  1. Yes, there is alot of superior pieces in the L67(S I&II SC) & L32(SIII SC). In fact they are quite different than the NA(naturally asperated) version (L36). The L67 was a well thought out and designed, purpose built high output engine that is well within its livable limits. In other words, mildly tuned. Blower snout bearings can wear out after ??? mileage just like a water pump or alternator (far more rugged however) but it does not destroy the engine and is not a reliability issue. Ive only heard of a handful. The L36 (NA) has been by far more problematic with the plastic (composite) intake manifold and gasket related issues, which can cause hydro locking of the engines or bearing degradation due to anti freeze in the oil. Any L36's with spun bearings or engine knocks are engines that had the intake gasket failure and were not taken care of or neglected like 10,000-15,000 miles on oil with slight antifreeze contamination in oil. Anti freeze "eats" engine bearings. The L67 does not have this problem or any other. The intake is aluminum as it should be. My 99 L36 in the Eighty Eight 50th Anniversary model had the gasket and manifold changed under used car warrenty at 7_,000 miles. There are guys out there that have changed their lower intakes+gasket two and even 3 times, by the time they got upward of 200,000 miles. The newer NA 3800 have returned back to aluminum intake as should have been done by 96/97 when this issue first came to light. There are L36's that have never had the problem. My 97 L67 in the LSS has 112,000 trouble free miles except for a water pump at a courious 8_,000 miles. Had it been a N* water pump problem the engine would have had to be removed and nearly stripped to replace the water pump, which only took me 3 hours on the L67......which was enough piece removal as it was (right side engine mount), but at least I didnt have to drop drivetrain out the bottom to do so. So theres some down and dirty GM powerplant negitive values (dirty laundry)......(which we know the competition has none of  ) Now Cananopie you can take that for what its worth now that you have been informed or you can continue to believe that the NA 38 is more reliable but at least you have more to go by than your gut feeling.
  2. THey cant take that to a show......its already been involved in a head on....... I dont know what the Rolls your refering to looks like. I think they have some great styling ideas here like 50% that has been destroyed by the other 50% nonsence. Im wonderoing if the photos havent been pinched, the head on looks like its going to tip over just sitting there. I thought minivans were on their way out ?
  3. Why thanks Ven ! Most excellent, I fully appreaciate the effort !
  4. too funny ! me ? I work alone ah with nobody else and when I work alone I prefer to be by myself  doesnt play well with others.....who would have thought ?
  5. I hadnt heard about this ? work related tragedys are the worst, especially when they are like a mine or ship, the no way out kind of thing. I cant imagine that kind of job, I have the greatest respect for those that go into that awful environment day after day after day.
  6. GM's current problem is they lost ? 5 ? 7 ? billion at Fiat (we know its much higher because people were making the big bucks concentrating on this "deal" instead of keeping the eye on the ball) and gave Wagner millions in bonus's last year. The money squandered at Fiat, Saab, saturin and greasing exec's could have takin care of the multitude of problems mentioned. Then we could go back to former management and find where they were not keeping the eye on the ball. or..... we could just jump to the easiest and obvious current problems and blame it all on them when in reality they are the product of all I mentioned above. Its impossible to vote on this because whats wrong is so far reaching. All the money squandering has been done and aint commin back nor the time lost so lets ignore that.......like everyone does anyhow  Styling & design but is that the bean counters ? We have seen so much potential in "show" cars but they are just a tease Engineering and Technology but is that the bean counters ? We have seen so much innovation that never came to light or failed when it did. advertizing & promotion......ah.....let me think about that a minute  they surely have been employing undercover Asian reps quality and materials or is that the bean counters bean counters while I believe wrong decisions have been made, where the extra investment would have paid off long term, you cant blame them for job banks and huge executive bonus's & perks (or can you?) health insurance where is our government anyhow ? oh yea, I remember, taking care of business......elsewhere pensions No!, that was part of their pay package and until your ready to take back the multi millions perhaps billions overpaid to executives over the past 30 years and their pensions you can not touch that with little more than your lips.
  7. They could easily make 3 different styles of optional hardtops, fastback would look better to me as well. this could serve purpose of luggage area but would not serve purpose of luggage area of in roadster mode. I not really crazy over the top we see on the "club racer" either. Its way too much like a 92-99 LeSabre roof, nothing sporty about that.
  8. Good grief ! None of any of this "qouteing" of "numbers" matter in the first place because of the title of this topic. Everyone is lying, EPA has been challenged for highly innacurate fuel statistics and hp/tq rateing are being challenged. Depending on ones standpoint the gas mileage in their vehical is either so high the listener stnads flaborgasted as the lier stands there giving Rabbit diesel numbers for thier pickup truck, one can only wonder to themselves "does this idiot think Im standing here swallowing this BS whole". Same as when anti GM people pop up into any topic they can to prove the absolute worthlessness of all and any GM model ever built. I sit here and wonder "does this idiot think Im swallowing this BS whole ? " My buddys LS1 C5 has a lifetime average of 23 MPG Someday I will learn something about engines and economy and power bands and who spends how much building what engines but until then I think Ill just punt like the rest of ya's. Good grief !

  10. Mice are a problem in the country in the winter. If you dont have new construction up on concrete or block and tightly built they are a real pain. We had lots of problems before we put the full basement under this former "camp".
  11. New Years eve day - worked on addition to my shop New Years Eve - with my old friends and familys New Years - goofed off, laid back, was useless
  12. jeepers jumpin jimminies !
  13. We've been driving Buicks, Oldsmobiles or Chryslers since our mid 30's. Theres a few reasons why this generation primarily drives American 1. American - awareness 2. Value - more important than yuppy statis que 3. Comfort - nothing rides like most of these types of cars 4. class - best bargin for classy fully appointed cars = value 5. most of these are probably retired former middle class who knew the where, whys and how they came by their income and retirement = 1- 4 6. everyone grows up sooner or later
  14. Interesting ideas boys! Ill go for my small economical but Super Sly lightweight Buick Lux 2seat drop top W i l d c a t all LS 6&7 knowledge applied to a all alloy 3 litre V8.......intercooled blower 12 psi stock DOD mounted behind front axle RWD....FW assist only 6 stick - 4 under 5th direct 6th OD mileage goal of 28/34
  15. but I think Cananopie that the idea is from a test drive during car shopping its believed that the drive/ride in the 3.6 powered car would be more pleasant or quieter or smoother and that this could be more of an enticement to consider Lacrosse or Lucerne instead of Lexus or Inifinity. Not to mention all the bad pub thrown at the 38 or PR design There are those that do all this reading and research to help themselfs make the decisions. As you see its always mostly negitive and aims to be so until.............. so there are alot of valid points, perception or not as to changing over about as many as we have for wanting to not change over, new car buyers dont give a hoot what happens to the car after year 3 or 4. Still I do honestly believe as Cananopie does that offering both or 3 even the 4th (sc38) has its merits and Buick need not be destroyed in publicity for offering both or 3 or 4. You bring a good point about Buick needs to push that SULEV a bit for promotion.
  16. I was talking about G2 00-04 or was it 03, Im thinkin 03 was Intrigue, 05 Alero ? Eventually maybe someone will do a comparision, it would be interesting, seems to me the Aurora would have had the interior to keep the interior scrutinizers from complaining, maybe not the right materials, I dont know. I'd enjoy seeing two photos side by side of both cars. Im thinkin the Aurora was more exiciting styling, Lucerne more conservative. Paulie and Vips - i dont think Buick has a current identity it needs to follow, I mean I dont know what a Buick needs to look like to look like a Buick. Certainly not what they looked like from 91/92 - 05.....Riviera excluded, but we cant go back to that either. But really Buick has changed every decade or generation. They could put more class into those tailights thats a fo sure. I need to head down to the city and see if I can find one, maybe even take a drive, Ill be sure to try the 195 38 to see if its really hard to merge in traffic  "oh no oh no I cant get it to go oh no oh no " bah ha ha ha ha ha :P
  17. wonder why the same negitive sentiment doesnt carry over to the LS1&2, LS 6&7 wonder why what ever LS tec was never applied to the 38, not that is matters now but in 95/96-00 it was an advanced engine and I would guess class leading. Then the thing I really really wonder is - on the tec section there has been a few powerplant idea posts and not a one response from the highly opinionated or "inside track" people. Seems to me that would have been a better place to debate future power options, rather than turn a members car comparion and review into a "so what, its still no damn good, because Buick is still using the Buick V6 (until production ceases in _ _ )". ya know what Im talkin about ? :(
  18. Yes a few times, I dont really like the mood, to me its like "they" are taking over the collector car market too. Good for restorers and current owners and traders but not good for do it your self low budget collecters like myself. Now everyone that has a old rust bucket sitting out back thinks its worth 10,000 just as it sits. Exageration of course but it has made some people think they are sitting on a gold mine. that is what is nice about being into more obscure cars like Delta 88's and LeSabres. But then we cant go and buy reproduction quarters, fenders, door skins, grills, ect. while the muscle car crowd can buy all this stuff new.......for a price. I guess it has its pros and cons.
  19. While it is not a put the hugest engine in the ugliest car available I bought my ultimate sleeper car, 1997 Oldsmobile L67 LSS. I have gotton thumbs up from TransAm driver after a little cat and mouse and a kid ricer in a Acura who was ready to pass a slow driver when he looked in his rearview mirror and saw I already had the jump I backed off at 110 which comes fast. He followed me into the convient store where I was after a coffee and with eyes as huge walnuts and face as long as 66 Toro hood, looked at the old ?blue hair? and said AWSOME PASS MAN ! He just kept looking at the Olds and was astounded, confused and I could see the clock of reality ticking in his head.
  20. Fast but not agressive, aggressive is when you have no regard to others or traffic conditions. I lost my license twice when I was 19 for speed. 6 months and then another 90 days within a month. In traffic or towns or high copper risk areas I drive with traffic the faster traffic. being country boy back roads are hard to resist the need for some lateral G's but thats only when alone. Rest of the time like a mature, collared family man making good time but not rocking the boat.
  21. Modena - spinning 8000
  22. Cananopie - we could expect that the 3.6 would improve over time as the 38 did so that might help some of the issues you have thought of. GM does need to jump its mileage ratings a few miles on the gallon, soon.
  23. chrome is now an option because of all the chrome bashing over the years.......damned if they do damned if they dont other manufactures may charge for wheels too but I would not know Buick does not have a low class feel and is undeserving of such implications Edmunds sound like a good place to take all those millions of negitive anti American sentiments
  24. I gave it the eh too. I must confess the results so far are interesting, I expected all NO! Not sure what some meant about the waterfall grill, doesnt Lucerne have one or am I pictureing the Velite ? Im tired of the oval, have been for a long time. I like the double lights....idea.....but Jag and its clone Hyundia pulled it off better. Lets face it nearly everyone has some form of rectangle ish headlights now so I give them credit for trying something else, I dont have the answer but I do like the idea. Overhang ruins the chance for a lower sportier front dam. If anyone has looked the distance from the front to the radiator seems awfully unecessary, maybe its a crash test crumple zone necessity ? I believe they should put a new face on it by 07 "you can do it!"
