  1. I got one once that said: "Ka-boom". Naw, it didn't really, but wouldn't it be cool if it had...?
  2. Nice! I like the GP GXP more and more every time I see one, which is rather often, seems like I see one every day. (EDIT- OK, I'm a dope, I forgot I'd already replied here.) Have you seen these tallight covers? http://www.pfyc.com/store/merchant.mv?Scre...gory_Code=04EXT IMHO, they fix the biggest flaw in the car's styling. I saw a white 04+ GP w/ these on and painted body-color, and MAN what a difference! FWIW
  3. P. I. M. P. I. N.' What can I say? Couldn't do that w/ the Pontiac logo... BTW, those pistols seem pretty phallic to me already. (Does anyone else think it's funny that the word "phallic" has the word "lick" quasi-embedded in it? )
  4. Very cool! I wish they had kept the driving lights in the traditional place up front, I'm sure they could have fit the turn signals on the inner corners of the headlight clusters. My only other real gripes w/ this gen GP are the rear end and the body-side rub strip- the way it ends at the front edge of the door makes it look like the wrong fender is on there. Like the fender vent, tho. And after all is said and done, it's a V8 GP, can't argue w/ that! That's a great color, too. Any mods on it yet?
  5. Yep- the Mach 5 is still on her first one, the factory spring. It does make it tricky to raise/lower the rear suspension, tho.
  6. In college I was driving my pimp-tastic red 78 Civic CVCC, and I managed to get another one like it to drive in the winter. It was rusty, yellow, and quite indestructible. Reliable as the sun, and a bit quicker than my red one. I called him "SuperBeater" and drew a Superman-like logo on the front of the hood. I wrote "Nitromethane Fuel Only" on the gas door, and had 2 bumper stickers: "This is NOT an abandoned car" and "DO NOT WASH- This car is undergoing a scientific dirt test" Loved that car, drove it for about 4 winters. Gave it to a junkyard after taking some spare parts off it. To this day I still miss him when winter comes around...
  7. <snif-snif> Wow, thanks everybody! I haven't been online for a couple days, so I just saw this. 'twas a good b-day, too, even if I had to work. I got a giant Darth Vader PEZ dispenser (Mach5GTP = geek), and an XMODS RC car from Radio Shack- the 67 Firebird, o'course! I might pick up some accessories for that bad-boy today, since I'm alone w/ the girl- while the wife's away, the Gus will play! As far as the GTP, she got 2 new rear strut mounts- feels like a new(er) car! Thx again!
  8. I want to see the interior. As I've said before, badge engineering sucks, but it's not an ugly car to start with and if it helps Pontiac downt he road, then I will try to like it. I do have a soft spot on my heart for 5-speed fours...
  9. For me, it's a couple things: -better looks. Most soft tops looks not nearly as good as their respective coupe kin, like wearing a bad toupee. I've discovered that I like the G6 convertible's top-up looks better than the coupe's, in fact. And at highway speeds, most soft tops I see have the top material bulging upward due to air pressure, looking slightly ridiculous. -safety, mine and my stuff's. As someone said, soft tops are just begging to get slashed by some malcontent, and for some it's but a stone's throw from slashing your top to stealing your car. In addition, I have to think a hardtop vert is safer in a rollover, as rare as they might be. Plus, in the G6's case, the rear window is huge compared to most soft tops. -whiz-bang. Yes, I'm a tech geek, and I love the dance the top goes thru as it folds. It just speaks to me. -longevity. While I've never owned a convertible, I've seen some old ones with faded and torn fabric, like my sister's Wrangler. A hard folding top is just easier to maintain, as far as appearance goes. OK, let's discuss!
  10. By way of answering my own question, here's a pic I found on eBay: Very shallow indeed, and the trunk floor appears to slope upward towards the rear. You'll definitely gonna need to pack light, like shorts and T-shirts instead of jeans and jackets. I have to question the need for a roll-up cargo shade- maybe to keep your tiny amount of stuff dry if the top is wet when you fold it? I might be inclined to lose the spare tire and carry an air compressor, Fix-a-Flat, and a AAA membership. FWIW...
  11. STUNNING! That front end design, the grillwork and details, is just gorgeous, really better looking than the Solstice, I think I have to say. Which kills me 'cause I'm a Pontiac guy to the bone. Congrats, and many, many, many happy miles!
  12. Wow, they make diapers that big? ba-dum-ching! Hey-oh! Hey, this thing on...?
  13. The Mach 5 proudly wears almost 241,000 miles, and all but the first 57 are mine. Original engine, too- every moving internal part is still factory original. (Don't get me started on the trans tho. ) Ya gotta drive 'em or they get sad. Do I win?
  14. Beautiful, does it still look like that?
  15. Darn; here's what I was hoping for in this section: --No longer a Chevy Equinox in drag Oh well. Admitedly, there are some good changes in there...
  16. Apparently for the sedan only: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Pontiac-G6-...633465647QQrdZ1 Never saw these before (not that I've been looking), but it looks like a pretty subtle package. Wonder what the rear looks like. Now for a pair of recessed grilles like the new GTO Sport Appearance Package...
  17. Cool Tony, thanks! That's how I figured it would open, kinda crazy to see your roof laying in there. More pics welcome if anyone has them! Can't wait to hit a dealer soon to see one in person. I do still want one, sort of surprisingly. "The Transformers, more than meets the eeeyyyee..."
  18. The chick playing the cello is hot. like Yo-yo Ma! And, God help me it's hard to say this, but I don't hate it. I used to love that song when I was a little kid, it has a lot of memories for me, and he does a decent job I guess. Don't judge me!
  19. I got the new dealer brochure for the G6 vert, and there is no mention of the trunk, other than to say the trunklid is dual-hinged, to open normally for trunk access, and rearward for top stowage. Looking at all the pics I can find, I don't see how the trunk could open "normally"; I just don't see the dual-hingedness, to coin a term. I did see in a Google search that the trunk volume is 5.8cu.ft. top up (for comparison, my GTP's is 15.5), and (eep) 1.8 top down. Pack soft, folks! (I wonder if my car care supplies would fit in 1.8?) Does anyone know anything, have any pics of normal trunk opening, etc.? We all remember the long thread here about the "design flaw", forcing one to raise the top to remove anything from the trunk, but I want to know more. TIA. Pontiac seems none too eager to disclose any useful info re/ trunk space or trunk access. Hmmm... FWIW, if I got one of these cars (see my other G6 thread for the level of self-loathing I'm nursing over that desire), I'd find a pair of nice leather duffels to strap into the back seat when I needed cargo space. EDIT- oops, had the wrong cargo volume in there
  20. I want one. I want a G6 convertible, OK? It’s vanilla-plain-looking, has funny proportions, limited practicality, and dammit I want one. I tried to resist, I was all “It looks like a Toyota Solaaaaara, ewww, no thanks,” but now I want one, and it's getting strong, this desire. I’ve been looking at lots of pics of the G6 vert, and I think I like it’s styling better than the coupe, which looks like a hatchback. (I will have to see one in person tho.) Plus there’s the whole whiz-bang factor in the folding hard top, which just grabs my inner (and outer) engineering geek by the short-sleeved collared shirt and screams, “LOOK AT ME!! I TRANSFORM!!!” (I’ll need an Autobot symbol for the hood, a big one like the old Firebird hood chickens. ) That name still bugs me, tho, I might debadge it completely. It’s a moot point, tho- we’re still paying for my wife’s Aztek, and even tho my new job would easily cover another car payment, we’re trying to move house in September, to a condo or even just a bigger apt. Plus, I would never buy the first model year of a car as complex as the G6 vert, anyway. And on top of that, I worry about what would become of the Mach 5 once I stopped driving her daily- ideally, she would become the subject of a mild resto, but most likely she’d end up parked for months at a time and falling into further disrepair, and I can’t let that happen. I hope you’re happy, Pontiac and GM. Now I want- nay, must have- the Solstice and the G6 convertible- and I’ve never even been a big fan of droptops. Congrats on taking a step towards rescuing a long-time GM fan from the brink of total disillusionment. You bastards. ;-) PS- make mine electric Blue Metallic, ya bums.
  21. Out for a Sunday drive w/ my family today, I saw this Catalina (67, 68?) parked on a lawn: Is this some home-style hackjob, or a Canada-only version, or what? Notice the parting line around the door, and the joint where the window frame angles forward- def. looks hand-made. (Just realized the pics are kinda crappy, sorry.) Doesn't look like a pickup bed, it looks like some kind of trunklid is still present. Just strange, never seen one like that before. FWIW
  22. I'm pretty sure that a thread w/ "spring break" in the subject and no girlie pics therein is a violation of Internet law- don't make me go Chuck Norris on all y'all!
  23. I agree w/ dart, I don't like rubber mats either. Good custom-fit ones look OK, but they're slippery when wet, so my heel slides around sometimes. When I buy my 4th set of floor mats one of these days soon (probably look for good aftermkt), I'll cut a good piece off the old one and double-sided-tape it to the new one where my heel goes. Works great, looks good (dark gray carpet blends in together), and keeps my foot put. Heh-heh, I rhymed.
  24. Your question assumes the Mach 5 won't last forever... She's doing her darndest at lasting forever, that's for sure, turning 240k this week. I'd have to say she'll be remembered as the GTP that would never say "die", utterly fearless and always there to get me out of a jam- or into one. Raced other cars on Ashland Ave. on Chicago's north side at 3am; drove almost 400-mile round trips every weekend for over a year to see my girlfriend/now-wife; drove that wife to the hospital to have our first baby daughter; drove to my mother's side at 2am that sad September morning when my father died; drove from Chicago to CA and back one glorious November. She was my first new car, and as long as I can replace or weld whatever breaks I'll hang on to her. Maybe that'll be her legancy: making herself so very memorable that I would move heaven and Earth to keep her around another mile. Not many cars make people feel that way.
