sorry I can bot respond to this thread. I have been giving a verbal warning. I will however go down to the bank and take out my savings........all 2oo dollars worth and send it to some poor Korean. Perhaps it will help them with one of their huge monthly mortgages. I will also make sure the next car I buy is Korean made.....no wait......Japan is 134 (what ever the hell that is), I can see they need my financial support even more than the Koreans............I sure hope that part of the "global" economy doesnt catch up with me.

I didnt follow you GA threads after the first few posts. I always got right to work on my cars to figure out the problem and I could see that was not going to happen so I just didnt follow it. So it spun a rod bearing, not blew up I had a Honda that spun a rod bearing out of the clear blue. Low mileage, clean car too. Must be I should have asked it "do you like to rev?" The Alero rental I had with the 2400 must have "liked to rev" because it went like hell. Maybe it had those special roller camshaft chain belts.

Trinacriabob review of rental LaCrosse test drive
razoredge replied to trinacriabob's topic in Buick
Im willing to bet that a very high percentage of Buick, Oldsmobile and Pontiac drivers/owners, that have the 38 in their cars would not care to have a 2.8 and be mixed on the 3.6. Any Supercharged 38 owners most definantly would not. I wish people would just leave the subject alone. We all know whats comming in the future so why does it always have to be the priority of non GM and non 3800 owners to make sure they get their little poke (or "rant") in ? The future holds everything you all want so why can we not rest in peace ? Its the current Buick engine, highly available and in full production in the US of A, Just let it go PLEASE ! PLEASE ! -
they were fast for that size car/engine of its time. The comparison I remember was R&T I think, because thats the only magazine I would read. It was 84 Corvette, 928 Porsche & Ferrari 308 GTB. The Corvette got 1.0g on skid pad and they were all enthoused, if I remember it was the first road car to achieve the 1 lateral G. The Ferrari got very poor milage, Corvette was least expensive, thats all I remember, the others excelled at something but I cant remember, probably breaking. Im a little annoyed now, I burnt up my magazine collection in mid 90's after keeping them for 10-15 years. I had the first Fiero reports, the C4, they used to cover a classic sports car every month, now I wish I had them again. Oh well.

Thanks ! Everyone knows that, step to the back of the line please Let me ask you a few questions, Ill go cheap and conservative here to avoid any chance of era or exageration, while the reality of the American cost of living is far larger than I will show. So I take it your trying to tell this idiot that the Koreans are paying 250,000 American dollars for a home......or more So I take it your telling me, Koreans are spending 1500 per year on auto insurance ? So I take it your telling me the Koreans are spending 200 + per month to drive to and from work ? 200 a month to heat their homes ? So I take it your telling me Koreans are spending 2500 + per year on property taxes ?

What the hell is this guys problem ? Ive seen a few of these posts  Where was there any hate ? Where was anyone wrong ? This is a GM site and some of us arent here to listen to a bunch of anti GM bull, what dont you get ? Like I said, just fixate on that old Seville or the Cimeron and make large of it, then throw mud on the one that says BS and twist what was said. Why do these people come here ! Why ! I'd say the answer lies right between the lines in the attitude of this post For quite a few years we had beater Mercedes running around these parts. No one wanted them, they were cheap, just like old Caddys. I have a friend with the 280 SL I have a friend that had the rare 83 ???550 SLC, I forgot the proper numbers, it was the 500#'s, low mile, near perfect, he bought a C5 and sold the Mercedes at a loss, however he made a easy 6000 on a 63 Corvette convertable My sister and brother in law have two now, not beaters, their in Knoxville.......their 16 year old son just bought a 68 Toronado for his first play toy........hmm ? They were really really impressed with our LSS, we went for a long drive into the Blueridge, they took the LSS and kids, we took his C4 with the top off, they just loved that LSS. Surely there was some great Caddys between the 67 Eldorado and the 76 convertable. I believe the poster said something about mid 60's Coupe Devilles. How about the ultimate pimpmobile ? early 70's Eldorado, all pimped out to would be sooo cool, a very important part of that period Americana :P empowas idea about updated I believe is the only way it could be done, the cars would have to meet all regulations. The improved gas mileage would be a sales factor too, but now you dont have a true Cadillac. Its still not economically feasible however, 30 years ago would have been the time to begin to do reconditioned cars, with todays money problems it just wouldnt fly.

The Jeep Liberty Diesel 4WD, rated at 22 mpg in the city by EPA, got only 11 mpg  The Honda Civic Hybrid Sedan, rated at 48 mpg in the city, could manage only 26  hey now !!!!! thats the car of the years right there, hell a magazine supposedly got 28 pounding the poop out of a "regular Honda" my HUUUGE full dress Oldsmobile gets 22 in town. And the popular Chrysler 300 C was cited at 17 mpg in the city by EPA, vs. 10 by Consumer Reports. No kiddin, really ? DUH ! Its a HEMI  2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser, rated at 20 city/26 highway by the EPA, could only achieve 17.5 mpg  my old HUUUGE 90 Regency gets 20 around town BMW Z4, with an EPA rating of 21/29, was calculated at 15 mpg. No way  Thats a BEEMER right there, every Americans BABY  Do you think the press and auto tabloids will FIXATE on these lies and realitys or will they simply continue to look under the seats to find whats wrong with a GM ?

So whats with the "revs easily" crap. Sometimes people throw that out and it sound to me like an engine seizing, theres only one engine I have ever heard that does not "rev easily" and the air cooled DEUTZ diesel, for some reason, I believe its the was they are governed they are really loagy at the rate they increase RPMs, all other engines I have ever been around snap with a crack of the throttle. I never heard of this doesnt "rev easily"until I came here that is, 30 years of engines and suddenly I find theres a new engine plague on the loose........check the oil! "Doesnt like to rev", what do you do, ask it "do you like to rev?" and it comes back saying "no, please, dont make me rev today !" Q4's had head & gasket problems, everyone knows and its a shame because is was pretty much GM's first high production aluminum DOHC engine. Its should not have been so problematic and that should have been cured within two MY's. So now, that said.......Vips did your engine "blow up" or did you simply pop a gasket?...big difference between blowing a head gasket and blowing up an engine. Then did you shut it down or did you finish it off. Theres a difference there too... between putting a rod through the block or burning a piston and running an engine to see if a problem such as a blown head gasket goes away. I blew a head gasket and warped an aluminum head on a Datsun L20B a highly reputable engine in its day, it was entirely my fault but I was clueless at that time. I did however take it apart, send the head out for milling and reassembled it, right out in the driveway and it was good to go again. I also had a some head problems with a high milage 22R Toyota.....another highly reputable engine throughout the 80's. It was something that just happened, pumping compression into the water jacket and pushing the coolant out the overflow, I attribute it to age and 209,000 miles. I was told this was a common proble after age on the 22R. I never bothered tearing that one down but put a newer low milage 22R and all was good after that.....until the tranny dropped a roller from the input shaft....cha ching $$$$$$. So this extends what OC was saying about specs and stats. Same as how you can not completely judge performance on a spec. sheet, you can not also assume even the best of engines will not fail.

I dont fly but it seems to me people would be worried about the maintainence of equipment. Just on the news infact.....thats funny.....Independant air might be done ? Whoever that is. THats the kind of stuff Id be worried about. stupid cut throat capitolistic ideals...... its not like any would go without work if they all charged necessary rates.....it is after all a business.....lets get professional people ! Lets wake up America....this is not a test run.....its the real deal :( I have always figured bankruptcy would kill a company. I also figured killing Olds would send out bad signals and I figure all the buzz about GM loosing money and stock value would hurt sales. It's like one big snowball on a hill in fresh wet snow, its going to be really hard to stop.

thanks for the in depth mechanical overview Vips  get back to me in 10 years <_<

OC - to heck with them if they cant take a joke. Really I wouldnt worry about it, ever notice everyone hits the brakes when they see a cop? I think they are used to it. Even the people that are driving 5 mph under and have never drivin above 50 mph their entire lives ? lol Cops just make people freak, at least around here. Everytime there is a cop around, next thing you know everyone is driving like 45 mph and still slowing down. Who uses directionals for lane change on interstates ? lol, put her in the left lane and send it. It does sound like a nice feature though, the four or five flashes. Ive been use to the light touch like Fly mentioned for like 3 decades so it doesnt stress me.......not nearly as much as 4 spoke steering wheels....that there is no getting used to !

Ferdinand Porsche designed the VW, Porsche was his sports/race car nothing was borrowed, it was his engineering firm. He was 71 years old and just out of 2 years in solitary confinement in prison when he brought the first Porsche out in 1948 at the Swiss Grand Prix.

Porsche has had an amazing track record. I believe they are the king of road racing, I dont think any other manufacture comes close to the amount of victories. They sure have made the best of that one body style revamped in many tasteful touches over the years but that does give them the impression of being predictable. It was and is still a very nice body style....which explains its ability to last for 4 decades. the 924 & 928 were a departure from everything Porsche and they did not continue on like the rear engined design and style did. Heres a few other departures built for the track 63 904 GTS this thing weighed 1169 lb and kicked some serious butt the infamous 550 Spyder the car the Boxter did modern retro of 65 906 the 73 917-30 an 1100 hp, twin turbo 5.4 litre flat 12, 238 mph demon that was pretty much solely responsible for race commitees to say woa, enough is enough, we need some regulations  this is the 75 911 turbo I mentioned earlier in the week, I believe designated 930 elsewhere or origionally. This is the car responsible for sparking my interest in sports cars when previously I was a Cuda, Camaro, Mustang, Roadrunner "kid"

 OMG, listen to the import lovers pull the lowlyest Caddys out and ignore the cheap Mercedes. So very typical ! I spent some time in a 230 SL this summer, excellent car and I always loved them but this was the first I drove one and spent time in one. Compared to my H & C bodied GM's it was a pickup truck with sporty looks that could go topless and had aluminum and upper camshafts around the engine. At one point it was not running correctly and the girl spent 1500 at the dealer for a tune up.......so yes you are right they can add up a pile of money.......fast ! However compared to the great Cadillacs they are sparten. The man hours restoring an elaborate Cadallic compared to man hours in what ever Mercedes would never compare. I do believe Mercedes would make up the cost difference in 'gold" plated pieces however. BUT ENOUGH OF THAT - IT WASNT THE POINT ! The idea is a great one but as Balthazar was trying to point out is complex. First you would want to find good examples to keep the man hours down and time spent trying to hunt down perfect trim pieces ect. These good examples would cost plenty as it was. Restorations are extremely expensive because they are labor and material intensive, anyone that has ever got involved would know. Then theres the current US standards and selling an old Caddy as a new car is impossible, repowering to current standards extremely costly as well. Its a really tricky situation and best left to the great restoration people and Barrett Jackson. Then most dealers would not want to dedicate showroom space to a priceless classic Caddy that you would have to worry about getting scratched or any other number of problems with old cars sitting around. Great idea that is mind and wallet boggling. GM should do more to show its more glorious history with its great collections and has had shows on SPEED. They did the 100 years of Buick tour, great big huge centenial car shows.....you name it. But as we have seen on this site, showing the variety of old GM's has met mixed results. sixty8, Harley, Balthazar, myself on occasions and a few others have displayed some great examples and there is usually more mocking or just no interest. We saw the mocking in this post. Id take a 81 Eldorado over any 81 Mercedes and 77/78/79-85 is not my era, my least favorite in fact but the Eldorado is quite American classy, also that era of Eldo, Riv, Toro sold like hot cakes. Yet the site is full of mockers. So my conclusion to the man that had the idea and made this post is........ all that, and what for ?

I understand Griff, Im not talking about glare Im talking about the negitive contrast unnatural light has against natural light. I have been aware of it for years. Ive been down in my shop working on a sunny summer day with the lights on like a dummy, when I figured out what the problem was ands shut the damn things off I could see far better. If I was a wealthy film director I would set up two traffic scenes during the day, one with unnatural lights sticking out all over the place and another same highway without them. It would be very obvious that these unnatural lights cutting up the contrast and depth do more visual distraction......I'll call it mono tone for my lack of proper term. You can not see the vehical beyond the headlights, all you can see is the headlights. Another example I have always been annoyed with was people that turn their lights on long before dark. When one of those cars comes at you it cuts off the depth or distance you were just previously seeing to only as far as those lights. The eyes pick up little beyond the lights. Another example though this is night oriented, but of similar effect, can you see the stars beyond the fireworks ? No! But after the sparks fade away you can see the stars again. They can pull all the so called research they want out their butts and I will still say medow cookies, my eyes dont lie, unnatural light against natural is a distraction, whats next flashing laser lights just about the windshield ? Would this be a distraction ? Yes it would and headlights in broad daylight is as well. Bikes have always been a problem and even with lights on they can still mold into scenery at certain angles but anyone having problems seeing the traffic around them does not belong on the road....which we know is the case through just a bit of traffic observation. What does light straight in front of you do for your peripheral ? Narrow it. What does unnatural light do for 3d and depth perception ? It narrows it. I rest my case, must be my eyes are much diffent than eveyone elses but I want my scenery to be a flat plane of natural light and shadows undistorted by man made nonsence. I want to see green cars and red cars and pickups or wagons, no a set of headlights.

Looks great from the side but Chrysler has got to get over this grill fetish they have going, that is just beastly and not in a good way. So much more could be done with both the 300 & this car in the front facia. SOmetimes less is more and this is a fine example of when a bit of restraint would go along way. That said I would love to see a new Imperial on the market and I hope they go forward with an Imperial. We had a 89 Nyer and hit a dear with it, I replaced the headerpanel & bumper with the more edgy aero Imperial header, it was a one of a kinder  We loved the car and drove it for 3 years.

You barely have to breath on the brake pedal to disengage cruise, if a copper can see your lights its to late anyhow. I think GM has done a great job at keeping everything neatly packaged, extra levers is just that, you have extra levers to do the same thing I can with one.....you loose ! Ha ! I never had a problem with the light switch being on the dash ???? Its certainly never been a reach, its right there. LSS has heat/fan and volumn/program on wheel. The old Regal had an interesting feature on wheel in addition to volumn and channels, that was a on/off for radio which I miss, but no heater controls........still, none of the above made me feel like crrryin. VW's, Toyotas, Datsuns, old American cars with cruise switch on dash.....none of them made me feel like crrrryin. I still like and miss aircraft quality toggle switches that snap with authority at the flip of a finger. No push, no pull, no twist, no rocker, just flick that old switch and SNAP.....all business. Floor mounted dip switches still rule

Let me help you out sciguy...next time your goofing off or not studying or taking a test......think of me  That ought to get you motivated  wattsamatterU sucks, you dont wanna go there. I worry for my daughter but girls seem to be more academically motivated on a whole than guys are. She does well...really well but Math has always been a struggle.

Yea, I dont get this boxy riceroni thing either but its Sly so Ill let him live another day  That engine sure looks like a L26 or 28 to me ? What say you Sly ? Back 2o+ years ago I have a love affair for those SOHC L engines. I had a 71-2-or 3 PU which I really wish I could have kept with the L16, then a latter style with the L18 and of course the 710 2dr had the L20B which was quite hot for its day. Still and all we should not be driving riceroni around this place anymore ! at least get a 240, 260 or 280Z for cryin out loud, that is excusable riceroni. In fact its prime rice  buff the dents out of the Volvo and put that on the road B) Ya know I was involved in a roll over(not driving) in a late 70's or early 80's ???? 210 ???? A real cheap pile of gutless crap but we did not get hurt, no seat belts  . I was surprised my girlfriends mother bought it, it was the car she replaced the 710 with and gave the 710 to my girlfriend. Compared to that 210 or whatever the hell it was the 710 was a Maserati. Her father was drivng the then "new" 626.

Trinacriabob review of rental LaCrosse test drive
razoredge replied to trinacriabob's topic in Buick
I can parallel park a tractor trailer........toooooot, toooooooot, BFD I know. the thing I cant do is back the LSS in a parking lot and not hang the front out into the lane. I dont know what my problem is but that 5 foot long overhang must throw me somehow. Im always 2 ft forward of where I should be.....always ! I dont do it with the older C chassis 90 Regency which is the same chassis. -
This is pathetic, can you imagine what a crowded highway or city driving will be like. Nothing but glowing headlights, no 3D depth, no color or contrast just a mass of glowing light bulbs. It scares me that the people that think this stuff up are highly educated and highly paid. You know we will be next, so much for a pleasent drive around town on a sunny day.
-
It should just be an option......call it the fat bassted seat option, code FB42 Many GM "buckets" have always been a bit on the large side, the LSS has huuuuge "buckets" The media will excuse the imports for loose fitting buckets but I bet they still go after GM for having them. Also interesting to note that the imports are going wider for side protection. While GM is critized for haveing large cars with smaller interior dimensions, they never bother to mention how thick the doors are and the why fors think about it, just check out how thick a GM door is sometime when you have the door open.
