  1. I don't understand why Buick cannot break out of the 'LAME 2 word contrived slogan' bag. It's all good sucked, Beyond Precision sucked less and now Driver Beautiful sucks less-er, I guess... Geez, all that heritage of beautiful design and all they can come up with is this?
  2. AMEN! Detroit should've been playing OFFENSE for 10 years now on all fronts. GM, Ford and DCX are no where near aggressive enough to survive. They need to fight Toyota, fight and contradict media/pop culture (That it isn't cool to buy american) and fight the spineless politicians. If america wants to destroy Detroit, then Detroit needs to give america a nice swift kick in the nuts on it's way out. Remind america that this industry is still one of the biggest R&D resource in this country and remind america how bad it will hurt if 7 out of 10 cars sold in america are no longer manufactured in america and finally, make it known that our taxpayers will be paying BIG $$$ in pension money for MANY years to come. The time has come for Detroit to stop being so nice and embrace the new american way of screwing over others to get what you need. Toyota adopted it a long time ago, and in that sense they a PURELY american and more so than the big 3. The politicians don't care and haven't for years and the majority of the public is either beyond apathetic about the situation or cheering every death blow dealt to Detroit. It's sad that we were on the verge of such a great revival for ALL of the Detroit automakers, yet our own government sees fit to pull the trigger on the gun that will end it all. Traitors.
  3. I didn't know Dan Neil could father children... Judging solely on his musing, he doesn't seem to have the required equipment.
  4. Wow! What a difference a color makes... I was thus far lukewarm to the G8, but I must say that red REALLY looks good on it and I LOVE the new emblem! BTW, this is further proof that GM cannot pull off marketing and PR. They should've debuted the car in this color.
  5. That's VERY cool!!! I've always wanted a General Lee. There are a number of sites on the net about real General Lee Chargers from the show being restored. Some of the 'frankenstein-ing' performed to those cars during the show just fascinates the hell out of me.
  6. Dan Neil is a bastard... Always has been and always will be... The typical selfish, asshole yuppie that gives EVERY american a bad name simply because he won't get a real job. I'm not sure whether I agree with abortion or not. I think one should have the choice, especially if the child is going to have a hard life. However, I'm not sure it's our position as human beings to decide whether a life should cease to exist.
  7. Absolutely... The school of thought maintains that capitalism can corrupt anything. Music is marketable, so the "art" part of the equation is swaped in favor of 'happy violence' (Which means avenged, justice style) and sexuality because it sells. ENTER: 50 cent, Britney Spears, etc. It's a product that's watered down and not particularly good at one thing, yet it's universal so it appeals to and can sell to A LOT of people. Same principle with appliances and technology. Not all of them are that good, but they're all universally appealing. I can also apply this principle to the car market, but we all know how that is.
  8. I look at it this way as well... I'll probably spend all of 30 minutes or an hour studying for each of my finals. Research has shown that "cramming" tends to create confusion and that studying right before bed helps your brain store the information in long term memory. Idealistically, studying should be a review as opposed to learning something. As for the gen ed stuff, yeah that was more difficult for me because it is essentially the same crap from high school, except more elaborate and it was stuff that I had no vested interest in. But once you make the move into major specific classes, it's an excellent experience and becomes much easier, IMO anyway.
  9. LOL. I took up the hobby of collecting old traffic lights last year as I also collect old signs and anything automobilia related. The first one I bought spent it's life in Dunn NC before becoming a permanent fixture of my apartment here at school. It's just a standard NC 12 inch. I know, it's a weird tangent, but consider the source.
  10. You know, to be such a beautiful concept the Insignia really didn't get that much attention. Especially considering that it was, as far as I know, the first look at Zeta.
  11. +1 That post just makes WAY too much sense for a majority of the people on this board to agree with it.
  12. Yes, I will. And I'll be encouraging them to outsource the other 30% as fast as they can.
  13. UNC-Charlotte where she has 3 more years (5 year program) and then she's thinking about UVA for grad school. You both have my respect, I don't think I could pull off a curriculum like that. I mean, I'm dedicated and passionate, but I also enjoy sleeping
  14. Hey, that's where my traffic light came from! LOL. I agree 100%, as that is my situation exactly. UNCC and Charlotte in general isn't that liberal, but most of my friends are from my and my girlfriends UBER LIBERAL majors.
  15. I came to the realization that I am actually NO LONGER 'a kid' this year when I realized that on May 12th I will be the age that my parents were when they had me.... (25) Where the hell has the time gone? Oh, and I found 2 gray hairs in my goatee a couple of months ago and flipped the f**k out. Like you, it really bothers me... I've had sort of a first quarter crisis. And I'm tired of always being a DAMN "era" too late. I love muscle cars (60s) I love thrash metal (80s) I love rural lifestyle, I love american cars (No longer in style) I actually have beliefs and values unlike most kids today and I HATE the effing ghetto culture that everyone seems to be thinking they're a part of these days. I've come close to being charged with assaulting a minor a few times over the past few years (LOL) I'm tired of all these 'fity' wannabes thinking they're hardcore when you know they'd run crying to mommy if ever truly confronted. I'm just a very nostalgic and 'classic' person I guess.
  16. There is an entire school of thought in Sociology that supports this... Concluding that we are "told the myth that technology is the future, and will make our lives easier" when in reality the "technology" is actually designed, as is the rhetoric, to pad the pockets of capitalists and big business. Less appliance life = More $$$ for businesses.... More technology and 'gadgets' = More $$$ for businesses.
  17. Unfortunately I'm experiencing the same afflictions... One final was a take home; I'll quote my instructor on this one so you can get a feel for it yourself: "A good paper will be anywhere from 30-35 pages." We've had 4 of these "take home exams" this semester. I've already been through a lab final (piece of cake) and my Managerial Accounting final (which I only needed like a 48 on to get my desired grade) This week brings my last 2 finals and the due date for my last project. I think I've been more busy this semester than ever before. The lab required a weekly project, the accounting class required pop quizzes, nightly homework and 3 projects, the 'take home test class' had 4 tests and 2 projects, and my other two classes, combined, involved 6 projects throughout the semester. That's not even counting my very passionate involvement in Relay For Life My girlfriend is an architecture major and will often stay in studio literally for 3-4 days at a time (except to come home and take a shower) At the end of her final critique she slept for something like 16 hours because she had been up for so long. It's cool though, I often find myself going into school after I get off (11-12 at night) to work on things and hang out with them (It's a small program and it's like a family) When we get tired we go to the "rave room" which is a critique room that we have fitted with a strobe and some speakers or Room 290, which is a small stadium theatre of sorts where we can put on a DVD and work on our laptops; breaks the monotony. We also tend to go on walks around the campus at night and explore the academic buildings (most of which are unlocked) for cool $h! such as basements and tunnels since the heating sytem is campus wide. 'Coping' is serious business for me since I get so tense and wound up. I often find strees relief in watching a good movie or being somewhere in nature and relaxing or going out with friends. I think it is essential that we not forget to just have fun
  18. Actually, Art Spinella and CNW are not biased (in favor of the domestics anyway) This is just part of the MASSIVE war of deception being waged by Toyota... They will stop at nothing to sway america and americans are ignorant enough to believe everything they say as well. They'll win the war... It'll take time, but they will. I was confident in a GM revival, but now that it is blatantly obvious that the government doesn't give 3 $h!s about Detroit, and in fact is willing to sacrifice them, www.aintgonnahappen.com.
  19. Where I'm originally from: (They are the same place, the community surrounds the town) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swannanoa%2C_North_Carolina http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Mountai..._North_Carolina http://www.blackmountain.org/ This is, of course, right next trAsheville NC http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asheville I now reside here for most of the year (And hate every second of it) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charlotte More specifically; University City. (Scroll down) But next year I'm moving to NoDa or Plaza/Midwood
  20. I say they move to China.... Forget america, they forgot about GM and Ford a LOOOONG time ago. I'd love to see them move.
  21. +1 Because they don't buy GM cars AND they stand to profit from it's demise.
  22. +1.... GM needs to get Chevrolet in line, and fast... No MCE Cobalt yet, a delayed malibu, now a delayed Impala.... By the time the RWD Impala hits the market, the name will be so tarnished that it'll be irrelevant. C'mon GM! You have other brands besides Saturn.... Chevrolet & Cadillac especially are now starting to show a lack of direction And as far as GM becoming irrelevant to mainstream sedan buyers.... that happened about 3 years ago. Now GM must fight to get BACK INTO the minds of consumers.
  23. No more Lime Yellow.... That sux. Saab needs work, hella bad.
