  1. I'm puzzled, yet not displeased. Mostly puzzled.
  2. But they couldn't give them away. A more expensive variant of the same formula is going to sell in double digits/month. What's the pay-off?
  3. ^ Because obviously the 6 series grand coupe is setting the charts on fire. - - - - -
  4. I'm bored by audi - they never takes any chances in appearance. Do not like the choice of breaking the grille bar for whatever sensors are in the grille. There's far too much gobblygook showing in the grille - should've taken the time to finish that off better. And throw some fogs into those yawning expanses of black mesh in the lower corners. One more; read elsewhere that those 'exhausts' are fake. With the A7/A8 pretty much dead, this is their 'face time' sedan; put the A8 interior in this and it might jump a few spots on the sales chart.
  5. My God; the depreciation. It's out of warranty; it might as well be made out of paper-mache.
  6. See, I've been ignorant of the Volt's circumstances. I knew it was somewhat unique among hybrids, but really never bothered to investigate how. Just read up on it. I don't think a plug-in is going to be feasible for my son- I've never seen any charging parking slots in the small, scattered lots at his college- definitely not in the 2 lots right near the dorm he's in currently. Add to that the school doesn't guarantee housing for seniors, so next year is an unknown. Volt is out.
  7. • They were reliable 10 years ago and earlier, but engineering quality has gone out the window since. You're unaware of the 50 million recalled since 2005? FIFTYMILLION. I believe Buick has ranked higher than toyota for many years now. • Veranos I was check were few years newer than 2013.
  8. Same reason a sports car brand is making SUVs?
  9. • Toyotas are too hugely unreliable- 50 million + reasons there not to buy. • Veranos near me with really low miles are $15K, not $10. • Fiats are crap, yes, but at least Chrysler/Dodge is above that level of wretchedness. Still, I'd probably pass on the 200. • Will look into the Volt idea.
  10. ^ It really is absolutely nothing special whatsoever. Could be anyone of a dozen, hugely cheaper SUVs. I'm sorry, some brands should just not bother with SUVs. - - - - - At some sort of mechanics business saw the nose of a circa '70 Challenger, and right next to it was a full-size '66 Chevy with a blower & carbs stacked pretty damned near roof-high coming out the hood-less engine bay.
  11. Yah- that's cause it's a Trans Am. Trans Am Worldwide debuted it just recently, I understand it's going into production (no price yet). Video I saw sure depicted it as VERY high quality.
  12. In the '60s- yes. Sometimes with optional, on-off-able reverb. M '64 GP has the rear seat speaker (behind a silver grille). All mercedes did when trying to bring their woefully- spartan interiors up to modern American standard in the 1980s was comb past American interiors for features, amenities and treatments.
  13. Saw this elsewhere, did not fact check it. Is it an update to the situation? "A German court has ruled that diesel cars produced before September 2015 can be banned from the road. Some articles state the bans could start in September. European countries for years have advocated for diesel cars because they use less fuel, but now they are going the other direction back to gasoline cars. Man, it would suck to have a three year old car and now you have to go buy a different car plus your three year old car is worthless. How many cars are going to go back to the bank because owners quit paying on them?" A outright ban in months would make (100s of thousands?) of vehicles worth pennies overnight. An incredible hardship on the private owner...
  14. Silver speaker cover is a mercedes idea'?? EVERYTHING had silver speaker covers at one point. Random spin of the Google wheel : 1960 Bonneville ~ 4-door coupe : as usual, Cadillac was there first ~ floating screen : 1955 Ford Thunderbird ~
  15. Someone buy me this, plz.
  16. Why did it need to be fixed in the first place? What happened to 'the best or nothing'? Only OEMs using the 'tacked on' screens did so to cut costs. Aaanndd it looks exactly like that.
  17. GLA curently HAS plastic buttons ALL OVER the interior...
  18. I could go for a '69 GP SJ 428HO car, & silver is nice.
  19. Model X is rated at 237-289 miles. Point is the lil trailer cut into that so heavily that 2 trips of 213 & 217 miles still required 5 and a half hours of charging. At Tesla Superchargers, per the article pics. This has been my point all along; sure the tech will probably get better. IC has gotten better & better over time, too. But Toshiba doesn't build vehicles and right now- it's just not even a lateral to IC. Get comparable tech in place, then change your catalog over to EV. It just seems that OEMs are doing the inverse of that. Comparisons to 1900 are not really valid; EV, steam & IC were all brand new and all had extreme compromises to deal with- there was no huge disparity in day-to-day life between the different motive systems then.
  20. So here's an interesting article, in light of the rising hype over possibly "EV all the trucks!!' https://www.edmunds.com/tesla/model-x/2016/long-term-road-test/2016-tesla-model-x-tow-test-recap.html It's a worth-while, real-world read, and casts some real doubt on the viability of EV haul vehicles. Tester took a Model X, which has a tow rating about 4980 lbs, towing a teeny trailer around California for a 4-day road trip. Near 5000 lbs tow rating is pretty good in all actuality- that will handle most homeowner needs short of large boat or car-hauling. And the impression of the Model X's towing by the tester was very positive, performance-wise: "Right away, the Sepulveda Pass demonstrated what I love about towing with an electric vehicle. Many of the difficulties associated with climbing a grade simply disappear. A direct-drive electric motor never shifts; the revs have no need to climb. The Model X can generate so much power and torque that it never strains, never gets any louder. And the Tesla's cruise control is so unfailingly precise that your chosen speed never waivers even a half a mile per hour. Uphill, level ground — even downhill — it all feels exactly the same." Everything up to now sounds great, right? But the eyeopener for both the tester and the average consumer at large considering an EV (especially in the guise of a work/tow vehicle) is how an EV greatly alters travel times. This is the very thing EV OEMs MUST address to gain widespread market penetration. Day One Summary: Drive distance: 217 miles Total time: 8 hours, 9 minutes (5 hours, 2 minutes driving; 3 hours, 7 minutes charging) Day Two Summary: Drive distance: 308 miles Total time: 11 hours, 48 minutes (8 hours, 4 minutes driving, 3 hours, 44 minutes charging) Day Three Summary: Drive distance: 283 miles Total time: 9 hours 36 minutes (6 hours, 47 minutes driving; 2 hours, 49 minutes charging) Day Four Summary: Drive distance: 213 miles Total time: 7 hours, 5 minutes (4 hours, 48 minutes driving; 2 hours, 17 minutes charging) That a 220-mile trip should take 8 hours to complete is just not acceptable for the vast, vast majority of attention-deficit, instant-gratification, hurry-hurry consumers out there. I've done that leg (220 miles : Central NJ to upstate Hudson Valley NY and back) in 3.5 hours in a internal combustion Jeep- no refueling stops. I'm going to stick with taking 5 minutes to fuel versus adding 4.5 hours to a 3.5 hour trip anyday. EVs have a LONG way to go to get any meaningful market penetration.
  21. Thanks to Ocnblu for bringing this to my attention. Super Duty 455, 1000HP.
  22. OK, have some guidelines in this pursuit. Again, this is for my one son to have about 110 miles from me, in upstate NY. • Would like to stay under $10K. • Cruze-size or smaller. This one is from the wife, I don't see an issue going up one notch, esp since the size classes are so damned close to each other. Have looked online at some local pre-owned stuff, nothing so far has blown my socks off.
  23. The Maserati SUV stretched into a 40-ft limousine.
  24. OK, bitches. This is the official calendar mark - work on the B-59 resumed today, 02-24-18. Handed off the front Al-Fin drums to my buddy to clean up. They were turned years ago, he's going to tend to some brake surface cleanup, paint the hubs, do a tiny bit of modification to allow for aftermarket rims, and clean out the bearing areas. Spring is around the corner, and it's time to get this road whale (on it's way to) motorvating. - - - - - EDIT : 24 hr turnaround, nicely cleaned up. Will clear coat when the weather is warmer. 12" Al-fin (finned aluminum) with iron liners, getting Kevlar shoes when installed.
