  1. Today I saw a white 63-64 Caddy ragtop, looked to be pretty straight and clean as we passed each other in opposite directions. Love those years, my folks had a 64 CDV, white of course. The other one was a head-scratcher: it was a new DTS IIRC (the newest sedan, not the STS or CTS), but it was a convertible. Not a fake one, but a real one. How do I know? It had NO TOP! It was the real deal, a four-door convertible. This was near Naperville, IL, FWIW, I can't remember what Caddy dealer is around there, but it had to be a one-off, right? It was a dark color, maybe a deep red. Thoughts?
  2. Any details? Clearly it didn't fall out of the sky, it looks like it skidded off the runway. Thankfully nobody was killed.
  3. Oh that's great- we're all waiting for ours on pins and needles (I've been sitting here all day on this topic hitting Refresh), and you have time to make yourself another one?! Just kidding, bro- I've only been waiting for 8 hours. Seriously, if you need to crop mine or whatever do feel free. I wish I could pull off a gangsta look like yours, tho... TIA!
  4. Don't remember what it's called, but it's a little blue rubbery stick thing that slips into your air vent. It's a ncie enough smell, but I get it because it's blue and matches some of my car's details. A little powerful when it's new and the air is blowing at your face, but it's beats a dangling pine tree. Heh-heh, "Dangling Pine Tree", I have all their albums...
  5. Exactly my thoughts, makes me wonder who is doing the conquering... Very cool pics BV, keep having fun!
  6. Can I still get in? I would be honored... :sign0200:
  7. Great, another bloated, look-alike truck-thing. How many more of these does GM need...? No offense Brian, it's a great scoop and the pics are great too, kudos on the reporting. I'm just not into trucks and I think GM's too focussed on them, the "if some is good, more is better" philosophy.
  8. I'm starting to think this is some sort of psychological experiment...
  9. OK, I just spent 20 minutes trying to get back onto the site with no luck what's the big scoop?!
  10. A couple weeks ago at an IL I-PASS automated toll booth, exiting a major tollway here (I-294 N at River Rd): with no gate that needs to raise after paying the toll, the guy in front of me stops at the tollbooth, despite the fact that (a) there is no "booth" per se, and (b) there are signs telling you not to stop, and © I can see his I-PASS transpnder on his windshield. So what does he do? He takes the thing down, and starts waving it around inside the car like a magic wand, waiting for the indicator light just outside the tollbooth to turn green. When that doesn't work, he sticks it out the window, with more waving. With no result, he (OMG) gets out of the car, a befuddled expression on his face like a Cro-Magnon man getting suited up to fly the Space Shuttle, and proceeds to walk around behind the car, waving the transponder around. I S you not, he did this for about 60 seconds, then got back in his car and started to move- which is precisely when the I-PASS system caught his transponder (he had been about 3 feet too far back) and turned the light green, which is precisely when he stopped again, then took off. Not a cop in sight, either. I keep putting off hooking up my car's photon torpedoes, and I end up needing them at times just like this...
  11. Do it. Yesterday. Those awful chrome headlights are one of the G6's weakest styling points. Off you go!
  12. High mileage is cool... Fare thee well, aged warrior- may flights of Grand Nationals sing thee to thy rest...
  13. Careful what you wish for- the 04 GTO was a 40th anniv car and look how that turned out- or didn't turn out...
  14. Nice, I'm liking those Saabs more and more, but I still wish they made coupes again.
  15. The first time I saw that sunroof I wondered what the long-term noise issues would be. Didn't think to worry about short term. Next up- leaks...??
  16. Ooh, remembered something else: when I worked at EGS Electrical Group in Skokie, IL, a few years ago, there was a sort of walkout by the cleaning staff. Apparently, one night as they went about their business in the basement o fthe building, where the company's lab space was, they starting hearing muffled screams, and- get this- horses. They claimed to hear horses braying and hoof sounds. (Man, I'm getting chills writing this!) They refused to go back to the basement. Unfortunately, I never go to explore the issue, as I was unceremoniously laid off right around then. Freaky!
  17. This is a story my dad told us from his childhood. When he was very young, say, 5, he had a grandmother that he was very close too. When she came to visit, my dad would invariably be playing on the floor of the house. She would just come up behind him, pat him gently on the head, and go on her way. One night she fell ill, and my dad was left at home with a relative while his parents went to the grandmother's bedside. Later that night, my dad was playing on the floor, when (as he would later tell his sitter) he heard a door open, footsteps come up behind him, and felt a gentle pat on the head. Unlike other times, he turned to look for his beloved grandmother, but there was no one there. He became frightened and ran to his sitter and told her what happened. She comforted him as best she could, not knowing what to say. Later still, his parents came home with the sad news- his grandmother had passed away earlier that night. Another dad-related story: my own father died a mere 8 days before my first daughter was born. That week, my very pregnant wife was at the grocery store, when she was approached by an older Hispanic man. He very politely and directly told her, "You're going to have a 10-pound boy." He said little else, and walked away. Later that week, we did indeed have a 10lb baby- that it turned out to be a girl instead of a boy does nothing to change my opinion that the man who told my wife that was, somehow, my father's spirit (my father having also been an older Hispanic man). During our daughter's first several months of life, I would be sitting with her on my lap, or in my arms, and she would suddenly turn and look at something behind me. She would focus all her attention, and smile very sweetly, for 30 seconds or so, sometimes even letting out a little giggle. Again, I know that was my dad, playing with his little grand-daughter- and she loving it.
  18. I agree, people have to be held responsible for their own actions- in this case, parents must (as Fly so graciously and concisely put it) watch their children. It's a terrible thing, sad beyond words, for a child to die in car's rear blind spot or caught in a power window, but there are ways to avoid those things. The rear window lockout on so many newer cars is plenty, just make sure you use it. And make sure your kids aren't hiding/playing near cars- any cars, period. IMO, if they're old enough to be playing near parked cars without supervision, they're old enough to understand that if Mom or Dad catches them playing near cars, they're gonna get whupped. This seems like another case of people wanting the government to save them when their common sense fails.
  19. And how! Seems like his biggest problem wasn't brake fade, it was brain fade...
  20. Naw, not a jerk, just a cool chick with a good sense of humor about such things. If I wore hats I'd tip mine to ya! BTW, at the risk of, oh, I don't know, getting back on topic: how much for that cool go-cart?
  21. LOL!! Don't think so- it appears to be named "thumbsup". Just where is your mind?
  22. Far too cool!! I wonder if you could put a motorcycle engine in there instead... (These new smilies are great, one for every occasion! <--- See?) EDIT- Aw, it's even got the red headlights! GRRRRRRAVE DIGGERRRRRR!!
  23. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/4796264.stm Long story short: the gas pedal gets stuck, the car acelerates to 135mph, driver fries the brakes trying to stop, and the "gears were jammed", preventing him from shifting into neutral. Yeah. Right. Once they check out the car (a 3-series BMW BTW)and find there was nothing wrong, he's got some 'splaining to do.
  24. Cool. My mom has an 02 base Impala, her first new car. Has about 60k on it now, and it's been great. Had a fuel injector replaced under warranty last year, and the hubcaps bec. they were fading. I do all the maintenance on it, and it's been a pleasure. My dad put the factory vent-visors on, and my brother and I added some dark gray rub strips to save the bumpers. It's a beautiful car, much better looking than the new Impala IMHO. My mom loves it, she gets it washed every Sunday. Lots of room inside, very comfortable and spacious. I like the dash a lot, too. And the trunk space- my God, it's HUGE! IIRC it's something like 18cu ft, and it's very wide and deep- heck, you almost have to crawl inside to get stuff from the far end! Excellent! It is a bit underpowered w/ the 3400, but rides great and is very tight and quiet. Feels like it'll last 200k easily.
  25. Well, Camino is "motorin'", that's for sure...
