  1. Half way to 108!!
  2. Electric Studebaker rollback ~
  3. Like how Daimler folded the failed maybach brand back into mercedes, not even as a model but merely a trim. IF GM focuses more on trucks/SUVs/CUVs, a 'Hummer' rebirth in the Wrangler segment would do well, I think.
  4. And thousands and thousands of consumers buy those models over the s-class. If Daimler is convinced electric is the future & has promised to build their entire catalog as EVs, they should start with the flagship sedan. They've already lost 9 years to Tesla as it is. It's a concept- platform is of no consequence here. But clearly calling it the 'EQS' implies the future for the model. You know; the mercedes definition of 'the future', which never seems to get here. Concept after concept after concept, all sent to the warehouse. But we all know this...
  5. Duesenberg wasn't simply the greatest American car, it was the greatest car, period.
  6. a 'cheaper/base model S-class?????? Why? It's not 'best or less than best', is it?
  7. Optional?? Should be standard. But Daimler prefers to protect their profit margin instead, so; late to the party.
  8. If MB wanted to put its best foot forward & try to challenge Tesla, they should make the next S an EV only, with 400+ range and recharging in 15 mins. And use the concept interior. They are WAY behind! But they wont bring out any of that.
  9. The last 2 electric dehumidifiers I had were recalled due to fire risks. ?
  10. Wasnt it a functional concept; or was it put into production?
  11. Telling that theres no head-on front shot. BMW has no stylistic rudder. The basic shape is good here, but the grille/front fascia and whatever it's giving birth to out its rear needs an overhaul. Doesn't really matter; another concept soon to be tarped in the warehouse, forever.
  12. Daimler builds all these concepts but never puts them into production. This must’ve been approved before the massive budget cut.
  13. How often to you think principles of commerce & economics are reinvented?
  14. True, but the recession didn't hit until ‘58. And while things improved for ‘59-60, Buick still went lower than ‘57 in those 2 years. Point was: “a wide range of factors” contributes to business health. Looking at a single business as support for a national health is disingenuous, even if that singular example supports the national trend.
  15. ^ A number of manufacturers have seen contractions, not their state. Business is cyclical for a wide range of reasons, it has always been this way. Buick sold 737K in '55 and 404K in '57. In the same period, Plymouth sold 401K and 762K.

  17. 1. That's not "in front" of the A-Pillar. 2. Rolls Royce uses that same treatment.
  18. Generous government subsidies have been behind China taking the lion’s share of global electric vehicle sales in recent years — but now they’re being called to question and face another scandal. While the country saw its “new energy vehicle” sales spike 79 percent last year and its domination of global sales confirmed, that came from government-funded subsidies allowing automakers to offset their manufacturing costs and consumers to pay affordable, competitive purchase prices for electric vehicles (EVs). “The consequence of the subsidy-fueled growth is that it also triggered excess production capacity, because everyone wants to benefit from government support,” said Claudia Liu, the regional compliance officer for Daimler Greater China. Liu also commented that some unnamed companies have abused the subsidies, by reallocating funds earmarked for EV production. https://finance.yahoo.com/news/china-faces-another-ev-subsidy-170000913.html
  19. Looks like a next generation Golf. Which it is. VW has been milking the same 2-box compact shape for 45 years now.
  20. Mercedes; just HANDING the EV luxury segment to Tesla on a gilded platter.
  21. Valve placement in a true hemi head (parallel or perpendicular) may not be that crucial for airflow/combustion, but the perpendicular placement was to accommodate the splayed valve stems, making the old hemi heads incredibly wide. They would not have fit set parallel to the crank. A similar bridge arrangement could also work with 2 pushrods and 4 valves, tho the result may become physically cumbersome. It would require something not already engineered (to my knowledge).
  22. Another way around the pushrod/runner territorial fight is canted rockers. Old Chrysler hemis have valves perpendicular to the crank rather than parallel- they used dual rocker shafts & canted rockers. Still only 2-valve of course.
