  1. I agree. The TDI VW's are getting about 39-48 MPG for the 09-10 models, and they are giving up about M 10 MPG jsut to meet the EPA guidelines. Can you say "Prius Killer" if they did? Chris
  2. Think of it as part of a complete portfolio. Here in Ohio farm country, people will still buy trucks at $5.00 a gallon. People will still buy Camaros. There will be a market for small cars. The challenge for GM is to put $ on the bottom line. The Aveo is a decent bargain basement car. However, I would be willing to bet that the margin on a MINI, C30 Volvo, GTI VW, et al is a LOT more than the general makes on a Cobalt. GM needs to build a segment leader and be able to price it as such. Around here, the Fit sells for sticker, while the local Nissan dealers and the local Toyopet dealers are selling the Versa and the Yaris at fire sale prices. GM needs to go at this with the idea that they will make money from this car and that it will be a unique car people will want. Given how pathetic the Yaris, Aveo, Smart, Suzuki, et al products are, GM should be able to do this. Should be like fishing with dynamite. Chris
  3. On the positive side, dropped by my local Buick dealer to check out the new LaCrosse in person. SWEET car. Chris
  4. BMW 330D, Cubitar? VW Golf TDI FTW! Chris
  5. Took my 19 Y.O. daughter out for a coke last night...parked next to a new Maroon CTS. NICE! Chris
  6. I'm Carbiz on this one. Which is why I'm bull-ish on Chryco with Fiat as the owner. 500FTW! Chris
  7. That white Fiero just screams parts car. Chris
  8. I remember how profoundly crappy a lot of the Cordobas and so forth ran back then. The owner of the local Chryco dealer was a good "Christian" man who was part of the religous pentecostal type group my mother belonged to. He always felt terrible that he couldn't seem to keep his customers cars from the era running right. He was a VERY good man who tried to do what he could to help people. We could use a few more like him today. Chris
  9. The new 3 is a fantastic car! Chris
  10. Just say it-B-M-W! But the cars I loved were the straight six stovebolts of the 40's and 50's. The older I get, the more I love 1950's American cars. Methinks something like a 1952 fastback Chevy two door with the two tone paint....hmmm. Everyone always thinks I'm nuts for loving them. But having owned both a 1955 and a 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air,I almost would rather have the early 1950's Chev if I were to get another vintage car. Just LOVE the straight six in those. My 57 came with a six...not many Bel Air two door hardtops were sixes, methinks. Chris
  11. I remember that! Chris
  12. Oh...and one of the rotting cars that sits out 24/7 is a 74 454 Convertible, blue with a white top. Good thing I don't know the owner...
  13. God, don't I know. Car I would love to own...tan over a buckskinish interior 1976 Corvette. I've talked about it before, know the guy who owns it, run into him once in awhile in the course of my work. Car is unique...kind of actually Like the color combo just because its so 1970's. But a chocked mill...hell yes! Methinks this is sadly why a lot of C3 Corvettes are left to rot. There are 6 (yes six!) later C3 Corvettes rotting behind barns or behind garages or in carports within a mile or so of my house. The C3 could have been a much better car with the right powertrain. Wish I could go back in time and give GM an LS-3 and the hardware to go with it. THAT would have set the world on fire in 78. But don't get me started on the C3. 1978 Indy pace car...OMG...LUST! Sorry for the derail. Chris
  14. IIRC the straight six went out of production and Ford switched to a V6 about 1997 or so when they changed to the newer, rounder, uglier bodystyle. Chris
  15. To me, I'd take about anything unique and unusual to cruise around in for a day. Chris
  16. Also...remember how piss poor a lot of GM cars ran with the E-Quadrajets. Electronic fuel injection is wonderful. From about 1973 to about 1993 cars jsut didn't seem to run as well...and it really only has been in the last few years the OEM's seem to have gotten the tuning down. Chris
  17. I remember people parking cars over leaves during the fall when Catalytic converters first came out. Few cars died by fire that way. One fire down the street from my grandparetns was rather spectacular. Chris
  18. Sounds just SO good! Chris
  19. I've seen them race at Mid Ohio...and been a corner worker when they've gone by at 100+ wide open. God I'm glad I was born in the twentieth century! Chris
  20. Thank you sir. Going to North Carolina to see my folks. Last night my son's Boy Scout troup fixed all of the families of the boys a HUGE thanksgiving feast of all kinds of good stuff. Even the pies were made from scratch... The Turkey's were smoked...really one of the best thanksgiving meals I've had! Also getting together with my car club buddies. Bunch of us from the Buckeye Miata Club got together for a Thanksgiving/OSU vs. Michigan Party. Had a LOT of fun. Chris
  21. Like I've said before, as a kid growing up in Wisconsin, I remember the snow turning pink under cars when you slammed the door. Almost like the car bleeding to death. And speaking of bleeding to death...just had a wierd thought about Jesus and cars. If Jesus was real and he died, he took upon the sin of the whole world, right? I wonder if Dodgefan's Shadow took on the rust of all of the automotive production for North America for everything since 1989. That would explain why we don't see cars rust as much anymore... Just a thought. Chris
  22. It would be cool to get that car in blue and do a knockoff of the 69 Trans Am Penske Camaro's... THAT would be sweet!
  23. The ecobost thing should be great for Ford. And as much as it pains me to admit it (and it pains me to admit it) Nissan, my least fav. car maker has a winner in the GTR. Okay, so Maybe I dislike Suzuki and Kia and Daewoo and the Chinese and Tatra and Toyota and a few others more than Nissan. Chris
  24. http://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/sad-day-at-cleveland-pull-a-part/16230/page1/ Ouch-Check out pics two and three Chris
  25. While the current LeMons project has been put on hold for a little bit... Check this out. RWD for Camino, Brings back Geo for satty... http://www.motoiq.com/magazinearticles/tabid/59/articleType/ArticleView/articleID/1367/The-Best-Engineered-Lemons--2-the-MetroGnome.aspx
