  1. I really like the looks of this car and need to go see it again. Someday I want a photo of the Lucerne and Aurora face to face. This car makes the Accord "look like ass" Wonder what we can trade the LSS for ? yarite ! Wouldnt pay the sales tax. I didnt like the price, it was 32,+++ without sunroof, I think the LSS sold for 28,000 back in 97 and has sunroof, suspension and L67......now if only Luzerne had the 260/280 L32 mid option..........guys like this momo that writes for C&D would have yet another item to cry about ! In fact I think it is totally wrong that this engine in its last years is not an option for Buick, its not like they havent interfaced an L67 into a G body before, its seems like a no brainer to me and far better to make the transition into the 3.6HF. At 260/280 it would be more competitive with the latest Avalon motor too. But it wouldnt have any low down grunt! LOL
  2. Always glad to see a Centurian post and this one is the word.
  3. Look guys.....people live well in this country, it was a goal of this country for decades.....hell centuries ! "better quality of life". Im talking across the board here - white collar, blue collar, waitress or receptionist, air pilot or crane operater - we have fought for a better quality of life. Now we have the global economy and our operations can not keep up with the R&D dollars or material dollars of foreign held & labored companies. Now here we are ! Its TODAY and Today its biting us in the ass. Even now with GM seriously trying to make great strides in development and quality of hardware they still have a severe disadvantage.....they are an American company operating in America supporting the American way of life........not the Korean way of life, not the Japanese way of life, not the India way of life, the American way of life. So now..... here we are ! Its TODAY and Today its biting us in the ass. What are you going to do ?
  4. yep, what James said. there was 53, 71, 92 c.i. pistons/sleeves/rods and something huge in the 100's for commercial applications like generators, I just read about one two years ago, I never knew this large series existed. I think the one I read about was a 16V the 671 James mentioned is a 426 ci engine so the blower was perfect for big blocks. I dont know Detriots origion but as I knew it it was just a diesel engine division, I dont know what makes you say its "Chevy" ? I dont think its any more Chevy than GMC and they were a pretty busy division at one time, supplying diesels for everything from sawmills, generators, buses, trucks you name it. For years it was Detriot/Alison there was a 353 but no 3V53 the 2 stroke diesel died off because they just couldnt clean it up to meet polution standards, including noise and oil seepage. Tuff, simple, inexpensive, rugged and reliable but with less torque per hp than its larger displacement 4 stroke competition it was not a real favorite with drivers. The hp was there but not the hill pullin torque of the 4 strokes. My 671 has 640,000 miles on it.
  5. you guys screwed that word gay all up........now its been totally redefined ..........dang hicks Actually Ive been thinking about that again. I just heard some song in some old Turner classics musical where they were all dancing around on stage and singing and the word gay was predominate. I remember my grandmother used gay in its origionality all the time, she grew up in Jersey during the roarin twentys and remembered it well, it was her "glory days"..... you know when they all had a gay ol time. :AH-HA_wink: Is it alright that I use that "ol" ? Or was I butchering Webster ? Did Webster live in Appalacha ? Just wondering because I know we have crics, I's seen dem, wit me own eyes, I did. Im writin me a song, Ill be namin it Hics have crics I figure Im decendent of Celts and Romans and I can do what ever I damn well please with English. So what was that language the Irish had ? What did that resemble ? Then the Welch have a dialect and the Scotch.
  6. Buick and Pontiac is over a half a million combined isnt it ? I cant see choppin off limbs again. I think time and product improvement and development is the only answer. This new stuff needs time, not to stagnate but to get heads turning. That choppin......and then all the bleedin......it just gets ugly.
  7. :( that doesn make any sence to me. Do you do alot of WOT up through the gears ? I cant understand why you would have probelms at that many miles ? Well if you wanted it built anyhow I guess, what about LSD ? Im just glad I dont have to cough up for a rebuild. We have never had a tranny go........the one in my 90 Regency was rebuilt at high 200,000, it came with reciepts. At 110,000 the LSS still shifts as good as it did at 60,000 which was good, except for that torque management issue. We dont pound it much, though I did get a story just yesterday about two cars and one Explorer or similar, run three side by side on the interstate.......damn woman! She said that big vehical was fast and "he was crazy" She smokes cars all the time..... so I hear, I guess the guys like to mess with her. you'll need a cam to go with that cooler, the camshaft is actually a cheap modification if you could do the work yourself. I only dream.
  8. Wow ! I see this guy gave it his best enquirerian Shakespear try. atta BOY ! Anyone know weight of Lucerne ? I bet their getting heavy Dman that Northstar must just drop dead in its tracks just like a heart attack victom, ey ? Anyhow, Im taking my daughter to work yesterday and POP, there it is, the first Lucerne at our small dealership, not really small but they also sell Pontiac, Chevy, Chevy truck and GMC. Anyhow........ DAMN ! thats the best looking Buick since the 2 dr H body or the 95 Riviera if you prefer. CXL 38 in Red. It was even more interesting because then I drive right past a Bonne GXP in the parking lot, they do look much better cleaned up than "ribed". Anyhow dropped off my daughter and went back to look at this Lucerne. In real life its headlights do not look HUGE, you loose the 3D in a photo somewhat. The overall profile is aggressive and I just love the greenhouse. The baseball cap Buick roof is finally GONE ! looking through window at interior Im not a fan of course grainded pleather or leather it was a column shift, so no console to much glare to see anything well Still thinking back to the LSS or Auroras I dont think Im finding anything more appealing about this "new" way of doing interiors. Ill go do a test drive sometime soon. Ill have to go to the city to get a test of both the 38 and N*. Anyhow that new GM lineup looked good sitting there but I thought I could set them up better to get the heads turnin. They had a blue G6, yellow Cobalt coupe, that soft blue Lacrosse, two nice Maxx'z, this red Lucerne and more. But there was no method of the parking or display and they have the truck up front toward road and cars behind ....is it me ??? Still that Lucerne is a nicely carved car, I must drive and get all touchy with the wittle pwasic pieces.
  9. So how come she makes 20 + per hour.........when we just had all the blue collar haters claiming "the competition" only paid less than 10 ? I guess you guys didnt catch that part on the news when gorgie porgie went on his foreign trip that had something to do with international trade, they said whom ever the guy from Japan is was his "close" friend.
  10. Im wondering what happened at 1. Chrysler from 90-93 2. IBM 93-95 why hes not long term ? and if O'Neil had conflict of interests how can this guy not ?
  11. Glad you caught the highlights of that artical. What it says is simple - they bumped up production (employees)to meet demand awhile back and now they need to lower that some. Thats all its saying...........but....then they needed to go on with myths and legends. "pushrod engines and 4 sp automatics" yet its proven to runs with the competition Interiors bad.......then interiors good, seems there is not much to take seriously here. exterior styling ? I think its the best lookin car in this segment. botched launch ? does the rest of the competition have a coupe ? one more year of Grand Am's ? yikes, talk about "dated" ! Didnt we have one journalist that visits here, state that he thought the G6 sedan was a serious contender against its competition, while saying the GTP "felt" short even though it proved competitive in all fields ? SO it clearly appears to me that there is a bit to much "feel" going into this and not enough reality. BTW - lov the side sculpture and that front 1/4 shot under lateral G's, the coupes tailights are awsome and the sedan is the best looking mid size sedan
  12. I agree now how do we keep the corruption of the ivy leage UNION from turning it into a capitolistic nightmare.
  13. Until they bust a move and begin to get this infrastructure in place its a stalemate. I dont think every corner had a seven11 before they decided to release the gasoline automobile. In the mean time to me it seems foolish to spend fortunes on "hybrid" R&D. A gasoline engine to generate electricity to power an electric motor, that uses more fuel per mile than a VW diesel did 25 years ago. That is not progress. This word "hybrid" is appearing to be little more than a publicity stunt.
  14. Well, good for you !
  15. Well, good for you !
  16. The 3400 must have been quite nice in an Alero then ? I passed on a white 3400 two dr., forget the years but I passed on that an one Intrigue for the '99  It was some car though, just ran picular and moody.
  17. There is also some hybridized Hemp clone the could be used for paper fiber.
  18. The earliest teardowns I know of were a Jaguar and Mercedes SL during the developement of various early Corvettes.
  19. We have had a similar case with the "pellet stoves" and "corn" stoves. They need to run a factory using all sorts of electric and fuels to make these little pellets out of wood. In the mean time we had more potential fuel wood laying around rotting because the money was not worth the back breaking work to get it to customers. Then we lost customers to the pellet stoves, then once they had them they raised the price of pellets, then some of the people found they could not get the BTU needed that the wood stove they threw out could.......... Our corn farmers burn huge tanks of LP every drying season to get the stuff to the proper moisture content. This is a larger issue than the diesel fuel used to work the fields. Corn goes in and harvests quick. Im sure there are some less costly ways for much of the drying processes like intensified passive solar I see I must do some study on this "corn whiskey"
  20. 32  , no way ? our LSS only does 26-27 at 74-8? highway. Thats all I ever got from the 38 though I never checked the Regal, it was about 400 lb lighter than large H bodies. My wife has reported that she used less gas with the 97 LSS (L67) than the old 90 Regency with the older LN3-C engine. The power difference is great 75hp/? 70 ft lb ? the small displacements V8 with DOD would get excellent milage and are more easy to work with than V6. No fighting the balance issues, more ignitions per revolution
  21. Our 86 LeSabre Limited has the 3.0 in it. :AH-HA_wink: Was the standard engine in Lesabre in 86, 3.8 was optional. In 87 all H bodies had 3.8, the 3.0 went elsewhere, Skylark, GA, Century ?
  22. That sounds like "torque management" gone astray.
  23. correction : Did you want fish, did you ?....or shortened You want fish? did ya? you would find that that came right off the boat from Ireland, Scotland or England "so ya caught yur death of cold, did ya ?" "you need'nt be gettin your pantys all in a bunch there lass" see what I be gettin at ? does ya ?
  24. Oh BTW, way back years ago I worked with a guy that had what I thought was a southern accent..it wound up he was from Ohio. I found that interesting
  25. Whats "ebonics" Im assuming thats what they are calling street rap* ? *my term LA, you have some code of ethics there, hats off to ya B) Thats how I was raised. Its been downhill from there though I could care less how people talk, its how they act that I watch. If they need to swear away loudly in public to see if everyone will look at them, well we all know what they are. If someone is just talking and something slips out no big deal. then again Im labor force NYer so every other word must begin with an F....all words need an initial description but not in public or sociolizing...work is another story. If they talk like hillbillys I dont care, if they act like idiots I do care, unless Im in an idiot mood......then its OK. By 18 years ago my hillybilly slang had gotten so bad I actually had to start working on putting more effort into speaking again. I did have a daughter to raise and teach. Some of my comrades were even having problems understanding me, thats when I realized how blured my speach had become yur - Is universal, I see alot of terms used in other areas that are common here in Upstate NY too. Long live Appalacha ! Salt of the earth.......we speak American....Old American.
