  1. The interiors were horrendous in this era. Couple that with the innovation of plastic cladding and; yikes.
  2. Nope- it starts a full $15K cheaper- that's a different class. Or at least; many would argue such. I mean... in a world where a 204" car "doesn't compete" with a 206" car...
  3. Size-wise it lines up perfectly with another car that doesn't compete with the S-class; the BMW 7-series : 204" vs, 206".
  4. Can you imagine; you're LamboF'inghini and you STILL can't bring a concept to market as is? Look at the schlubmobile on the right- how is this amorphous, generic blob supposed to be the 'ultimate sports CUV'???
  5. In order to match the CT6 with the A6, you have to bump up to the S6, where 2 more cylinders & a full litre more displacement gets you 16 more HP than the 3.0TT CT6. In order to match the CT6 with the e-class, you have to bump up to the V8TT, where 2 more cylinders & 1.6 litres more displacement gets you 2 less HP than the 3.0TT CT6. Cylinder to cylinders & litres to litres, its the Germans that didn't bring a lot of HP to the table (unless you pay and pay and pay).
  6. At a major U.S. highway intersection, saw a old prius, with headlights nearly as yellowed as Velveeta, pulled over onto the busy shoulder, the driver emptying a 1-gal can of gas into the tank.
  7. I will amend & agree with Stew's point- if there's a viable familial engine for your Brand X, use it. If you're hot rodding a Kaiser, perhaps an LS motor is a pretty stout idea. I want to make my B-59 quick, and while it's original 401 would've been up to the task, the trans, driveline & rear were not. But never for one split second was a Chevy engine considered, especially when there was a higher power (stock) BBB 455 readily available.
  8. OHHH- then you're talking about 26 years later.
  9. Didn't Ford offer a V8 TWENTY THREE YEARS before Chevrolet did?
  10. Wow- why is that center right HVA/C vent upside down?? Friday build date? Wait- I see; it's the same vent as on the left, but inverted. I've never seen such an in-your-face cut corner.
  11. Everything else being equal, I would choose a steel bed, but nearly every single working truck out there has a bedliner. I have one, PLUS a bed mat to keep things from sliding. If I had an aluminum bed under that & chose to elbow a steel toolbox off the bedrail, it would never tear the bed thru those 2 layers. As far as the camo'd '19 Silverado 'looking like the other years'- its the Germanaic way : year after year, generation after generation- make 'em look the same. That's a good thing, right?
  12. BMW U.S. sales peaked in 2015, they were down 10% in '16 and are down slightly in '17 from that. Their cars are getting particularly hard hit; down 15% in '16 & 10% so far in '17. Whereas prior to, the reviews for BMW have been consistent, the more recent ones I've read have hit their product in BMW's foundation: steering, braking, etc. While I would give the benefit of doubt to market fluctuation, something else seems to be going on here. They desperately need a new design direction and tighter focus on their 'middle-age spread' of a catalog.
  13. Nope- it's only got 168K on it! Planning some love for it this summer... lil touches, nothing major. I assume the only diesel truck with EPA numbers is the Ram 1500- I believe trucks over what? 9000 GVW? are exempt from EPA estimates?
  14. My diesel truck didn't get EPA MPG numbers, but highway MPG certainly doesn't exceed city MPG by anything close to a 'good margin'... but perhaps DD was specifically talking about cars here.
  15. How's the frequency of MB s-class buyers also snapping up the g-wagon? I'll tell you : abysmal. What Lambo Aventador buyer wants a MUCH heavier, slower and less impactful Lambo SUV with 33% less pistons - just because "it's there"? I don't remotely see it... and I actually like Lamborghinis. These sports car brands are merely whoring out their image to build cash cows and demean their reputations for money. Which, to be truthful, is how successful business's are run. But the market demand is manufacturered and the end product is trading on the consumer good will developed when the brand was far more pure. I still wince when I see a Cayenne, and I see a LOT of them around me.
  16. I called Cadillac, they said they'd build you one in May if you give them a deposit. Want the HQ phone number?
  17. XTS V-Sport adds 100 hp, a CT6 V-Sport should do the same- right about 500 HP. I think that's in line with expectations... but Cadillac hasn't released the V-Sport package for the CT6 yet.
  18. Cadillac 'crams' just as much power into the CT6 already (404 vs. 410) in a much lighter car. Wish granted- go order one.
  19. Model T project vehicle :
  20. Too busy?
  21. Except: trucks. There diesels are embraced & expanding. VW may have put the nail into VW, not diesels.
  22. I didn't call it a brand. And I disagreed with making it a brand.
  23. Batteries today don't last more than 5 years- 7 is a minor miracle anymore. I assume it's the more modern vehicles- they start & run fine then with no warning; the battery is a doorstop. There hasn't been any longevity improvement over the last -say- 50 years in lead-acid automotive batteries. AGM = Absorbant Glass Mat, such as an Optima. I went with a 6V Optima for my '40 after reading relevant antique forums- some were saying they were getting 8 and 10 years out of the battery with the typical infrequent use antiques get (in some cases they were using a battery 'maintainer' tho). I would definitely replace the battery; I would not suspect any other component off the bat: it's age is the prime indicator.
