  1. I would expect the 3800 to remain the base engine in MY 2008 Lucerne, LaCrosse and Grand Prix. After that any remaining vehicles that used this engine will get stock piled 3800's for a brief hiatus until the new Zetas come online as early 2010 models. I would put money on this! The plant that makes the 3800's will cease sometime during 2008 which means that it would easy for GM to stockpile a certain number of these engines for 2009 models until 2010's arrive in early 2009. It's anybodys guess what will happen after this point.
  2. Their is no reason in the world that the base 2.2 Ecotec with the mileage friendly 3.63:1 final drive should be rated at only 24/32 in the smaller lighter Cobalt when this same engine and 3.91:1 gears was rated at 24/35 in the bigger Malibu and 23/34 in the bigger/heavier G6 in larger 2.4 displacement. I just don't understand how they derive these figures.
  3. Yet another BMW knockoff at least from the side view.
  4. The interior has always been the achilles heel to the 04 and up Grand Prix design. The front seats are too hard and over bolstered. The roof is too low. Rear seat legroom is bad. The rear seatback feels like sitting on a park bench! The rear seat cup holders are an obvious after thought, their is no rear center fold down armrest, a passenger side overhead assist grip is absent yet the back seat driver gets one. The interior of this car needs a total rethink. Hopefully Pontiac doesn't kill off one of there last good names with another stupid alphanumeric one.
  5. The CXL Lucerne is anything but rental car territory.
  6. It blows my mind that this thing weights as much as a V8 Lucerne and has a detuned 3900 with 227 hp while the 3500 keeps the same power ratings as everything else. How does GM always manage to take one step forward and two steps back?
  7. It looks as though the value leader has gone up $735.00 compared to last years model. It also loses one mpg highway. The base 3500 V6 drops to 20/29 mpg and other than the new plastic wheels looks the same as last years model. Can't wait to see the 3.6 in the GTP model.
  8. 1) Interior colors other than boring gray, charcoal or tan 2) Something to break up the doors like a nice bodyside molding with a chrome insert 3) A nice dash that isn't a huge hunk of plastic with nothing to break up it, ala Impala/Lucerne 4) Bluetooth and navigation for the kids 5) 20/30 mpg ratings
  9. This car looks so much better than the Dull Camry with it's boring monotone plain sided look. The chrome and trim really help and the front and rear appearance are vastly superior.
  10. " A fresher looking Camry"!!! I all but fell over when I read this. This dude doesn't have a clue when it comes to styling.

    Spied??

I like the previous version better. This one is too generic and dull looking.
  12. Another underwhelming Toyota. I don't need to go 60 mph steady on a highway trip to get my 30 mpg rating in my 02 Intrigue. I know several people with Impalas who are easily obtaining 32 or more on the open road with the 3400 and 3500 V6's and they paid thousands less than this Mazda rip off with fat bloated styling and no trunk space. This car is indeed better than the Prius but thats not saying much.
  13. I think modern car designers are running out of ideas. Most everything that has been introduced lately has been a rehash of this or a look alike that or retro mixed with modern. Like the acting and movie industry, the automotive scene hase pretty much dried up on new ideas.
  14. Nice to see the GXP priced so reasonably. Hopefully it comes with a few more amenities than the regular Solstice. Now all GM has to do it keep it up to date.
  15. My local dealer just got in some 2007 G6's with window stickers and mileage ratings. No prices yet but give it another week or so. There were 3 new base sedans with 3500 VVT V6 and 3.05:1 ratio, one base 2.4 Ecotec sedan and one GT convertible with 3900. Sadly all the mileage ratings have gone down. 2.4 models are now rated at 23/33 3500 VVT base now rated at 20/29 3900 convertible automatic 18/26 Compare to 2006 versions 2.4 23/34 3500 22/32 3900 models with automatic 19/26 Also the convertible loses it's bodyside protective molding which I think is stupid! If the base 3500 models are only rated at 20/29 with the 3.05 gears what is the GT with 3.29:1 gears going to get? Why does the 3500 version lose 3 mpg highway with the switch to hydraulic steering and VVT but the Malibu Max with the same motor and 3.29:1 gears only drops by one from 30 to 29? GM's old press release said that electric steering saved less than one mpg. I honestly think the EPA is on crack when they test these cars and the 08 revisions can't come soon enough
  16. I saw an 07 convertible the other day at my local dealer and was sad to see GM at there usual cost cutting and mileage decreases. The 07 convertible was rated at 18/26 instead of 19/26 with the 3900 automatic and the bodyside door moldings have been eliminated! Way to go Pontiac!

    ....

    Don't like the hood!
  18. One of the better looking new cars along with the new Camaro concept. Hope they build it.
  19. Now all they have to do is include an anti-fall asleep button for it's totally dull, boring exterior!
  20. The repair shops are going to be clogged with these cars in a few more years when they are out of warrenty and all the gadgets start to fail as they inevitably will. All it takes is a faulty or dirty sensor to totally disable all these devices. My next vehicle is going to be without ABS. Every ABS car I have owned has cost rediculous amounts of money to keep working and I never have liked the fact that you can't shut it off in most makes. Until a manufacturer comes up with an off button for ABS I will never buy it again!
  21. Oh brother! So that means 2 more years of underpowered 3800's and gas guzzling Northstars and 1983 designed 4 speed automatics. And before everyone chimes in with "the 6 speed will be available soon or the 3800 is done after 2006" just realize this is GM we are talking about here. When they design a car and put 2 engines in it and a tranny it takes a major refresh or an all new body to change and recertify new engines and trannys. And oh look, my theory is confirmed. The 2007 Lucernes are going to have the identical engines and trannys to the 06's. Very discouraging!
  22. The 3800 would have been somewhat acceptable in the base CX model only with it's 1995 power levels of 205 hp and 230 torque and 3.05:1 gears as used in the previous Park Aves with the base engine and Lesabres with the optional touring suspension. But the more expensive CXL V6 versions need a better more refined and powerful motor such as the 3.6. The fact that GM somehow managed to lose 8 hp and 3 lbs ft of torque in a newer series III engine is totally embarrasing to start with considering it puts out 200 hp and 230 torque in the smaller, cheaper LaCrosse and GP but to add insult to injury they made it the only V6 available in their top of the line car with only 2.86:1 gears available in a car that weights considerably more than the old LeSabre. What in the world were they thinking? And why does the V8 get such piss poor mileage? Any previous Devilles which are even heavier than the Lucerne that had the same 275 hp Northstar and 3.11:1 gears were rated at 27 highway and got it too! GM's mileage figures have gone down noticeably the past couple of years. Both of the Lucernes engines need a lot of work along with the outdated tranny. And why can't Buick make the CXL models with the same suspension as the CXS but with the smaller 17" tires?
  23. Amen to that! Those are an eyesore and cluttering up the highways although I could say the same for several other newly introduced Toyotas.
  24. Other than the good old Caravan, there isn't really a Chrysler product that I would consider. Most of there products look chunky, get worse mileage than competitors and all of there trucks are heavy and slow except the Hemi models which are just big and burely. The Stratus/Sebring are the only normal looking cars left with the Neon going away but are aged and I never cared for the squished window 300C/Magnum. This is another company loaded with too many SUV's and trucks and few good car choices.
  25. They can get rid of the mouse fur to a degree. I wouldn't want to see the same terrible material that goes in the Malibu/G6/Equinox/Torrent and many other vehicles go in a Buick. They already tried that in the first run of 2004 LeSabres and failed misarably. So many people complained that Buick reinstated the old 00-03 cloth material. That new synthetic crap is like velchro. Very rough to the touch, attracts lint like crazy and tough to clean. Plus it just makes the interior feel that much more austere and cheap. When I think of Buick, I think of luxurious materials that are elegant and soft to the touch. The cloth material in the LaCrosse is ok in it'self. It's the way too light colors and plainness of the look that bothers me. Buick would be smart to incorporate the Lucernes material and make it a tad darker and offer blue and some more interesting color options other than put you to sleep gray or boring tan.
