Well with GT500's bringing 1/4 of a million Id say a new Enzo is worth four These car are not nor have they ever been built to sell to we common smucks, learn it, accept it and deal with it. Somewhere around there is a rule amounst hotrodders of what it costs to build engines & their cars to shave off seconds in just a quarter mile...............its alot of money. These exotic cars shave off seconds in corner speeds, braking speeds as well as acceleration..........you know they are real cars that can handle what the road throws at them............not the case with a tubbed and blown Chevelle at $XXXXXX.XX. Anyone know what people spend to have professionals do a total quality restoration on your typical dream car ? That is exactly what you need to do if you want to compare a classic domestic to a brand new exotic and when your done you will not have 1/10 of the car in total road able prowess. These exotics are made for people that can afford the race proven technology and ultra performance parts and materials they are made out of, then there is far more time put into assembly, more like the time into a restoration. The people that buy these cars are very sucessful and want the ultimate auto, money is no issue and they dont want to see one on every street corner ("oh look its another Stang ") There is waiting lists for these cars, sold before the pieces are even built...................so I just dont see the problem. Thanks goodness for Luigi Chinetti and the 49 166MM

Theres gotta be a better way to hold it than a cam lever clamp. Its not handy at all and if you were not to force it all the way "home" this steering wheel is a handful loose and flooping around while in motion. Not so with the old quick release style, though I always thought the spring that lifts the wheel was a bit too much. I'd be OK with the clamp for the tele and old style tilt, just because I really do need to raise wheel everytime I get in and out. Corvettes electronic adjustments are very nice but thats not a 23,000 $ car. On my old Alpine you turned the center cap on the steering wheel for tele, that took a few turns but it was handy, this lever is in a hidden/must reach for location and like I said it requires a bit of force. I just think it wasnt thought out enough, probably not a problem for smaller yet agile people but my long ageing legs like some room for entry/exit. Entry/exit is very good for this car BTW, just not with how I place the wheel down low...........just spoiled thats all.

Did'nt someone just recently say something about "overhangs" ? Theres our newly aquired modern proportions and design trends. Why did a 75 Delta 88 have a larger trunk than a Datsun 710 ? Ah cause it was larger ? dut da da Our antiquated 25 mpg 334,000 mile 3800 powered Regency only has a 16.4 cu.ft. trunk, theres always room for many more bags after our bi weekly shopping trip.....................but those damn proportions and that large soft velour rear seat............aint progress great OK listen people..........this is why Mother always said "look both ways before you cross the road " "how many times do I have to tell you? "

So why do we have both a 240 & 227 HP spec for the 3900 ?

I've spent years visiting various forums that catered to 3.8 powered FWD BOP products. The LeSabre T-type forum, the Bonneville forum as well as A & W body forums. A few requests, complaints or desires by various members have always seemed to be consistent...... the availability of a standard transmission on the more powerful V6 FWD offerings, lack of 2 dr coupes, more gears and exciting styling. Well the G6 GTP coupe shows someone was listening. One ivory GTP coupe showed up at our local GM dealer and my gal fell right in love with it. So the search began, we looked at red ones, green ones, silver ones, black ones, base coupes, black leather, morocco, and black cloth .........so spill the wine take that girl. We purchased the white GTP, this particular car was the near perfect package for us. I say near because had a white GTP with taupe/brown leather been anywhere around we would have opt for the leather which also comes with the stereo steering wheel controls. The only taupe leather cars in this area were rectractables and they were outside of our budget, otherwise we would have considered. Problem is at 30,000+ the retractable has stiff competition on the very same Pontiac lot, the GP GXP and the GTO.....except for the styling thing this choice would be a no brainer for me. Our car has everything else we wanted. Sun roof and 18" ultra bright wheels were the only options so the price was very attractive and even after looking at an electric blue/morocco interior I myself prefered the Ivory/taupe. Now we have XM, we would never opt for a 6 CD changer given the choise and heated seats are not that important to us. We settled on this car with the impression taupe cloth, it has a great look against the remaining black interior pieces. This car also has the plood trim on door handles which adds even more contrast and character. The black interior cars with the silver or grey plastic trim were just that..........black, dismal, dull and baron. Had a light colored interior car with "plood" not been available I would have passed. We picked it up last Saturday and hit the road for a 150 mile Catskill Mountain drive. Now I am no one to truely give a good comparision test review because I have a few things going against me. For one I only consider GM's though we did take a good look at Fords, VW's and Hondas but we left the Toyota lot unexcited and ran from the ugly things sitting on the Nissan lot. The second thing going against me is at one time I did actually own a true sports car, as nice as the GTP handles and holds, is modern and powerful, though it looks the part its not a true sports car, I suppose or at least hope that is territory the Solstice covers. Third thing going against me is I have been driving heavy trucks and land yahts for a decade. Steering on the GTP is much faster than I have driven in years so I have a learning curve as I always seemed to begin turning or comming out of corner sooner than necessary for this car. It does handle great but the driver was not carving his lines very accurately. Road feel is excellent but the driver has become numb from years of luxury barges. The ride is good and firm and its so nice to not be floating on the dips and rolls of our country roads but I have noticed a few bumps I never knew existed So until I learn the car I can give no further details on the excitement factor but Im optimistic as to what the car can do and the wife loves it, it is technically "hers". So alls well in paradise. What I'll do instead is critisize where I feel GM slacked on this car and this performance version of this car. For one the GTP has the same suspension as the GT, the only difference is the stability control. What little I pushed the car I felt it could use even tighter front springs and larger sway bars. As usual for GM they met the compromise they felt necessary for the typical driver..........but the GTP is the performance car and I would think potential buyers would expect a firmer ride and to have less front tilt in hard cornering. Its not bad mind you but I would want stiffer for the serious stuff.......but who drives like that anyhow ? The steering wheel adjustment lock really has me agro. GM had a nice little spring return lever for decades. You simply needed to pull it toward you, pick your position and let it go. Now with this "new" lever you need to force it down, position wheel and force it back up as it is nothing more than a camlock clamp...........bah ! I figure this has something to do with the added telescoping feature, still no excuse. I always drive with wheel down low and release it upward for getting in and out. With this new method it seems like an excercise program. Now for the telescoping feature. Thank goodness it telescopes, who would drive with the wheel in I do not know, it would surely be straight arm driving for me. I must pull it all the way out to get anywhere near close to the arm, hand, body position Im used to. I want to be able to fully grip a steering wheel with either one of my elbows comfortably rested on the arm rests. Not possible with this car. With my arms rested on rests all that reaches the wheel is my finger tips. Im sure this has something to do with air bags and distance needed from chest to make them effective.........well to hell with them damn air bags, I want to be fully comfortable when Im driving. On a positive note the three spoke steering wheel is a vast improvement in hand comfort compared to the four spoke finger slalom in our 97 LSS but neither offer the hastle free effortless, comfortable relaxed driving position of the old non air bag, properly placed two spoke wheels of the glorious past. Six speed & drivetrain - This 3900 engine is a totally different powerband from the old 3800. Increasing speed from the 3900 at lower RPMs aint gonna happen by simply pushing just a little bit on the pedal. I know the specs dont show it but the 3800 is truely a torque monster compared to this 3900. With the 3900 you need to be in the right gear and upwards toward 3000 RPMs to get strong positive pull. In its powerband it comes to life quite nicely, but as with other things its much different from what Ive been used to for years. Six speed is great fun, short throw and easy to shift. However the shifter has that crunch crunch feel typical of all "linkage" shifters. I have been spoiled by transmissions where the shifter is direct into the transmissions and shifting is a click click instead of the seemingly reluctant crunch crunch. Now thats nit picking. Centerstack controls are easily reached and non complicated, I like it. Upon looking it over and thinking of all the negitive comments about GMs center stacks on this forum I decided the stack is fine on this car, looks great sitting inside the car, something photos fail to comunicate. However I believe the problem is how the console meets the bottom of the stack in a less than craftmans like way. I would like to find some "plood" to replace the black plastic piece surrounding the stereo and DIC. Console armrest should be 2-4 inches longer, cup holes are..............cup holes and dictate this little short armrest.........yea Id redo the console. No wind noise as some car rag seemed to have needed to make great acclaim to..........I did notice with the windows down and sun roof open we had "wind noise".......... felt like my hair was moving around too......and maybe a breeze on my face..........whats up with that............ Well thats the nit picking and we do love the car, now I just need to get to know it a little better and I plan on it. More then.

Yea if GM had only kept building those A/G and B/C body, big block, body on frame monsters for 2 more decades just think where they would be today................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

Michael Jackson Cher Manilow Denver Grew up with a diet of these performers, they were always on TV, good or bad with the times or overly "pop" there is still no denying their talent or cultural influence

What happened to Steve Perry ? How can you have Journey without Steve Perry ? Actually Neal Schon did the singing on Journeys first album and it was great. I have always liked his voice and the contrast with Perry was great.....now I finally realised after all these years that Neal Schon was the vocalist on Black Majic Woman. The song......whatever the title was ??? "When the lights go out in the city" I always liked alot, had the contrasting vocals and great double stop flowing guitar. Journeys music was overplayed but that is the fate of the sounds of those special bands in their given eras that have the girls calling in to hear it "one more time" four times an hour . BTW - Deep Purples latest - Rapture of the Deep is pretty darn good listening for old hard rockers if "pop typical" is NOT what floats yer boat. Ive been a Steve Morse fan since Dixie Dregs in the mid 70's and he does the Purple thing rightous...............Dude !

My poor old 3800 91 Regal Limited . Fit like me old bluejeans. Ill always miss that car. Having owned both, the W was considerably smaller than the C/H body than one would think. 200-300+ lbs lighter as well. Tight under hood, smaller trunk. Rear seat of C/H body has ample room. W body is more of a personal car that also has a rear seat just incase. W body still maintained the quality feel of the larger H/C where as the smaller A's or J's or whatever gave the budget car feel.

CBS is covering ALMS this year not Speed, same with F1 race. Sunday afternoons usually. We got to record the same race we witnessed last Sat. on Sunday when CBS aired it.

Well no crap! Everyone that goes to work goes to make money. Who the heck gets out of bed in the morning to go do some greedy wimps dirty work for them as a favor? If these corporate leaders cant earn enough money with their present company I suggest they go work elsewhere and quit blaming their shortfall on others. What a bunch of crybabies ! Unions only lead by following the tactics already set forth in this country by corporate and government leaders (lawmakers ?). Thugs come in all dress codes...........get a clue

Today red and sweet I prefer the Astons to Maserati but they are exotics I'd go for the Germans, VW, Audi that is, I'm partial to VW from owning a few and Audi is quite advanced in racing, this new TDI diesel is very promising excluding the 350Z twins all Nissans look like ass gone bad and they are proving nothing on the track either that I have seen. We looked at the 350's but didnt even bother walking over to check out the various colored blobs that soured the otherwise splendid view of the VW, Porsche, Audi dealership on the other side of the road.

All GTP's will probably be gone by Monday when we are going, oh well, I most likely cant get what Im willing to accept on trade for the LSS anyhow. If all goes well however we will be taking advantage of this offer.

Sorry, might as well shut off the lights as far as Im concerned, any merger would no longer be GM it would be a mongrel, a mime pretending to be something that it is not. GM has technologies, American has the resources and talent, however its been too busy packing the overfull pockets of the likes of the Smiths and Wagoners to invest in the R&D or balking on R&D or progressive ideas that had potential.........but then pinching pennys had afforded such short term capitolism for those important people............all worth it in the end.......no doubt.........
-
Very good ideas..........both of them should be used GM's TV commercials used for Pontiac and most others are pathatic, as usual selling the deal instead of the product.......or just plain cheezzzzzzzzzy..... "I love you......I love you" ????????????????????????? whos running the show there GM ? You have no artistic creativity and neither does your help! The competition has you from "hello".
-
yes indeed, we have looked at 3 of these now, all were red and all had "sold" tags laying on the dash................ out of our price range.........too bad for us, otherwise I would not hesitate seems GTO, G6 retractable and GP GXP all come in around $32,000, a hard choice but if styling wasnt so "old" on the GTO it would be hard not to go for the best performer. GTO should be agressive and edgy looking like the G6 coupe. G6 coupe is the best looking, new, modern, non exotic (affordable), coupe on the market today........in my opinion..........that is..........ignoring the 350Z Congrats !

First for anyone that does not know this... in LeMans series there are 4 classes running the track at the same time. It goes like this Prototypes LMP1 LMP2 GT cars GT1 this would be race versions of your production super cars like C6, Aston, Saleen, large Ferraris, Lamborghini and Maserati GT2 Porsches, small Ferraris, Panoz, BMW Well Aston 009 won today with the #3 Corvette taking second in GT1, 007 Aston 3rd. These two teams really go at it and today was exception. The #4 Corvette that just won Lemans 24 had a good crash and went in for repairs and lost many laps but #3 was up tip and tail with both Astons all day. At one point both a Aston and C6 went around at end of main straight when Corvette stuck its nose inside going into "Big Bend" both spun around and got right back on track. Let me tell ya, its much different watching live than on TV, seeing them jaming down that straight and packing 3 or 4 cars into that hard right with everyone trying to late brake the other is hairraising, lots of respect for these drivers. One problem with "live" is not knowing whos driving and all thats going on but the atmosphere of the sences is a rush..........at least for this old road race freak The LMP2 yellow Penske Porsche Spyders are insane and there is no mistaking the sound which was also the loudest. Now with this new Porsche Spyder the LMP2 cars are as fast as LMP1 cars. The Audi R8 won LMP1 as it has since 2000 and is a smooth quite car, this was its last race of one great 6 year career. From here on the new TDI (diesel) R10 that won Lemans and set records will be next Audi to beat or get stomped by (the latter). Sounds The Aston Martins are "The Ripper" its a radical V12 sound and quite stimulating The Corvettes bellor like "Blue" the Ox and its a very pleasing and tuned sound The Panoz, the other big American V8 bellors like an old Ford pickup that the exhaust has fallen off from........not pleasing and LOUD.......like shut up already......a Panoz did win GT2 at LeMans 24 hours BTW, so its not all bark The BMW ? M5 ? GT2 car rips along with a high RPM sizzle The Porsche GT cars have a suprisingly deeper sound more in tone with a V8 than the ripping sizzle the Aston & BMW have. I was disappointed that there was no Saleen, nor Maserati nor Lambroghini in GT1 and the few Ferraris were in GT2 class. Last years Maserati was showing hope but I dont think they are running this year. If you like motorsports and there is a road course anywhere near home take a day sometime and witness the insanity of hard braking, downshifting, corner packing lateral G's turned to neck snapping ear poping excelleration that we putt putters only dream about. Cheers ! http://www.americanlemans.com/News/Article.aspx?ID=2209

seems to me GM needs to engineer a DOHC V8 that is not a mechanical liability, something that can have simple repairs done without pulling the drivetrain out of the car first, then stripping threads, then requireing "tread kits". N* is over ten years old now and this short fall is well known, not good for residual values, not good for reputation and we have seen the results of the reputation thing I still favor my idea of a new V8 in even smaller displacements w/DOD and forgetting the V6 altogether........why fight nature
-
you are accurate and this one is over twenty years running..........fire and wind.... next car will be video protected

Well one month before final payment on the LSS, "someone" decided to key the LSS..............one month later they keyed it again and threw something on the paint that made the color under the clearcoat darken..............really looks like $h!! . then a week later they decided to key it yet again and gas cap was off and hanging . yes I know who it is, it took awhile to figure out, its a past girlfriend with an axe to grind but shes out of control, known for crazy stunts........but I never expected this and no! I did not burn her, in fact I always considered her a great friend and am more hurt than angry . anyhow, forget all that, its time for something new I just wish I didnt loose all the remaining value of the car with a destroyed paint job, we did keep it really clean and sharp. . Looking hard at G6 GTP. Im wondering how to find out all available price incentives. There is currently a 0% interest going on which is good but I want to make sure Im not missing anything. The salesman says because of the interest offer even the discounts available through work are off. I just want to make sure, this would be my first new car purchase so I know nothing about these things. Thanks for any help

Pontiac Solstice Wins First-Ever SCCA Race at Lime
razoredge replied to Flybrian's topic in Heritage Marques
Gee, I dont understand.................I thought the press said the Miata had a better "track" feel.................wonder how the Miata owners "feel" ? Worse yet the Miata looks like a stone sitting next to a Solstice -
why you could be a car salesman

Yep ! Been there done that................and you ?

Didnt you hear ? Another huge hurricane just hit the Gulf Coast The sales tax alone on the purchase of a "new" more gas economic car would surely offset the added dollar per gallon since the last "hurricane" the price of gasoline rises in the winter due to "oil shortages" caused by heating demands...............therefore the price rises during the spring because the added solar heat from the brightening sun evaporates the pro..., ah, I mean the supply the people running our country have no connections what so ever with the oil industry while its obvious "oil" companies gouge profits..............Im sure the producers of "refined corn" would not get starchy everyone should ride the bus and trains because they do not rely on fossil fuels and would never raise their rates according to fuel prices or increased demand for seats if gasoline prices and wages kept up with inflation we would be paying $8.00 a gallon by now....................and annual minimum wages and wages for the working poor would be in excess of $40.000 per year............ rumor has it crude oil in the US will be gone within 8 years.................so GM!.......why bother ? Implode that sucker and stuff the profits into the pockets of the execs and stock holders The best thing to do is for everyone to just keep going like a bunch of zombie puppets because its easier and ..........what the hell..........it will be our kids problem not ours to the tug of the puppet masters
