  1. To be fair, both major parties have been forced to accept the reality that we must move on from oil. As for the mechanics of it, that will take some time to work out. The existing fleet alone justifies more domestic drilling - it really shouldn't be a political football.
  2. That about sums it up. We are screwed for a while no matter what. Whoever doesn't believe that - please give some of what you've been smoking!

    Bad Ass

    Badass indeed!
  4. Not in the Constitution, no. But you are way off about the election laws! Merely getting on the ballot has been effectively obstructed by the major parties for years - and yes, it is intentional. They have much to fear from a strong third party.
  5. Easy now everyone, let's dial it back a bit. Don't allow strong feelings on what really is tangential to the reason we all are members here to reduce the level of respect we have developed for one another over the years. I am an extremely political animal, yet I have not been in one "battle" over it here since we allowed such discussions. Is that really so hard? May I suggest that we all refrain a bit from "naming names" and placing blame on anyone for expressing opinion and emotion about this contentious election? For a long time, politics would creep into a thread around here (although technically against the rules) and we all seemed to be able to handle it in an intelligent and civil fashion. Now that we have officially allowed it, it has (at times) descended to the level of slugfest. That really disappoints me.
  6. If all they are going to save is Caddy and Chevy, it hardly seems worth the effort.
  7. I'm betting that the order system will crash.
  8. Barring any significant developments, I think I've made my choice.
  9. I'm not going anywhere - whoever wins will just have to put up with me.
  10. Well... No, I'm not taking the bait there - I do see your point. Rough times.
  11. I really hope that the third debate offers something real.
  12. I have to disagree to a point. It is more important that the mindset of using all available domestic sources becomes entrenched first. Then, we can tackle the renewable aspect of things. Oil will be around for quite some time regardless, so I include it in the range of sources we need to maximize.
  13. For a short-term fix, take the flasher unit out, give it a few good taps, and put it back. Sometimes that works for quite a while. Just make sure it's the one for the hazards and not the turn signals first.
  14. Just left mine on the default it came with - can't be bothered with changing it.
  15. I'm going to be ill...
  16. Last I heard (a week or so ago) Cerebus was planning to buy out Daimler's remaining share in Chrysler. Sweetening the deal for GM?
  17. Back at the beginning of Political threads around here, I said that I saw value in both major party candidates. That has been all but obscurred by all of the BS in this election - all of the substance has vanished. Now, I can't help thinking (as I have for years) that there isn't a dime's worth of difference between them. The arguments are all about accusations and counter-accusations while anything important has been utterly ignored. Sad and stupid.
  18. Could be. The one I drove was a complete POS in my opinion though. I hated every minute being in it.
  19. Yes FOG, the G8 offers AFM (on automatic cars). I love the idea of CNG-powered cars - I'd drive one.
  20. Silverados are great trucks, even if the Sierras are better looking.
  21. It's freakin' simple people! All sources, right now, to prepare for any eventuality. The key is to eliminate the importation of energy in any form asap. Cleaning up the environment in the process is just a fringe benefit we can enjoy. The real issue is independence.
  22. I'd like to get a chance to drive the revised version.
  23. I am, by nature, a skeptic. But much of what is presented in these two films is compelling. More importantly, they challenge us to think for ourselves in ways that we have been "trained" not to for several generations. Do I accept all of the positions promoted by the two films? No, I take issue with some things strongly. But the change in mindset they encourage is something I can get behind. As for the Venus Project, it has more holes in it than Swiss cheese - but I admire the exploration of the possibilities. A believe that adoption of a "resource-based economy" would take several centuries to evolve and would have to occur naturally to be viable. I also reject the notion that meaningful progress cannot be made within a monetary system. As for religion, I am 100% with the sentiments expressed in the films - but you guys already knew that. Thanks for the reactions, I think that watching such films can broaden everyone's understanding.
  24. Perhaps, but the experience has soured me on them permanently, I fear. I also felt extremely claustophic in it - something the new Mini had no hint of.
  25. No, just the color combo. I expect to be using 17s on the Camino.
