  1. ^ Awesome. I never got to meet any of my great grandparents, tho both of my sons knew 3 of theirs. My father's father passed in 2016, 6 weeks shy of turning 101. - - - - -
  2. Kudos for tackling unknown territory & coming out on top. At least it wasn't a circa '09 Malibu that requires body panel loosening to accomplish. You can't be serious. Years back, a mechanic friend detailed how saab kept creating different, proprietary fasteners (akin to Torx) on the front suspensions, eliminating shade tree mechanics (in addition to forcing mechanics to buy new tools from them). Neighbor had one of those late 90s maseratis- no way to check the cooling. Any BMWs have a dipstick anymore? 2nd Gen Jeep Libery oil filter cannot be readily seen, so Jeep has a little trough to catch the oil the filter coughs up upon removal. Remote oil filter kits are cheap (I may use one on the B-59 in fact)- any OEM could locate the filter in an easily-reached spot. OEMs can easily engineer vehicles with an eye towards maintenance/service- it's not remotely beyond the same people engineering a computer-controlled 10-spd automatic. But people are lazy and dealers are greedy, and OEMs are willing to comply.
  3. Model S was down 5% last year as it is, 'raising' the price by EIGHTEEN THOUSAND surely will cut into that model's sales quite deeply.
  4. "luxury powertrain" - what does that even mean? :P
  5. If I have this correct, the average starting MSRP for a Tesla next week will be $84,000. So much for "electric cars for the masses". And this dovetails exactly with what I said a month or 2 ago- that even if battery costs fall, those savings will NOT be passed onto consumers, especially once volume rises markedly.
  6. Pontiac sports car proposal ~
  7. The first concept Atlis has no resemblence to Rivian in the least, but I agree the 2nd concept is much more appealing. They could lower the beltline by 1-2 inches. I still say it reminds of the ideal of the Silverado- LOTS of lines up front (even without a grille). It's like their pendulum swung the full arch the other way.
  8. Take it from the spouse of an insider- BoA is too stupid to be evil.
  9. Hot on the heels of the veiled news that Teslas are going to effectively be $3625 more expensive by the end of 2019 (with the ratcheting down of the EV tax credit once a manufacturer hits 200K units sold), Tesla announced today that they are discontinuing the 'entry level' 75 kw Model S and Model S by this Sunday night. That's a 72 hour notice. What this means --in the case of the Model S for example-- is that the future buyer of that Tesla is staring at an $18,000 price increase.
  10. Dow Jones rose 2300 pts since December 26th. That's a pretty definite pull back from a near bear market, but 1 month's stock market performance does not make a recession anyway.
  11. I don't agree that such an approach is necessarily logical. There are tremendous differences within the animal kingdom on Earth (EX; domestic house cat / scorpion). Further, there have been/continue to be groups of humans who have never been conquerors. Looking forward to the analysis article detailing the stock market DJ rise of 2300 pts since 12/26.
  12. ^ What was the ATP price in '18 vs. '19 (for it to be a market-depressing factor)?
  13. Are you suuuuuuuure you didn't mean to type 'souless, generic, FWD, appliance garbage'?
  14. • supra is 17 years gone now : all it's buyers are -if toyota is lucky enough to somehow have retained them- profiling in avalons now. And it returns (and I'll have to believe the hipshot 'too little too late' comment applies) on the cusp of The Great Disengagement of Driving. Or will it be a careening, drifting steering wheel-less-only ride?? • A handful of people 'cult following' an obscure 'hot' corolla does not make the corolla 'hot'. 350K per year of kick-to-the-curb rental vanillas. It's literally the LCD of motordom. I believe I've 'astral projection driven' right thru hundreds in my time.
  15. ^ No- there's bland/generic/homogenized, which is the middle 85% of cars.
  16. What if they were benevolent?
  17. yeeeech- brutal looking.
  18. The problem right off the bat is the name- 'corolla'. It makes vanilla taste like chocolate- it's about the worst nameplate baggage one could chose to try and make something 'hot'.
  19. They think screen brightness is the distraction factor?? Have no desire for something like this. I wish folk luck forking over $50-60 grand for one of these (IF it ever gets built and IF it ever gets approval to sell here. Oh, and only IF it partners 50/50 with an American company to do so. :D )
