Guys, in a century, cars are going to be about as common as horse-drawn carriages are now. And they'll have the same romanticism associated with them. There will always be people who like to drive, but it's incredibly naîve to believe that the motor car is the pinnacle of personal transportation.

No, but it will give us a buffer while alternative fuel technologies are developed and ready to be mass marketed, and will still reduce our dependency on oil in the interim. And the designs and methods used to make a car that can get 100+ MPG on gas will be just as relevant to cars that run on other fuels to make them more efficient.

In metropolitan areas I can understand why cars are becoming less relevant. But where I grew up and still live, where there is practically zero public transportation, cars are still very important to young people. My house and my friends' houses aren't in walking distance from ANYWHERE interesting. Even so, I didn't like learning to drive and put off getting my license until after I graduated high school. I was perfectly content riding in my parents' or friends' cars.

It basically sounds like a governtment-sponsored extension of the Automotive X PRIZE, which already proved that 100+ MPG cars are feasible. This bill just takes it to the next step by requiring a full production run. I would expect several AXP competitors to go after this as well, since preliminary requirements were that entries had to be production-ready and have a credible business plan.

In that same vein, I believe the Escalade should be made in sedan, coupe, and convertible bodystyles.

Beautiful. It's expensive to be sure, but if you want a (like) new Cadillac convertible right now, this is a great example. And Cadillac sure isn't going to make another convertible this big.

I strongly disagree with you dfelt; for all its interior cheapness, I think it's outwardly the best-looking Jetta yet. I like it far more than the weird rounded styling the Golf still has and the entire VW like has had for the past few years.

I'm usually not interested in mods, but these are tasteful and have some substance behind them as well. The Dart looks really nice, the Compass looks a lot more rugged, and it's nice to see Mopar really make the 500 its own. Not sure about the 300, though. The blacked-out trim is something I'd have to see in person to know if I like.

I give it Cheers for it having been well restored, but the seller also not thinking he has some Holy Grail and pricing it reasonably. That stripe on the side has to come off, though, it's pretty badly applied.

I like the car, but for the money it's going for. It's not a signifigant enough model to sit in a garage with only 11 miles on it. It should be well taken care of but still driven and had fun with (and look totally awesome in).
