  1. Makes me think of the Chrysler Ghia cars and appears to be at a race track. Time frame and "dancing" references have me wanting to guess that the woman is Ginger Rodgers (though I wouldn't know to look at her) Perhaps she drove the pace car or something?.

  4. The biggest danger is always the other driver who could at any moment slide directly in front of you or into you. The plow driver in the video, for example, had no way to avoid creaming that Trailblazer.
  5. Ice sets the limit for what is possible in a car in a way that snow could never touch. It is the most treacherous of driving conditions.

  7. Heavy is generally better, as are skinny tires (with aggressive tread). A low center of gravity shouldn't come into play at all - if it does, you are going too fast. If the snow is really deep, good ground clearance is a bonus. 4WD (or at least AWD) is the best attribute a vehicle can have after good tires. But 4WD and AWD are NOT going to change the braking capacity on such a slick surface - thus many SUVs end up in ditches via overconfident drivers who think that they can stop as easily as they can go.
  8. Nice little lesson on snow driving, DF. I would add that slow, steady motion is the best policy on snow. Using the brakes is to be avoided whenever possible. Rapid control inputs from brake, gas pedal, or wheel are all pathways to a crash. Could I have driven safely through this stretch of roadway? Yeah, most likely. But even for someone as experienced as I am with winter driving, it would have been a challenging gauntlet. Clearly it wasn't simply snow that these drivers were dealing with.

  15. Yes, Holden is a package - a very valuable one that GM would be foolish to lose.
  16. In the last few years I've gone from 3 low-mile vehicles purchased new within the decade of 2000-2010, to a single, 17-year old vehicle purchased used that now clocks over 195K. Which sometimes gets parked while my 35-year old wagon takes up daily driver duties. All of which was due to the complete collapse of demand for the sort of work I do. You might say that I've done a measure of adjusting.
  17. Sorry, Camino, I'm having a good laugh at your expense on this logic, as well. ;-) Good to hear that you're pretty much all fixed up again and the Taho is running great. Meh, I had nothing to lose by making the attempt - still irritates me that I had to replace a perfectly good Y pipe and O2 sensor. My only concern now is a recurring Check engine light that didn't clear when I disconnected the battery. Hopefully it is an old code set earlier in this process that just needs to be cleared.

  20. This. Corvette is all about continuing evolution, not revolution. Since the advent of the C4, every new Vette has raised the bar - this is the one car that GM has consistently gotten right time and time again. Abandoning such a successful process for the sake of the amorphous "New" would be just plain stupid.

  22. You were not so sure about this when they killed Pontiac. See the Sun still comes up. LOL! No, the sun went dark and has stayed that way since they killed Pontiac.
  23. Would have but the Zeta is nearing the end of it's life and just live it out with some upgrades till it is gone. From what they said they can't make it much lighter as it is. I believe GM could afford to do this one much better this now with better funding. But who is to say they could not do a larger Alpha coupe as a Chevelle like vehicle or a new Zeta replacement down the road. A flag ship Cadillac has to go on something. That really is the question - what can Alpha do with its flexibility, and what will Omega be? For what I want, Zeta is perfect - I hope that Alpha or Omega can support a car (truck) with the same size and powertrain as Zeta now does. Otherwise, it's really all over for me and future GM cars.
  24. And you know, without Holden we wouldn't have a Camaro that outsells every Buick, every Cadillac, almost every GMC, and many of its fellow Chevrolets (including Tahoe and Suburban).
