Bet that GTI is about eleventy billion times better than the Civic SI that came before the GMC. Really to me, the VW is sooo much better than the Civic it isn't even funny. To me, there is a reason why the GTI is rated along with the Corvette and the CTS and the 3 series BMW in the Car and Driver 10 best list. GOOD luck with the GTI! Thinking of getting one myself. I had to drop my 19 year old daughter off at CSCC to do research for an english paper...droped by Byers VW while she was working on her paper. You and me...on the same wavelength. Then I went across the street to the Buick dealer where they had a pristine GNX on display, and a very gently used Colorado Crew Cab 4WD on the salesroom floor. You and me...on the same wavelength. Glad to hear the 307 is doing so well in the buick, knight. And I really do hope you hold onto that Buick. Something about that car... But I do also remember when the four college girls were killed in Indiana in a Pinto that got rear ended. IIRC that's what started the whole thing with the pinto. It happened between Goshen and Elkart Indiana. My mother grew up in Elkart and my father grew up in Goshen and we were visiting gradparents at the time...came upon the scene of the wreck just after they hauled the burned Pinto away. BIG black mark on the pavement...remember it being on the evening news that night. The Pinto had a decent front suspension and a decent iron block 4 cyl. motor. It wasn't a complete crapbox like the unloved Vega. But then again...I've always had a fetish for the Cosworth Vega. Not far from here on a farm next to a barn a Cosworth Vega and first gen RX-7 are both resting, been there for years along with the remains of a vintage Alfa Romeo. Would love to rescue all 3. Too bad Cash for clunkers couldn't have been expanded to take a few embarrasments to the American automotive industry like this off of the road before it ended. I remember the guy across the street from me as a kid was a big GM fan, always had Bonnevilles and Cadillacs. He bought one of these new. That was the LAST time he EVER strayed from GM! Chris

Americans tastes will change when the price of fuel goes up. Anyways, does anyone have any verifyable advantadge to a V8 DOHC for the next Corvette? Seems to me the LS series should do just fine...and no one has given a credible arguement to the contrary IMHO. Chris

Fiat FTW! Seriously, the K car helped saved Chrysler before, a smartly styled and built subcompact might save chryco's bacon now. Not every small car is a penalty box...and gas prices will go through the roof in the next decade. Expect cars like the Camaro and CTS to go away. I'm not saying this because I am happy about it, I am saying it because I think its reality. The free market will do for fuel savings what CAFE standards can't or won't. Chris

I agree with the bodystyle thing. Would love to own another GM car, need a small fuel efficient car, but 'blu is right, the basid sedan bodystyle is about as apealing as a tetnus shot. Chris

Oh, and to everyone reading this thread: Take a C5 Z06 or a C6 Z06 and run it at rull throttle and feel the LS motor. I've DONE IT. Once you've DONE IT you won't worry about DOHC etc. The LS is totally kick butt as a mill. Listening to smk and a few others debate performance mills is about like listening to virgins debate about sex. GO DRIVE THE DARNED CAR AND REPORT BACK ONCE YOU"VE DRIVEN IT IN ANGER. Chris

Think about it though...GM never developed the Northstar to anywhere near its full potential. they can come much closer to developing an LS based mill to its full potential. And as for not spending $300 million...why should they? They just lost over a billion dollars. Pissing away another 300 million on a low volume car like the Corvette makes NO rational sense whatsoever. Chris

Often very low miles hurt a motorhome more than they help it. Seals dry out, etc. A lot of SCCA guys I know of who use them to tow race cars actually look for old rigs with higher miles, as they know they often have been better taken care of, and initial problems will have been dealt with. YMMV. chris

...and probably profoundly stupid but... I think that MINI did itself a disservice by bringing out the Clubman, and then planning on bringing out the Crossman crossover, etc. Think GM would make the same mistake by changing the basic formula of the Corvette. Corvette is old school American Hot Rod with some new school tech thrown in. Change it too much and your diluting the formula. Chris

I know I used to ride a friends Honda 600 Shadow, IIRC. Nice, balanced bike. I would buy a used Japanese bike until you know what you want and are comfortable with it. If your going to dump a buke, better to dump a 2K bike than a 20K bike. Derek, the chaplain of our sons boy scout troup is the finance guy at the local Harley dealer, AD Farrow, which has been around since 1911 IIRC. Anyways, lots of people spend lots of $ on a fancy bike and never ride it because they are uncomfortable with it. Been thinking I wouldn't mind a 1200 Sportster myself, even though I am a good sized guy. Just like the looks of them. And the Harley V Rod is a work of art IMHO.
