Ocn, I am glad you are relaxed, and hope that you are firing all your cylinders after due rest. I love camping too. When I started my my job, we used to have an engineer who LIVED in a campground in Cocoa Beach with his wife for almost two years - till she was knocked. Then they moved into a small house. They used camp's facilities for their hygienic activities.

Good job. One of the best aftermarket wheels which are not too blingy, tacky or hideous. Great price too. I love them.
-
Wow, I didn't know that. I was assuming you could go offroading with the 5-speed. That is a real bummer.

Yes and Yes. Mini just shelved the plans of introducing diesels in USA last month or so.

Sweden investigates possible Saab investor pullout (Reuters)
Z-06 replied to Croc's topic in General Motors
I always maintained this and will still maintain - after throwing away a lot of money in giving SAAB an actual portfolio of cars it deserves it would be really stupid of GM to sell the brand. Like it or not SAAB should be with GM as should be Opel, Holden, Daewoo, Pontiac and Buick. All need different focus and some of us fans have to accept that not all brands will serve everything. If we are GM fans then we should substitute for what we had with what GM will offer through other brand. -
Is the M5 same price as a brand new 2009 CTS-V?
-
Corsa would make a good Buick - although granted it has not been modified for US regulations, however with newer gamma coming soon, wonder it would make as a Buick.
-
Are they planning to attack Mini et. al with Buick? By giving Buick the premium Gamma?

[source: Wall Street Journal] RHJ Will Sweeten Bid for GM's European Unit By DANA CIMILLUCA Belgian investment firm RHJ International plans to sweeten its bid for General Motors Co.'s European unit in an effort to overcome German government opposition to its bid. RHJ is developing a revised bid for GM's Opel/Vauxhall operations that would lower the amount of German taxpayer-funded loan guarantees required from €3.8 billion ($5.38 billion) to as little as €3.6 billion, people familiar with the matter said Friday. That would be €900 million below the amount of state aid envisioned in a rival offer from car-parts maker Magna International Inc. RHJ appears to be pressing recent signs of momentum in its bidding war with Magna and its partner, Russian lender Sberbank, for GM's German and U.K. operations. Although Magna's offer has widespread support in Germany, GM appears to prefer RHJ's offer. GM's lead negotiator on the deal said in a Blog post Thursday that RHJ's offer is simpler and GM and Magna still have a host of issues to work through. A deal with Magna and Sberbank poses risks for GM that a deal with RHJ would not. Magna supplies parts to GM rivals and plans to partner with Russian automaker OAO GAZ if it wins the auction. GM is concerned that its intellectual property would leak through Magna. Magna on Friday said it would create a "firewall" to keep trade secrets of its customers safe should its Opel bid succeed. As part of any sweetened offer, RHJ could boost its €275 million equity component, one of the people said. The proposal also envisions the elimination of 10,000 jobs. With the auction dragging out amid the apparent impasse between GM and Germany, the possibility is growing that a definitive agreement with one party won't be struck before national parliamentary elections are held Sept. 27 in Germany.

Chevy Equinox and GMC Terrain have the 3.0 DI.
-
What is stiffling is GM wanted to outdo the competitors and outdid them in almost every department including weight and excluding powertrain. If GM knew that the vehicle was going to be on a St. Louis ribs diet, it should have added 3.6LDI. That would have served three purposes: Separating it from Equinox V6 further. Giving an engine worthy to haul that heavy hiney. Bragging rights for most powerful engine standard in its class. The engine would not have had lack of torque like the 3.0DI is. And if Caddy still wanted the high output version, the twin turbo 2.8 should have been bumped to 340 odd hp (it is already making close to 330hp in the Insignia).

I read about it in Bicycling Magazine. I think this is a great idea, similar to Dog Tags in Civilian Mode. I am planning to buy one. Thanks B.

I have heard about it from a Marine friend, who has been working out since past two months. I have read some good reviews on Amazon. While I cannot say if it is scientific or not, it seems reasonable. I do not know if I can stand the guy though, he seems occasionally irritating and pompous. Are the DVD's of good quality? Did you receive the workout guide and nutrition guide in the package? These are the major quibbles from the folks at Amazon. 5,000 Yay!

[source: MSNBC] Senate reaches deal on extending 'clunkers' Lawmakers agree to vote Thursday on adding $2 billion to rebate plan WASHINGTON - The Senate reached a deal late Wednesday on saving the dwindling "cash for clunkers" program, agreeing to vote on a plan that would add $2 billion to the popular rebate program and give car shoppers until Labor Day to trade in their gas-guzzlers for a new ride. Following lengthy negotiations, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said Democrats and Republicans had agreed to vote on the plan Thursday, along with a series of potential changes to the bill, which was passed by the House last week. Reid has said Democrats have enough votes to approve the measure and reject any changes that would cause an interruption in the rebates of up to $4,500. Reid said the agreement "accomplishes what we need to accomplish." The vote was not expected to happen until after 7 p.m. ET. Late Wednesday, it was not clear that any of the proposed amendments stood a chance of passing. Some of them included placing an income limit on those benefiting from the vouchers and requiring the government to sell off its stakes in General Motors Co. and Chrysler Group LLC. Any Senate changes to the bill would require another vote in the House, something that couldn't take place until the House returns in September from a monthlong recess. August recess starts Friday The government said Wednesday that more than $775 million of the $1 billion fund had been spent, accounting for nearly 185,000 new vehicles sold. President Barack Obama has said the program would go broke by Friday if not replenished by Congress. That's the same day the Senate was to follow the House into the August recess, a looming break that Senate leaders often use to prod their colleagues past standoffs. "We all acknowledge there's a significant majority that want to move forward with this legislation," Reid, D-Nev., said earlier in the day, adding that he has the votes to approve the House-passed version as is. His Republican counterpart, Sen. Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, concurred that the matter would be settled soon. And objectors conceded they do not have the votes to force all of the changes they want, or to block the House version of the bill. "My guess is, at the end of the day, it will pass," said Sen. John Thune, R-S.D., who called it an example of "Congress choosing winners and losers among industries." The program offers car buyers rebates of between $3,500 and $4,500 for trading in their gas-guzzlers for new, higher-mileage models. Cost of program to triple The new funding would triple the cost of $1 billion rebate program and give as many as a half-million more Americans the chance to grab the new car incentives through September. Top 10 new vehicles purchased Officials at the Department of Transportation provided new figures on the "Cash for Clunkers" program. 1. Toyota Corolla 2. Ford Focus FWD 3. Honda Civic 4. Toyota Prius 5. Toyota Camry 6. Hyundai Elantra 7. Ford Escape FWD 8. Dodge Caliber 9. Honda Fit 10. Chevrolet Cobalt Car companies have credited the clunkers program with driving up sales in late July. Most consumers are buying smaller, more fuel-efficient vehicles under the program, according to a list of the top-10 selling cars released Wednesday by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Among manufacturers, General Motors Co. had the largest share, accounting for 18.7 percent of new sales, followed by Toyota Motor Corp. with 17.9 percent. Ford Motor Co. was third with 16 percent of the sales. Detroit automakers represented 45.3 percent of the total sales while Japan's Toyota, Honda Motor Co. and Nissan Motor Co. accounted for 36.5 percent. The Toyota Corolla is the top-selling vehicle on the list, followed by the Ford Focus, Honda Civic, Toyota Prius and the Toyota Camry. There is one SUV on the list, the Ford Escape, which also comes in a hybrid model that can get up to 32 miles per gallon. Six of the top-10 selling vehicles are built by foreign manufacturers, but most are built in North America. Percentage of sales by manufacturer Here's a breakdown by automaker on percentage of sales through the "Cash for Clunkers" program to date. Nearly half of the new vehicles purchased were from the Big Three. The Big Three's share in this program (45%) is equivalent to their overall share in the auto market (about 45%). 1. General Motors 18.7% 2. Toyota 17.9% 3. Ford 16.0% 4. Honda 11.6% 5. Chrysler 10.6% 6. Nissan 7.0% 7. Hyundai 6.6% 8. Kia 3.8% 9. Mazda 2.3% 10. Subaru 2.2% 11. Volkswagen 1.9% 12. Suzuki 0.4% 13. MINI 0.3% 14. Mitsubishi 0.3% 15. Smart 0.2% 15. Volvo 0.1% 17. All other 0.1% Among states, Michigan has taken most advantage of the program, requesting more than $44 million in vehicle vouchers. California dealers had requested nearly $40 million in vouchers, and Ohio had sought nearly $38 million. Senate passage would send the legislation to the White House for Obama's signature and assure consumers there will be no interruption in the program that has led to packed car dealerships nationwide. The deals are aimed at boosting auto sales, which have been at their lowest levels in two decades. Copyright 2009 The Associated Press. All rights reserved.
