyota Investing $391 Million into San Antonio Truck Plant
balthazar replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Toyota
Truck buyers are a LOT more knowledgeable, demanding, discerning & loyal than disposable / rental class sedan buyers, most of whom are still motivated by outdated reliability reports from 15 years ago. And no- the 'platform' (frame, actually) is not the problem.- 15 replies

I openly cheer anachronisms. I could only hope this picture was taken in like 1980 (I have no idea but probably in the 1940s).

Which is which in the above pics (A or C)? Neither looks to be 'above' the other...

GM News: UAW to Strike General Motors Tonight

I read a bunch of UAW worker comments elsewhere online. In addition to the usual list of; job guarantees, safety in the workplace (not there yet after 80 years of union efforts???????????), and healthcare [the national average for worker contribution to HC is 28%, GM proposed UAW workers paying 15%] ...the VAST majority of comments solely mentioned how much Mary Barra made and how much GM made. This is always the root of the OEM / UAW head butting.- 44 replies

I don't think the 6.2 is all that deficient (460 vs 510); people aren't racing these off-road stock and many mod them anyway. Does the highest HP in every niche segment outsell all others? This is a dedicated off-road package for GM buyers. And that’s a good thing. -
100% true.

I have Montgomery listed, 2001 Sunset, but no dealership pic yet. This Safari sold for $36K this year- came from Montgomery: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1973-pontiac-grand-safari-2/

I don't have an answer to that one, but I suspect that yes; it was uncommon relative to today.
