The Ferrari that crashed and burned Friday morning in north Fulton, critically injuring the two people inside, was a gift to the 18-year-old driver from has father. Channel 2 Action News reported that Akshay Panducherry, 18, of Alpharetta, who was burned over 80 percent of his body, was given the Italian sports car last week. His passenger, Harshavardhan Patlolla, 21, of Alpharetta was also critically injured. Alpharetta police spokesman George Gordon told the AJC that authorities initially got a call just before 4 a.m. about a possible brush fire on Webb Bridge Road near Alpharetta High School. “Unfortunately, when our police officers arrived on the scene, they discovered the fire was actually caused by a single-vehicle crash,” Gordon said. “They found a red Ferrari that was on fire approximately 60 yards into a wood line.” Gordon said that the two men inside the Ferrari had crawled out of the car, but had sustained “significant” burn injuries. They were airlifted to Grady Memorial Hospital in critical condition, he said. “The vehicle itself is totally destroyed,” Gordon said. “It went completely up in flames and it basically is not recognizable as a vehicle at this point.” “We know that a high rate of speed was a contributing factor in this crash,” Gordon said. The Ferrari was a model F430, which was manufactured from 2004 to 2009. It had a base price of $171,000 and an estimated top speed near 200 mph, according to Road & Track magazine

Handling as superb for a street car, and the car was very comfortable. The other plus was the power train, which was very GM like...as in EMD-SD-40 freight locomotive like. The Focus ST has enough tourque to pull away from traffic at any speed in seemingly any gear, and the car loves to pass and accelerate. It's not pin your eyeballs to your retna's tourque like a Corvettew Z06, but rather like a very large, eager dog on a leash that's seen another dog. Imagine Camino's Dog Arkus seeing another dog on a nice walk and wanting to get face to face with the strange dog RIGHT NOW. That's what this car feels like. I've got to pick up my daughter at the library, but I will finish this review later....

The reason I say this is that the Focus ST is a taint, but a darn good one. And by Taint,. I mean that it isn't a pure sports car like a Corvette, Miata, Porsche Boxster or Cayman, a Shelby Mustang, an S2000 Honda, BRZ, MR-2, Supra , et al. And also, It's not a pure touring car like the Buick Regal GS, Cadillac ATS, or Chrysler 300. It's about 80 percent of both, and once you understand this, and can appreciate this, you understand what a good job Ford has done with this car. It gets an A as one of the best cars I've ever driven....however I have some concerns, and I am going to relate them here in my review as I compare it to the GTI VW, it's closes competitor. WHAT I LIKED Fit and finish-the car's Tangerene Scream paint job looked like it had been sprayed by Chip Foose for the Oakland Roadster Show rather than for a productioon automobile. Interior assembly was flawless, and details like the feel of the Recaros, the leather wrap on the steering wheel, and the first rate audo system really make you appreciate what a fine automobile this is. I test drove this car with a friend, and after we drove the focus we went next door to check out one of the new Chrysler 300's...this thing is seriously as nice as the 300, if not better.

I went out and relived myself against a rotting F100 sitting in the weedy gravel next to the rural station. As I walked back in, the old man said..."Really, you could have used either one...." he thoughtfully nodded. But you can't be both a boy and a man at the same time. Amazing how some cars rust away up here in the rust belt... Saw a poor Olds 98 the other day ina the junk yard...you could have dribbled a basket ball through the floor boards and trunk floor and not hit anything...it was GONE!

Last time I went to a car show was last weekend...about the first one I've gone to in about two years...busy with racing, family, and avidly doing a lot of reading lately. Car show was in Hendersonville, NC...my 71 year old mother dragged me to the show, as she is as much ofr a car nut as I am, of all things.... Featured...a real Shelby Cobra and a Real GT-40... 3 65 GTO's...all maroon...all post cars...one a tri power 4 sp[eed sweet resto, one an old school 70's ho9t rod, and one a neat original 4 barrael 4 speed survivor car with lots of patina. New car dealers also had their stuff at the show....and the ATS had a crowd around it all of the time. Sonic was very well recieved...LOTS of positive comments on it. Showed my mother a Verano, asa dad is thinking of getting rid of his Toyota Highlander...she loved it. Star of the show was a 62 Buick convertible IMHO...just stunning... And the nicest Chevy Cameo I've ever seen, in turqoise, with a V8...was there...and also a very sweet 51 Foprd F1 wqith a flathead and lots of vintage patina...

Or is the front car an olds or buick...can't tell given the size of the pic....still funny...
