General Bob said that he wanted the ATS to be very light and nimble. The car is very much his brain child. Alpha will be the first GM platform to use high-strength materials all around. Another thing Alpha is flexible, cresting at 4,000 lbs means that larger vehicles build on that platform may weigh up to 4,000 lbs.
-
To me this is no-news. Benchmarking is done by every auto manufacturer. No matter how less value for money 3er has become, when it comes to handling and dynamics it is on top of the pack till it cedes that crown to the ATS.

Verano is a Delta. I meant Encore. Some say Encore will be Delta, others say Gamma. Encore is Delta. GMC is getting the Gamma.

I totally can see myself having this as a third car with no need for having a gas guzzling truck to carry my stuff. I do not foresee myself towing anything as of now.

Nah... Escalades do not have to have great fuel economy or smaller size. For that Caddy already has the Theta based SRX. Escalades should remain a big SUV with a BIG engine, there is still a demand for that kind of thing. Let's see how long that demand lasts at $4.25 a gallon. Especially if other automakers make 3 row big crossovers with diesels or hybrids. And what if gas hits $5 a gallon in a couple years. Better to be ahead of the curve, rather than stuck with a big truck with a thirsty engine when the market goes somewhere else. Snoop Dog wannabees will not care about 4.25 a gallon, nor will Range Rover purchasers. There is no reason to get rid of the Escalade. Instead, Caddy just needs to add a middle vehicle to compete against the X5's and Cayenne's. Perhaps a Sigma II-based crossover, and then the next SRX could fall onto Alpha, perhaps? Well said. Caddy needs Escalade because it is a unique vehicle that has everything paid for by the GMT 900s and thus bringing in handsome dough. What GM really needs is to gun after the ML, X5, Q7, and Cayenne crowd with something unique. But a Lambda will not cut it.

Seriously? Cadillac CTS 3.6 - 3,847 lbs Audi A6 3.0 - 4,123 lbs BMW 535i - 4,090 lbs Infiniti M37 - 3,898 lbs Jaguar XF - 3,924 lbs Lexus GS350 - 3,795 lbs MB E350 - 3,828 lbs Essentially it is the third lightest in its group and below the average weight of 3,930 lbs. With heavily modified or new platform boasting high strength steel, GM can keep the weight in check despite of adding more girth to it. Seriously Version 2.0 Passenger Volumes in ft3 Cadillac CTS 3.6 - 98 Audi A6 3.0 - 97 BMW 535i - 101 Infiniti M37 - 99 Jaguar XF - 104 Lexus GS350 - 96 MB E350 - 99 Granted it is the third smallest, but still comparable among the class. Average volume 99 ft3. Again the real pig is A6, which BTW was humped to glory by Car and Driver being the best Driver's car.

Good numbers post. Interestingly, in that whole list, at least the Audi has standard AWD as a reason for its high weight. The Bimmer, however, is just fat. That may be partially true. Audi A6 is a heavy car. The UK 2.8 FWD weighs about 3,680 lbs while the 3.0TFSI weighs 3,887. That is not an apple to apple comparison considering the engines are different. Granted US specs cars are heavier because of safety requirements. The AWD penalty is about 200 lbs. So the 3.0TFSI in FWD would weigh about 3,923 lbs for US spec version, which is still heavy. We bitch about Regal being heavy, but any guesses for how much the A4 weighs?

Yeah I forgot the catfish and snapper. Suddenly list gets extended. Another one I like is snook. Too bad it is now banned from being fished till 2014 because last winter almost destroyed snook population in FL.

I have recently decided to be fishi-terian along with just eating veggies, so I cannot stop but think of seafood and ways to make it taste GOOD! Which fish would you like to eat if seafood was the only option available? Mine: Calamari Salmon Grouper Promfet

Dear Mother of God. This thing might be creating EXCITEMENT!!!! The car is too connoisseur-esque for a showroom of overly designed Hyundais. -

The Saab Story Continues: Deal With Hawtai Motor Group Collapses
Z-06 replied to William Maley's topic in SAAB / NEVS
Actions speak louder than words Mr. Big Mouth Muller. So much for blaming GM and saying how he will be better than GM in resuscitating SAAB. -
I am planning to take PMP test. I have a good understanding of construction management. Call me and we can discuss.

GM Executive Calls Out Nissan Leaf, Talks About Spring Hill

I wonder what our member from CT has to say about his extended range mileage on highway, who actually owns one. Rather than us being armchair critics. -
Well said. A perfect example is, unfortunately, Hyundai and Kia.

Give me sometime to write about the three prong attack to the solution. Working for a corporation sucks when it comes to doing things like these.

Camino, to understand where the society would lead to for having to charge no profit for lending, one has to go back to how profit from lending started, which consequently led to capitalism. In the 15th-16th century Europe Jewish merchants started charging interests to sailors and traders getting shipments from Eastern India and East Indies for the items they were importing. The society was introduced to the fact that money can keep on growing. It was a revolutionary concept then, mainly derided by population, Shakespeare's in "Merchant of Venice" was a prime example of such derision. The modern day core capitalism value of indefinite growth of money that Adam Smith and et. al, developed, was based on this notion. Is it really fair to imagine that ANYTHING will constantly keep on growing indefinitely? If the answer is No, then how do you keep check and balance of the growth with reduction? Some will say that Universe is growing indefinitely. But that is in broader concept, Black Holes are actually shrinking some parts of the Universe, albeit with a lesser degree. But who is to hypothesize that rate of shrinking from Black Holes can actually exceed the rate of growth of Universe eventually to act as a balance? So even the Universe has a check and balance to curtail indefinite growth. There may be three ways to curtail the rampant, uncontrolled growth of capitalism, which should answer your question of not charging interests for profit. First - Through Social Enlightenment Second - Through Political Curtailment Third - Through Economic Innovation I will elaborate on those three later, but those three form the pillars of modern day democratic society. Note here, I am not against capitalism, but here the fundamentals of capitalism should be upgraded to make it relevant again. It just bothers me as Oldsmoboi posted in other thread that few hundred people control 33% of our Nation's wealth. What has changed compared to the Feudal society of the Medival when it comes to who controls the economic interests of a society? The rules have (democracy vs. king's law) but the ideology has not. However, democracy has given "opportunity" to be a feudal lord. Two examples in history where economy and ideas still flourished, contrary to Fappin's fear, despite of no opportunity to profit from lending were: 1. Genghis Khan's regime. 2. 4th-2nd Century BC India, a time when Kautilya (Chanakya) wrote an epic - Arthashastra (Economics), which can still be considered relevant in modern day society with some modifications.

Cadillac ATS-V On the Way, Will Get Twin-Turbocharged V-6 - Car News
Z-06 replied to BigPontiac's topic in Cadillac
Way to miss my point. The GT-R isn't faster because of any mechanical superiority, but rather the extensive computer programming that allows it to (seemingly) break the rules of physics. For the ATS-V to gain any credibility among the M3/C63/RS4 crowd, it has to be a driver's car in all aspects. Not a car that's programmed to allow any Joe Blow off the street to be able to snap off respectable 'Ring times (should they ever travel to Germany in the first place...). Actually, I have no beef about the ATS-V getting Magnetoriological shocks or an active differential. But, they need to keep an eye on the costs. The ATS-V should be about $45~50K, given the $60K price point of the CTS-V. This also puts at a the same price point as the E46 M3, one which the $60K E90 M3 or C63 priced themselves out of. I think getting the Magneto shocks and active differential would not be cost issue as GM is proliferating the former technology into lower cars and increasing its volume. ZL-1 is also getting those shocks and will play in the same price pool. -
And Done.
