WARREN, Mich. (January 18, 2006) -- Coming off a successful debut racing season where the Chevrolet Cobalt SS Supercharged entries challenged for the Manufacturer's Championship, Team Cobalt returns for its sophomore season with a trophy firmly in sight as the 2006 Grand-Am Cup season opens at Daytona International Speedway on Jan. 27. "The Cobalt SS Supercharged won three races and a pole positon in 2005, and we finished third in Manufacturer's Championship points," said Ken Wasmer, small car program engineering manager for the GM Performance Division, which provides engineering technical support for the Cobalt entrants. "We're pleased with our success, but for 2006, our sights are set much higher. This year we want to win the Manufacturer's Championship," Wasmer added. The 200-mile Grand-Am Cup race on Daytona's 3.56-mile combination infield road course and high-banked oval layout, will take the green flag on Friday, Jan. 27 at 2:15 p.m. EST. The Cobalts will compete in the newly re-named Sport Tuner class. full story http://www.grandamerican.com/News/Article.asp?ID=5551 this ST class in GrandAm racing pits FWD cars against RWD cars on a leveled playing field on road courses across N. OK while your all cryin for Pontiac, Chevy and Caddy..........Buick could use an exciting smaller personal luxury car......after all they floated the fullsize BOP cars with their powertrain through out the last 2 decades. SO lets not forget whos put money into the system and who has cost money. It is to bad that this FWD RWD situation needs to be even a thought or an arguement. Both platforms should have always been maintained at some level, while persueing affordable, reliable AWD. Now we're behind. At the same time there is so many misconceptions being pushed as important "facts" by "enthousiasts" in the south or flat lands as to the lack of benefits of FWD. Also highly exaggerated nonsence about inferiority in handling. The difference is nothing that can be felt or of any concern at levels even 20-30 mph above posted speed limits. I highly doubt GM's decressed sales have anything to do with which wheels drive the car.....sorry. After all according to the topic of the week havent we heard any number of main reasons that GM's sales are dropping.

My predictions about BV's engine is it has blown a headgasket, the knocking sound is most likely the sound of compression flying out the gasket this is also why its overheating. Many many engines by many Japanese manufacturers have also done this over the years.

Theres also guys like myself that buy this kind of "hotrod" "for the wife" because we have to pound around in pickups or beaters due to the work environment. That way we get to drive the "hotrod" on Sat & Sun. Seriously I have seen a fair amount of GTP's over the years drivin by the ladies.........not that ladies have ever been know for good styling taste........ :AH-HA_wink:

I find it interesting that some feel the market turned to import "econo turds" because the full size cars were reworked into something more economical and practical for the times. I mean, it seems funny that because you could no longer get a B Regency for example you would decide to go Civic or Jetta. I just dont think that was the case. It was such a divided market and the Domestic were caught in the middle being pulled by both arms and pissing off both sides of the economy versus HUGE crowd. They pissed off the economy car people by having subpar product and the HUGE car crowd was pissed off by the resized FWD full size cars that actually were excellent cars. The Japs and Germans only needed to continue what they were already doing, not rework everthing while trying to deprogram the American mindset, they just needed to wait for the mindset to come to them. Today we see the end results in much of the perception problems.

If GM, Ford and Chrysler had of stayed with the program of the 70's which was what they had at market in the early eightys they would have ZERO passenger car market today.....in other words...gone. Maybe just truck manufacturers. The H, C & E body BO&P cars were not "econo turds" though they were good for 10 extra mpg and more performance. old style full size B body was still available in Caprice, LeSabre wagon not sure about Olds but obviously demand was poor and sales slipped.

I didnt know there was another thred refering to monochrome street slang & its perversions & varied degree of interpretations ? I thought this was in regards to our resident crocodile implying I was a retard that would never have any idea what monochromatic meant and that is was some kind of big word to me. singled out in other words, something I just recieved a warning for?????????? after a few of the dishers couldnt recieve. I guess some of us are not supposed to allow ourselves to be provoked by the handful of favorite insulters and return the favor. always nice to see the balanced scale
-
Theres got to be a way to have a somewhat balanced mix across the divisions. total abandment was part of the problem so I wouldnt want to see that again in the other direction. They do need to get more caught up on AWD option but cant go total AWD either, due to expence.

Why am I the one being told to calm down ? Is there a level playing field ? shall we take a good hard look at crocs typical post tone ? A unilateral calm down may have been suffice, Im not seeing the balance here. Thats all.

got that attack on hand ? whats with qouteing me and changing words ? If this Camaro reminds you of the previous Mustang I just dont know what to tell you, that car had no flow what so ever but looked like something designed by the man that gave us robocop lets get back to what I said in first post " Generic & sterile ? This cars styling much more borders on outlandish and potent then the other end of the spectrum. I mean this car is in your face, this car is an accident waiting to happen when met by oncomming traffic, this car will give people whiplash without an airbag going off. Ya wanna turn it into boring, sterile and generic, take all the edges off of it, flatten the header, put off the shelf, huge triangle taillamps so wimpathangs can get 15 pounds up and over the 24" bumper height and you will have generic and sterile. Then the sales will really be through the roof. I dont think this is supposed to be a 2X4 hauler" thats my opinion

TR4's and TR250's ROCK, I love the styling ! I never knew about that top though, thats gotta be a detachable segment of a hardtop becasue 4's & 250's like most Brit sports cars were roadsters. Im not sure who was first, I would have thought Porsche myself but that might just be that they had "targa" model. Didnt C3 have targa ?

exactly Joe, monochrome is a slang or street perversion of monochromatic. Meaning everything on body one color & chrome free. thereby leading too................well never mind ;-)

Of Wolves and Men according to his Edgyness Canis Lupus is the second most socialized, organized, intelegent species walking the earth, for the sea look to the Dolphin the other highly socialized mammal that interacts with human. Monkeys (some would argue, and rightfully so) I guess Im in the wrong hemisphere to know much about them but also socialized, organized, intelegent and interacts with humans. Lupus always watching, always observing, always game for some fun, or excitement, playful, political, rules and laws, mates for life, looks out for its own, strong in principles..........sound fimiliar ? Its no wonder this highly observant, thrill seeking and hungry carnivorous species drew close to man on his hunts and around his camps. Little by little the special few from generation to generation became Canis Lupus Familiaris and has walked the earth side by side with the two leggers their ancesters found so intriging. My times with my little lupus packs have been amounst my best times. We have spent many hours over the years observing their interactions and governing of their little "town". Alot of character there let me tell you, even today as they age, they still think their young and full of it and full of themselfs. real dog lovers and outdoorsy types or even armchair adventurers should take the time to rent and watch "Never cry wolf", it will become very clear, the relationship between man and dog.
-
No it means the entire car is surfaced in chrome. Thereby being brilliant, exciting and full of character

I dont know Nick ? He does have valid points but he doesnt understand any of the "dinosaur" points. I myself have been amazed that GM has turned the OHV V8 engine and Corvette into such a beast, but they have. Part of the battle is understanding the difference beween European and American approach and marketing over so many decades. I guess he does not know that the only car at LeMan that beat the C5R & C6R was the Audi A8? prototype. LeMans is the world theater, Im sure all are welcome to come play. If you dont break it, it proves you can take it. I dont favor out of brand engine swaps but thats just my personal preference, car guys have been doing it for decades.

really, the topic title was Cars That You Wish.... nothing about asking to post pictures, which I did. I dont look at other manufacturers car and wish GM had anything like them.....nothing wrong with that or explaining that in a responce, a very valid point actually. In their own way others had a similar view.
-
and your age can never be questioned topic : Cars That You Wish.... responce : "I have never looked at another manufacturers car and wished GM had a car "like it". Thats kinda creepy to me, like a copy cat thing or even falls back on biblical warnings about coveting thy neighbors property. Thats part of the reasoning behind my reaction to some of the interior posts. Id rather look back at GM's great styling history and say "what the heck went wrong". Still and all GM has had greatly styled and performing cars throughout all the decades. There is not a BMW, Acura, Inifinity, Lexus or hun duh toyota, I would prefer to any Buick, Oldsmobile, Pontiac, and some Cadillac and some Chevy's of any givin era. Its about everyone doing their own thing, its about personal identity, sometimes I find all this wanting of others products, which seems to be the status quo (BMW, Lexus) to be an interesting trend coming from generations that have been so focused on individual and personal identity. " so whats the prob ?
-
No I dont understand your problem, you are just being nasty because ? My points are valid as they always have been.
-
yea, they should change everthing until it looks like every other car out there. NOT ! not to worry Chevy and GM will use common sense and not sterilize this car to the sobs of a few. This thing is so hot, inside and out, that is why its recieveing such enthousiastic reviews from those who matter and such critique from the predictable few.
-
Well, there is a new platform, Kappa, Pontiac got the first, I guess it supposedly cant go any further than a roadster but Pontiac got it. RWD, inexpensive, sporty, performance. We're not gonna get everything at once. As for those Lexus or Infinities, I would happily drive a Aurora, Lucerne or Lacrosse, FWD or not, CTS, GTO. I didnt misunderstand your idea, but posting a picture of a type of car and saying I wish GM had one of these is strange to me, I was simply saying its something I can not do, I was not critizing. Like an Aston Martin "I wish Buick had one of these" well they cant, its an Aston Martin not a Buick As for retro...... first read what I said. I said look back and ask what went wrong. Then as far as actual retro (which is a broad perversion), for the most part the "retro"ish cars (excluding the exotics which are also "retro" inspired)...the retro ish cars are the only bold cars on the market today, the only unique styling Viper Corvette 300C Caddy A&S some recent concept cars - Camaro some older concept cars the last car you posted is giving me a retro 924/RX7 feeling I know its not the topic but you brought it up, I think a few would gain more appreaciation if they would see the car instead of focusing on whether or not they can throw it into the "retro" catagory. Take the 1984 Fiero, I knew in 84 that it was a throw back to 73 X1/9 and many other early 70's mid engined cars but we never threw up the retro flag, we just said "its about time GM put an affordable mid engined sports car to market" The Solstice is retro roadster, so was Miata, Boxter, S2000 & that BMW, those of us older dudes said "its about time we got back to the good stuff" thats what Im mean by looking back, face it, alot of the past 15 years of styling is not real inspiring, not all of it but alot of it. That was never said about most of what was going on in the 60's early 70's when things were really exciting. I just wish once instead of haveing the kneejerk reaction of getting pissed off at me someone would take the time to think about what Im trying to say. This is bold I wish Ford had one of these I wish Cadillac had one of these I wish Chevy had one of these I wish Buick had one of these
-
yea, its too bad that was not around in mid 90's for the 2dr Supremes & convertables, how cool would that be with a 5 stick ? Then they had to turn the Cutlass into a Malibu  boy that was sperty ! twin cam was great idea that fell short in effort or something, these are the things GM didnt need to do and fail at in the early 90's. ABS Quad 4 Twin Cam plastic manifold in 3800 SII FWD only success would have made the difference of day and night today

yea they sure were

I know nothing, I see nothing ;-)

Wow, hyperthermia is an overwhelming effect to those who have felt it. Glad you helped the lil doggie out. I had my lead dog go through the thin ice at an inlet to a frozen lake high in the Adirondac wilderness.... at night. Amazingly he and the rest of the team did not panic, I was able to follow the gang line up and pull him out, he shook off and went on his way 4 leggers rule !

your money ? money saved from working ? My father did that, I had to save half of my earnings, I have made my daughter do the same, in fact she has saved most of hers. I bought guitars and such with my spending half..... lol
