It looks better than the new big Toyota truck which is too bland and oddly proportioned. I like the chrome and door trim and muscular truck look and I think it will do well.

I really wouldn't be surprised to see this car stand as it is even for 2008 model year with the same 3800 and 4 speed automatic tranny. When it switches to the new platform it will likely get the new tranny and engines. What would be the point redesigning this car for a new tranny and engine when the current chassis' days are numbered.

Droping the Monte Carlo would be a mistake in my eyes as some folks out there do still want a personal luxury coupe with a dash of sport. The current Monte could have been done much better than it was and it seems Chevy is slowly killing it off with less engine options and trim levels. Hopefully they keep the Monte Carlo name and pin it on a nice RWD coupe with retro cues, nice lines, some exterior trim, a chrome grille and a much better interior than the current car has. Also bring back swivel bucket seats and some interior colors like white, blue or maroon.

Now all they have to do is tack on a better looking exterior, less tacky front end and some exterior trim to make it look less bland and maybe they will get somewhere.
-
Now it shares the same steering wheel with the DTS, Lucerne and Impala/Monte Carlo.

This is the new Malibu that had designers all excited. Quite sad indeed! It looks like they took a Saturn Aura, gave it the Camry bland side treatment and stuck a silly looking new Chevy type front on it. Totally dull, unoriginal and bland. Looks way too much like an Asian car to even interest me in the least. Looks like Chevy STILL hasn't learned that copying a Camry isn't going to win over sales.

What does SC stand for: Super Corny!

Pontiac had a great opportunity with the redesigned G-body for 2006 to make a nice updated distinctive Bonneville with class leading 6 speed automatic transmission, higher output 3.6 DOHC V6, 320 hp version of the Northstar and Pontiac styling and sport thrown in. In there cheapness and total desire to kill off the brand completely wasted this opportunity to make a stand out Avalon/Azera killer. The G5 is a joke with a dumb name. The G6 could have been a lot better and should have had at least the coupe introduce with the sedan. The Vibe is a Toyota! The Grand Prix, in name only, was a half baked effert, dropping the Trans Am completely was utter stupidity and the GTO was a lame duck from the get go! Honestly I don't think GM has a clue what to do with this division anymore.

Yikes that is way to close for comfort!

Looks too similar to the Saturn but at least it looks a lot better than the weak, generic Ford Edge or any of Japans latest offerings.

It was one of those asian brands that I never cared. This would be even better news if it was Toyota, maker of the worlds ugliest vehicles!
-
Agreed! And they better not make one of these into a Buick with those dull looking doors with no protection and fenders that are rather blah looking. Getting so sick and tired of cars with all the same look! They all have the same bland side look with no door molding or character line. They all have the same stance. They all have the same dull boring interior colors of depressing gray, bland tan and black. I sure hope these cars aren't what GM has in store for the so called stunning new 09 Impala and 08 Malibu. If so they are in trouble.

Does anybody take that moron seriously? In all fairness though, GM should be finding ways to improve cars like the Aveo, Cobalt, Malibu and some others on mileage. I mean it's pretty embaressing that the Malibu now only gets 32 highway with the 2.2 liter L4 when in the past it was rated at 34-35 and that 32 rating is the same as the V6 model! The Cobalt needs an engine that will get 40 highway like the Corolla. And there is no excuse ever why a penalty box like the Aveo can't eke out 40 plus highway ratings with a tiny little engine and a tiny little car with very light weight. The Lucerne is a dissapointment at 19/28 when older versions of this car were rated at 30 highway. The 3900 is even worse and it's DOD version still can't match an old 3800's 30 highway rating. Of course a lot of this is due to outdated transmissions being used in cars that weight considerably more than there predecessors.

All hail the overlord Toyota! The lord and master that takes care of us all and can do no wrong. All hail Toyota, the creater of Misspiggie Camrys and ladybug slug Yaris's and boxes with lawnmower engine xB's and Avalons that have more bugs than an apple tree. All HAil!!!!!!!!

Was hoping Caddy was going to do something to spice up the rather dull looking exterior of the vehicle. Maybe next year. The change in axle ratio to improve economy for the V6 is a good idea as people buying the V6 aren't buying it for max performance.
-
Don't be fooled. My buddy works for a big company and drives a 2006 Impala 3LT with the 3900 and averages 24-25 mpg. He got his hands on an SS Impala with it's V8 and did the exact same type of driving with close to the same break in miles and averaged 18-20 mpg. To get that 28 rating you would probably have to drive at 55 mph on the nose on a perfecty straight highway with a tail wind in DOD mode. The V6 is still going to be more effiecient in everyday driving.

Just one more reason why I prefer it to the Blandalon.

Some words of wisdom to Pontiac: 1) Quit trying to be BMW 2) Come up with your own styling and let the Asians make the dull boring toasters 3) Quit calling everything a "G" something 4) Drop the 3800/4 speed automatic like now 5) Come up with interior colors other than tan and black 6) Make your products distinctively Pontiac 7) Keep the Grand Prix name Call your new RWD full size a Bonneville or Tempest 9) Make the Pursuit more distinctive and give it a different interior and a GTP version with the 260 hp 2.0 liter turbo 10) Don't copy the Asians with cars that all look alike from the sides with no trim, moldings or character lines 11) Bring back the Firebird with Pontiac cues and engines 12) Make a nice little V6 available for the Solstice such as the 2.8 13) Get those 6 speed automatics out now! 14) Bring back a Grand Prix coupe
-
Now if they could come up with optional 3.6 engine for around $495.00, I would be much happier. Also an dark blue interior like the Devilles is a must for this car!
-
It's also the company that will stop at nothing for the top spot, makes the blandest, ugliest and most "non car guy" boring designs on the planet too.
-
It blows my mind that this couldn't have been introduced for MY 2007. What is the delay? I mean it's not as if GM is creating the 5.3 and 4T65 from scratch. It's already been in the 2005 GXP and 2006 GXP and Impala/Monte. GM is going to be late to it's own funeral for goodness sakes!
-
The question is, does it look better than ours and utilise all of it's transmission gears?
-
Overall this is a fine vehicle but hopefully certain things make it to production and some don't. Black steering wheels, center stacks and upper dash panals do not belong on a Buick. The exterior doors are unprotected, unlike most of Buicks current lineup which can turn into a real annoyance when those dents start showing up. I hope the port holes make it and the rest of the interior looks great. Would take very little to make this thing rock!

The 3800 seems to get by in the base CX versions with crusty bench seats and all but the upper level CXL V6 should be mandatory with the 3.6 DOHC engine.
