DeadStar - Analog shutdown kills pre-'02 OnStar
FUTURE_OF_GM replied to Flybrian's topic in General Motors
Nice to see the article was based on GM, yet includes MANY other vehicles... Biased ass news, as usual -
WE are not allowed in Japan... Yet they can destroy our industries. One more reason america is a spineless excuse for what it used to be.
-
Sounds almost as lame as the new Cadillac campaign.
-
Count me in on that one as well.... I don't know why the new trend at GM is to slap the ugliest, auto parts store-hubcap like wheels on all the Cadillacs. MOST of the new Cadillac wheels are GOD-AWEFUL (The new CTS offerings... These... All but the largest of the DTS and Escalade offerings... The STS-V and XLR-V offerings) and it seems that the trend started at last years SEMA show. GM, seriously.... It seems that the Cadillac revival is losing steam and it's becoming pathetic how unattractive and "tacked on" the vehicles are starting to look. We know you can do better.
-
I think our good friend the STS just needs a complete overhaul in the interior department... Actually, lets just overhaul the whole thing.
-
Overall, I'm VERY impressed!!!! Excellent job GM!!!! This should give BUick a new lease on life!!! Well, unless the press destroys it. Remember, the Edge and MKX looked like homeruns as well until the press 'made up' a bunch of $h! about them.
-
Confirmation bias... "My import is still better because; etc, etc," I just love how the media, now that it has successfully elevated Toyota and Honda above the domestics, is now also roping in all the other "New" asian offerings as BETTER THAN now.... Hyundai Sonata and Azera.... Yeah right..... Nissan Altima.... Come talk to me when it doesn't fall apart. Yet again, as is the case with essentially EVERY media review of a competitive domestic car, there is the requisite and default suspense building question of the day... GOD FORBID they actually SAY the car is a success.... NOOOOOO, they have to make it a 'wait and see' situation, which leaves a question in the consumers mind and subsequently achieves the required result... LESS sales for the car. "Brief".... But still fleeting. Did anybody REALLY think the media wouldn't take a dump all over GM & Fords new 6 speed?!?!?! C'mon, it was a joke all along to them. Now that they have started prodcuing a "modern" transmission, it simply isn't good enough either.... Yet, the "OLD" (Screamed at the top of their lungs) 4 speed gets praise?!?! Someone want to tell me why this asshole pulled a punch here?!?!? Oh, wait, the car is competitive, I forgot. Is he expecting the car not to sell as well as GM wanted?!?! PROBABLY. And BTW, NOT forcasting sales is a little trick GM learned from the asians. Therefore, it MUST be god's will. (sarcasm... obviously) Anyone want to tell me why the XR ISN'T the Aura?!?!?! Sounds like the same split personality/ split review crap GM gets with the Lacrosse CXL verses the Lacrosse CXS. GM, make the XR and CXS the DEFAULT, not the premium!
-
Hopefully Platinum doesn't equal Ghetto, since that's the way Cadillac seems to be leaning with recent show cars.
-
I agree 100% I hated the Compass, until I saw one in person. The Trailhawk screams Nitro to me and the Nassau scream Infiniti/Lincoln MKS. Hope they're better in the sheet metal
-
True that.... On both accounts, but especially the first one. It's almost as if GM is dancing around the point... The first line of the article states that they will focus on crossovers.... WHY?!?!?!?! By focusing on crossovers, they're going to have to engineer and build a new crossover off of a smaller platform (I still maintain that Lambda in it's current form is too big) then they're going to have to ESTABLISH a new name in the market, then they're going to have to find some way to MARKET an SUV to a crowd that 1) Does not hold GM in high regard 2) Increasingly doesn't hold SUVs in high regard (I know it's not a true SUV---But these people won't) and 3) People who are already looking at excellent Toyotas and Hondas that appeal to them and serve their needs in a completely different class. So; WHY NOT JUST SAVE THE TIME AND BUILD A FRIGGIN' COMPETITIVE MINIVAN?!?!?!?!?! Why complicate things further?!?!?! This seems to be the same logic GM uses a lot.... For example, the CTS. WHY not build the CTS as an exportable direct competitor to the 3 series instead of giving it the awkward designation of 5 series size, as well as STS sized and cheaper price..... GM, please, just FOCUS and COMPETE!
-
Why would they do that?!?!?! Last I heard they were making a MINT on the market.... Especially since they were the media deemed "BEST" in the segment DESPITE DCX domination OF the segment. And if Minivans are so out of style, why did Kia just launch a new one heavily and why is VW thinking about it?!?!?! GM would be very stupid not to produce a minivan of some sort, or a replacment. To not target establishing families is suicide. Not to count these are the people GM needs to be converting. Now, if GM were to offer a competitive replacement for them, like Ford is doing for it's minivans (The Fairlane) then I wouldn't be whining so much. And BTW, am I the only one who thinks the Lambdas are TOO BIG to be minivan replacements?
-
That's it GM.... Give up..... Give in.... That's what they want you to do.
-
Keep dreaming.... It'll be the 2008 Corolla. The days of Detroit getting the respect it deserves are over. Detroit is finally completely out of style, and now the mags aren't affraid to do what they've been wanting to do for years, yet haven't because sentiment was divided... That is; cast the domestics away, for good. Do you honestly think CR has kept 1 and only 1 domestic on it's list for the past however many years now because they actually liked the car?!?!?! Yeah right... Oh and BTW, I'll bet anyone here BIG MONEY that the Camry will be NA COTY as well.
-
I love how Motor Trend went from the ONE magazine that held out hope for Detroit (Which is why they were a joke--- we all know the snobs that read the rags don't drive domestics... Domestic drivers are idiot neanderthals that aren't edjumacated enough to read) to the BIGGEST import humping agency in the business with the big "staff change" Guess they're trying to reach the 'younger' audience, which exclusively drives and aspires to imports. (As they've been told to do) Anyway, F**K it.... The Camry was a sure winner, since it is on the right side of god afterall... At least, according to the media and Toyota PR. And since it didn't have any competition. But I'm sure we'll hear about this forever... I can see the ads now: "Toyota Camry. The americanist, american built american favorite american driven american car there is in america." So do the american thing and buy imported america!!! (To quote the article from "The Economist")
-
I think the Camrys interior looks trendy and cheap compared to the Malibu.
-
I couldn't have said it better myself... I was hoping for an interior that is Bel Air concep-esque and this is a little tamer. The materials look excellent, but the design isn't as radical as I would've liked. Of course, I'm sure I'm in the minority, as always.
-
It's just another reason to REINFORCE their bias... It's the same concept as bitching about how soft the materials are or the stitching of the headliner... It's akin to two old women trying to out-do each other and one picking apart the other just for the sake of being better. They *know* the import is better and they have to PROVIDE justification for themselves.
-
I swear to god man... Reading Car & Driver these days is akin to listening to shallow soroity girls bitch about who slapped who at the club last night... It's just a bunch of whiney, effeminate, WORTHLESS drivel that one must suffer through.
-
I just hope they don't allow the H2 and H3 to wither and rot while they execute these new vehicles. It's SOOO GM-esque to have positive momentum, then get caught up in dragging their feet on rounding out the line up, then asking why they can't gain ground because they're caught in the viscious cycle of new product being old by the time the other new product is news. (A.K.A The new entries can't gain share because all their sales are going to COMPENSATE for the share loss of the two older products)
-
30% for the Lucerne is pretty damn impressive given that the basic fabric of this car is so old. I think this is an excellent campaign, especially on the celebrity side of the coin, since every 12 year old (read: maturing car buyer) seems to think he's a thug now and listens to hip hop exclusively. That ties directly in to all the kids who are buying the big Buicks, Cadillacs & Chevrolets to "pimp them out" If Buick can get cred with that crowd, then they'll be set. Of course, I'm sure it'll cost them in the YUPPIE automotive media. Afterall, the Escalade went UBER-KOOL this year and has pretty much been chastised as a gangsta' mobile. But then, who cares, since no one really listens to the auto rags anymore. Well, no one except UP TIGHT white assholes who wouldn't be caught dead in a domestic anyway. They'd rather be seen in their Lexi, Subarus and 'techie' Acuras.

VERY, VERY cool

I think the Nitro is one hot little SUV... I LOVE the Hemi Nitro, except for 2 things: 1) The hood needs to be simpler, to give it that solid look and 2) The color.
-
That's an ugly mofo...
-
THAT is the grille that should've been in the production GXP to begin with... The rings add so much of a 'finished' quality to it, the grilles don't just look like slabs of plastic now.
-
Oh, F*** off.... Arrogant ass Toyota drone, talking that sh*t like always. Bring it on! I think the 900s have a little bit more going for them than LOYALTY. Of course, that said, I'm sure the Tundra will be hailed as "A success that facilitates the demise of Detroit" and then all the little sheep will steadily switch over, just as they're told to do. Does abyone else already sense a defeatist attitude coming from GM... Of course, I guess that's to be expected since they've been told they're losers for 20 years now. LEARNED HELPLESSNESS
