Dr. Olds, I am very sorry to hear about your mother. Some of us are at the age where we begin to worry about our parents. Please take care.

Got to drive a 2016 Encore this morning. I dropped my truck off at our GM store for annual safety inspection, and the service manager asked me to drive the Encore to our shop to loan to a customer. Nice driving vehicle altogether... except the front end drops completely out of sight, I am not sure I like that aspect.

I don't like hearing this kind of thing. If any more details surface, please let us know.

Tesla offers free towing for up to 500 miles in N.A.
ocnblu replied to Cmicasa the Great's topic in Tesla
I am just going to say this... again. I would run my house on solar energy if I could afford it. I love nature and the environment. I also know that ICE vehicles are cleaner than they've ever been. I HAVE NO FEAR of electric vehicles... how in the world can anyone say I fear them if they've read my posts? They are just not practical for the vast majority of drivers. They do not meet needs. We have hundreds of years of oil in the ground. To quote a wise person... if it ain't broke, don't fix it. I'm an auto enthusiast. I love the mechanical aspects of vehicles... the noises, the soul of an engine running. Electrics offer nothing that I wish for. Fear is far from what I feel about them. I feel nothing but disdain for electrics, and what they take away from the driving experience. There are simply too many compromises involved in electric vehicle ownership. They limit freedom. I guarantee you, when a new administration moves into Washington, DC, there will be different priorities moved to the forefront, no matter the party the new president represents. CAFE needs to be repealed. All it does is limit choice... that is literally all it does. I work for a living. I pay my beels, yo. I do not want to be told what to spend my money on... because I WORKED FOR IT. -

People on the west coast are living in their own alternate reality. The huge vast majority of the country lives in the real world. -
Well, I have my new wheels/tires on, and my wheel flares. Got him a tri-fold soft tonneau cover, too. Still waiting for my black bowties, color matched grille, and black Trail Boss wheel center caps. Last thing I want to do is change the color of the 4X4 decals. Still debating a de-badge operation. Then he'll be ready for his close-up.

Shirley you're joking, RIGHT?

Tesla offers free towing for up to 500 miles in N.A.
ocnblu replied to Cmicasa the Great's topic in Tesla
If road-tripping at the absolute drop of a hat is a priority, maybe Tesla's not for you. Otherwise if you can spare five minutes out of your busy schedule on Google Maps and Tesla's website, you can plot out supercharger locations as well as nearby businesses and eateries that'd appreciate your half hour of patronage. But based on your 'road trip arguments,' you appear to always be in a super rush and your time is super-duper important and you haven't a moment at all to spare and your destination expects you immediately and your schedule is incredibly time sensitive. So Tesla isn't for a road warrin', wheelin'-dealin', pedal-to-the-metal, workin' overtime'n, string-pullin', mover-and-shaker like yourself. That was beautifully said! Thanks, Olds! -
CHEVROLET and GMC INTRODUCE 2016 SILVERADO/SIERRA WITH EASSIST
ocnblu replied to Cmicasa the Great's topic in Chevrolet
Are you sure you're not looking at figures for a 2WD/4WD though? On the EPA website, you have to select 2WD or 4WD before it shows any ratings. Go look for yourself before assuming I missed something obvious! OK thanks! -

It's so awesome though that this thread has taken a high-oval turn away from the original, rather ho-hum subject.

Fear mongering in this thread made it into a range anxiety thing...even a reliability thing...FAP TURBO has got the right idea... But..when humanity has no knowledge of something, humanity fears it, ridicules it and is biased against it. And yes SMK...when people are pressed for time, and in today's society, it seems that they are always pressed for time...people hardly drive long distances anymore, the take the airplane... And if they must drive for whatever reason, people actually rent cars...in other words, people hardly ever use their personal vehicles for long distance traveling anymore...but...it makes for a more interesting thread to whine and complain... This is the latest whine fest at Cheers and Gears....be sure to turn in tomorrow...as these are the days of our lives at Cheers and Gears. That is how the world turns, at Cheers and Gears. So you're saying I should spend something like a minimum of $80k on a Model S, but if I want to go on a road trip of any distance, I should spend more money to rent a gas powered car SO I CAN TRAVEL AT MY OWN WHIM? Very sound reasoning there. Holds the Tesla up as an $80k toy that has to be put away when shit gets real. No whining here. -

The most beautiful part of all this is Tesla will send a diesel fuel powered tow truck 500 miles to pick up a dead, stranded, battery powered joke. -
Exactly. Low gas prices will only reinforce what I've been saying. People will buy what they truly want when there are no artificial obstructions. A pickup truck, big SUV or substantial, powerful car, without the rigid compromises of electrification, are just naturally more comfortable vehicles to ride in and drive. And these stupid CAFE rules are completely counter intuitive to that. If a few people want to drive an Ioniq or Volt, let them... but do not FORCE this ideology on people... it will not work!

Geneva Motor Show: Hyundai Ioniq: Comments
ocnblu replied to William Maley's topic in Geneva International Motor Show
Stylewise to me, it is a nicer version of the previous Prius. It might hit a sweet spot for huggers who cannot glom onto the truly bizarre, alien new Prius. I do not like the blank face of the full electric model, reminds me of a Tesla in that way... blank, barren and worthless. I think the interior looks good, better than Prius.- 7 replies

These "groups" DO NOT SPEAK FOR THE PEOPLE. It has been shown to be true again and again over the decades. "Green targets" are never met because THE PEOPLE want something that WORKS!

I think the downvote was willy-nilly, especially since you agree with at least part of my comment.

Uh... because spending money on developing electrics is not a sound investment from a sales standpoint, especially as a replacement for the long-beloved TDi. The U.S. government has no business getting involved in dictating automaker product plans... especially a foreign automaker. This is unconscionable.

GM/Buick pondering 4 Door Coupe Based On The Avista!
ocnblu replied to oldshurst442's topic in Buick
I do like the ATS... but this Buick has more STYLE... and that is the name of the game in high-end cars. The Avista is represented as having the twin-turbo V6 that's in the ATS-V. All else being equal, the Buick is the better looking car. -
A horrible plan that puts Volkswagen in further peril. Everybody loves the TDi... nobody wants electrics. Government should butt out.

GM/Buick pondering 4 Door Coupe Based On The Avista!
ocnblu replied to oldshurst442's topic in Buick
Would be fantastic if it happens... however, I also need a true 2-door coupe to be available as well in addition to the SEDAN. -
Judging by the time lapse, I'm guessing you could not find it.
