  1. not an Elva, though I know the similiarity you are thinking off. I believe they were more rounded than edgy like this car. There was a woman named Elva around here.. ;-) now that you mention it. This is a limited run of cars, they were targeted toward the American market, not really stout enough for racing. Small engine, very small.
  2. wowe ! I have read everything you write and fully comprehend all of it, that is why I was able to accumulate that list of comments and questions so readily. We've all heard your spew over and over too....ya know ? I guess your less dense that the people you throw names at ? I dont know what it is you think I dont or cant understand, frankly, to me its makeing you appear a bit overwhelmed, but this little "left behind" bull $h! is a bit over done now and is actually an insult and personal attack...though I realize the moderators have some double standards about insults and personal attacks. Still I can take it with much amusement. A few of us dont think that Pontiac or any division should go all RWD, just deal with it. I also like platform sharing between Pontiac and Buick, to some reasonable degree, thats another reason why I have the "hold on a minute" attitude. I can easily see Buick getting lost and throw to the wayside with some of these "plans". I also want Buick to have some exciting, performing, sporty full lux car, I have been saying that for far longer than the 3 years you mentioned in a previous post. the whole world is never going to agree with you, you will have to get used to that and... I insulted California......where ?
  3. That doesnt make alot of sense either Caddy becasue the CTS, STS, Solstice have all been put donw for one reason or the other as well. The Cobalt has recieved some praise. The full size FWD GMs have always been good cars. I wouldnt fall gullible to the "what is does best" nonsence, after all the 66/67 Toronado and Eldorado were something GM did best, and saying the old RWD cars were done best isnt exactly true, they were just RWD cars, nothing out of the ordinally, they used a four link coil spring rear, that was somewhat premium compared to leaf springs but guess what......leaf spring cars performed just as well and were easier to modify. GM's were not real good handling cars comparitively. GM powertrain has done a great job with there last few decades of FWD cars......excluding the little cars, that has always been a problem.....GM and the "little" cars. I guess the two words in the same sentence is not proper.
  4. SO your saying people in California do not buy FWD cars ? a few other things good job describing yourself once again, very good job describing yourself If we were interested in AWD we would have switched to Subaru years ago whats all your spewing based on ??????????????????????????????????????????? not mine I care about Buick and at one time Olds. They do have something, a great big beek facia, great for Pontiac people that like it, not so great for those of us that dont and lost Oldsmobile and witnessed the castration of Buick.......whats left for us ? Pontiac cant go all RWD, that will isolate them and leave Buick taking the fall because plants cant operate at full capacity, so then what, Buick shares with Chevy ? Both Reg and I have delivered very fair and reasonable views on keeping both products available, even for Pontiac...because remember....your own words........the only people that buy GM's are in the ?"mid west".......(does anyone know where the "mid west" begins and ends, BTW ?) (I think it goes from the Sierra Nevadas east clear to the Atlantic.......according to some) GM did have RWD's available B body and Camaro/Firebird........guess what ? they tanked. yep they could do it better today..and they will.....but they must keep FWD cars available for the mass public........deal with it already. now a few weeks ago when I said you were doing your damndest at talking people out of likeing GM's you said you could not possible accomplish this, yet apparently you now feel you can ?
  5. OK Balthy....this should do it for you......we have seen these cars before......their styling seemed to have been way in advance for thier time .......neck & neck with Mr Earl & Mr Exner (comparitively). You are way off on your time period.
  6. Ya they were pretty cool cars, looks better from side than front. Thats that Datsun yellow that our 710 had. L series motors were the best of their time. That (L16) is just a 4 cyl version of the L24 used in 240Z. Note : twin SU's ! "if the Japs even knew what carbs were" I see this car brought collector money..........not from me. These rear window open exactly as the ones on my 64 Alpines detachable hardtop did. Our 710 was a very good handling car and the L20B with 110hp was at the top of its class in those days. I went flying off the road in the winter time with our 710, front end plowed in turn, down off the bank into the creek bed, about 200 yard down this very same road...........it had crappy front tires.... and I was cookin right along, hit a section of sand free hardpack and that was all she wrote. As I sat in the creek bed I pondered if it was a good idea to put the best two tires on the back the days of poverty.
  7. how do you like that center stack ? B)
  8. Not a Lotus You gave me a bit of a scare there Blu, I had to go check, it occured to me that I never even considered it could be fiberglass......but it is not......it aluminum actually......so Im still a bit off on my description. any guess's on the year or at least the era are welcome too.
  9. So about that definition of razoredge ? This is my idea right here. has anyone seen this car before ?
  10. Yep......for us........now what about all those others "accidents waiting to happen" driving around in the Northernteer ? What if many of them stop buyin GP's, G6, Cobalt, Impala......and buy Camry, Accord, Hyundia, Kias ? Theres already more and more of those Korean cars everyday.....there has been an outbreak of them, even here in hillbilly land, Hyundias and Kias, Camrys and Civics, it getting kinda hard to take, even the mountains aint safe a no mo. I just saw my first hillbilly in a fullsize Toyota.......ruined my entire day, felt like my world was being invaded. :AH-HA_wink: We'll have both "platforms" not soon enough but their comming. Best RWD car I ever drove in the snow was a ...........CAMARO.......... My 76 Delta 88 wasnt bad except during a storm. That was only 3 winters ago I was driving that & my 2wh Dakota w/cap, shelves 3/4 plywood, 3/4 plywood bed cover, two quite heavy tool boxs, serious home made 2x4-3/16 wrap around rear bumper w/hitch....yea that got around real good when the Delta couldnt handle it. The land yachts were always better than the smaller cars.
  11. Blu let me outline the problem........."ION" aint dat one of dem dar saturins ? I have no idea why you would have problems with grade. Someday I may finally be able to post pictures of my area and my various vehicals. We have no problems around here with my real cars, Ive never had one of those cheap GM's, Went from Rabbits to H bodies. There is nothing around here thats a "slight grade" a slight grade is what we call flat. We all know FWD will go with the crown when its spinning, but the point is you rarely need to spin to go anywhere. Same as RWD will go sideways with the crown. See thing is I have no problem with either..........but what I do have a problem with is the BS that the FWD haters throw out. BS is BS. Im up for a backroad cat and mouse anytime, rain, snow or shine. My FWD against comparable RWD......no problem on dry roads..........fresh snow........see ya when you get there. I notice how no one ever wants to talk about how well the Cobalt is doing against the best in its class........FWD or RWD.......Oh well.
  12. CaddyXLR- I understand the point you are trying to make but just for reference........the Malibu was never nothing but a house wifes grocery getter. A better car than Nova by far but still a dime a dozen just like the Nova. It wazs no more in its time than today Malibu............did I forget to say......they were terrible in the snow.......as were all cars that didnt have studded snows & 200lb in the trunk.... thats how we did "weight transfer" Reg - Now come on, we all know the only reason you had problems was becasue you dont know how to drive Read turbos post over and over again until you have the technique memorized.......then go out a practice it.......until it becomes natural instinct........ . Then once you pass that grade you can move on to the OC school of driving.
  13. yes : I have this and it shows estimated output I believe they did determine that the engine in the STS-V did produce this power.
  14. and in the same notion, you can not read that article and tell me I am wrong on how they super conducted the mood regarding certain cars........but yet the g6 performed in the middle to the top in the class. likewise - quit making excuses it wasnt just 0-60 times it was everything, excellent in lateral G's and transitional steering...braking.....theres no excuses.
  15. tee hee hee hee hee..that was so cute...ah..... Well TURBO200 I dont care if GM has cars in rental fleets........OK ? Notice Im talKing directly to YOU ? not through someone elses post ? Its not a big issue to me, I dont dwell on it, I have things that concern me more, am I allowed to do that ? Is there something wrong with being one of the many that doesnt think because a car has also been sold to a rental company its no good ? Now lets see some of that maturity and stop with the "cute". OC, I understand this problem, it is a shame for buyers of new GM's that this affects their resale or trade in. I also realize its a pull out for the hard shopping car buyer. I can not help this, lets just see if anything can. GM's lower resale value has offered me great buys on the cars I have owned. I have very low dollar per mile auto expence, so for that reason as well, it does not effect me..........HOWEVER ! That was still not what I was talking about, I just dont really care if GM are in rental fleets or driven by government agencies, as in it doesnt bother me....it doesnt matter to me. You guys claim you have no GMs where your living, let me ask you, from where Im living and the amount of GM cars I see around, has it ever occured to you, as it has to me, that maybe, just maybe, we are seeing two different pictures ? AND have two different ideas on the agendas ?
  16. absolutely screwy, this has had to been one of the most painful paragraphs I have read yet. Thats really out there.
  17. Did you hear that song Boz Scaggs did ABOUT 2-3 YEARS AGO ? All I can think is Miss Riddle. I remember all that old R&B from those days too, some really good stuff.. How about War spill the wine I recently saw footage of Robert Cray, we went to see him for his Strong Persuader tour, man that guys got somethin. It might be blues, which I love anyhow but his voice is so clear, pure and expressive, and theres no missin his pickin. In fact I have the album right here and kinda bummed I cant play it.......like who has a turntable anymore ? We do, but who has a needle ? Edit: Strong Persuader was 1986 ........that was 20 years ago ???? OMG, this is bad, tic toc tic toc tic toc B)
  18. and this is why I have anger.................issues
  19. make no mistake, that Mercedes is the finest piece of sheetmetal, nothin but character. Wonder what Caddy is going to do next ? This basic "CTS" look is already 3 yrs old ? and they are just now getting this XLR-V to market ? Im not sure if this is the best way to "hit" the market. Seems after three or four years you would be hitting the market with the "next stage" not "also this."
  20. the FWD GM's are popular here in the snow country of NY State also, not sure about down state. Impalas, GPs, GA's everywhere, at one time there was LeSabres and Eighty Eights commin out of every steet, Cieras are still abundant. Lacrosse is more common now. Im just fianlly starting to see a few 300's or magnums every once in awhile. Same with CTS, it didnt seem to be very popular, but thats just going by "spottings". This is why I asked if anyone had Cadillac sales fugures for 1996 and then for 04 or 05 ? We can only speculate as to whether is a drivewheel issue , or "dash plastic" issue, or styling issue or whatever, once again it makes no sense to make to much issue of it. We all know some new buyers are going to want FWD and some are going to want RWD, some are gonna feel up the dash board and some arent gonna give a hoot. I live near Albany so there is lots and lots of municiple vehicals running around, the W Impala was a big seller for county sherrifs and city cops. Seems like much of the state workers have been running Fords for quite a few years now. I dont know my models so I cant tell you which ones. The mans whos land Im currently working on has a state appointed .........um??? little Ford.....Escort ? It would be a hella thang if they were running around in Yotas or Hun Duhs. I cant help anyone with their "rental" issues, someone has to sell rental agencys cars..........should that be Hyundia and Kia or do we want American cars available at our airports ? I dont know and I dont really care......actually.
  21. I was speachless when I saw this, It was the least amout of time I have ever spent looking at a Ferrari, I first ran becasue it just couldnt be true, then I came back and looked again because surely a Red car could not look like that. If their looking to break out of the mold..this aint it ! they have missed before, throughout the ages too. Anyhow for those damaged by this vision as I was, I found a view of one of these to ease the pain, I hope it helps.
  22. yea, thats it I just dont like Mercedes much. cha ching$, cha ching$ Isnt the 190 the cheap square one ? Kinda like the Caddy Cimmaron of Mercedes?
  23. Cool story about the Bonneville, mysterious, Hollywood even. The hidden door way and its passages. Now lets not talk about that bone yard you brought to our attention and Mr Mitchells determination to get rid of everything Harley, cant be, shouldnt be, but yet it happened.. How could one of the best not go out of his way to protect the work of his comrades, era and mentor ? I say it had to be brass not Mitchell, it just couldnt have been. Imagine the value of these cars today, not just in dollars either. Now you said if I remember correctly from the XP project that there was 2 F88's ? I have also seen Wildcat II in 2 different colors. these XP cars are the only cars that have intrigued me more than the old hand built Ferraris and from me that is saying alot. Imagine if you can, a Motorama tour today with everything that is left from the Y job through to the Aero Vettes or even better yet, including everything worthy since,,,,,85 Wildcat, Bengal, Cien, Sixteen, Velite, ect. Do you think that might get the attention of America ? I just dont get it with GM, S-F-W and I just dont get it. Maybe to many Chiefs and not enough Indians.
  24. Mercedes 190 ????????????? EW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! were we just talking about MONEY PIT Vips, this is the thing.... and Im glad Blu gave it to you because I really wanted to. Look at it like this, the effort you put into complaining about the car far exceded what it would have took to swap in a $300 jy engine. For example - Since your engine went, I have put a small addition on the shop, new tank and lines in Ciera plus undercarraige sandblast & paint, layed patio block in one 18'x18'dog kennel plus part of our walkway. In addition to that I worked in my wood lot and spent endless hours bitchin at you guys Anyhow - forget all the other bigger engine and all that dreamin stuff, it cost lots of money and is very very complicated. Right now, maybe you can get $100, but you take $300 and say..... two weekends and some knuckle skin, this issue would have been history......4 weeks ago ? You would have had a car to drive or may have sold it by now. Instead you are doing nothing and therefore nothing is happening.....see what I mean? This is the catch you wind up in with used cars, you need to fix them or loose them. If you pay to have them fixed the shops steal the residual value of the car. See Caprices thread , that is what we call the "gottcha factor", highly prevalent throughout the world & life. Bust a move Dude before the lack of it busts you :AH-HA_wink: I know you dont have the tools or hoist or tree limb or friends that do have the tools, ect. Me and two other guys pulled my first engine by hand talk about determination, it was the Alpine, 1724 cast block, aluminum head I4. My manual had a section that said it could be done with a pole, chain and 3 men so we did it, my friends were not happy It was 30 years ago and they just finally started talking to me again B) "you can do it ! "
