  1. Congrats on the new rides! You know I like your GMC purchase!! Parting with the GXP though? I thought you really liked that car? Selling it outright or trading it in? And yes, it's nice to see you posting again
  2. Allow me to introduce my daughter, Sierra Skye!! Born Wednesday, July 14th at 10:56 PM. Weight: 6 pounds, 13 ounces; Length: 20 inches. Mom and baby are both doing well at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (Hamilton Township, Mercer County). Both big brothers, Justin (4) and Anthony (16), are very happy to have a sister. As for the name, it should be no mystery where "Sierra" comes from (still to this day I'm surprised the wife went along with this choice!), and the wife always liked Sky(e) (yes, from the roadster!) as a middle name. My last name begins with a "R", so that makes Sierra's initials SSR too!!
  3. Congrats on the find and purchase. I've passed by one the last couple of weeks in Hamilton on the way to the wife's OB/GYN visits; of course this one isn't as nice as the one you bought. But every time I passed it I thought of you and your desire to find one. Your quest for now is over. Enjoy the car as much as you can!!
  4. I saw that yesterday when looking for an image of the book's cover!! I noticed the price, and made mention of it to the wife

  6. You're right ocnblu... Harley Earl called it "Colour". I guess in the '20s/'30s that lent an air of superiority over just "color". I did a little more checking and found that this book is not a "new" release, as it has been on market since October, 2008. However, the article/blurb in Hemmings was the first announcement I saw for this book. If I was working and had the extra $100 I'd get it; at this point I may have to ask for it for my birthday in December.
  7. Here's the description as printed in the July issue of Hemmings (picture from my Droid phone): From the publisher's webpage (http://coachbuiltpress.com/bookpage-artandcolour.html): $100, hardbound, check the link above for some pictures. Haven't seen it in person yet, but will be on the lookout, though being unemployed right now $100 is too much for me.
  8. After the wife's OB/GYN office visit late this afternoon, we ran into a cruise night that I used to frequent when I lived near Hamilton (Mercer County). Here's what I saw: (my personal favorite there, this 1980 Bonneville Brougham sedan - family owned since '80!) And my former car salesman coworker (retired) was there with his awesome '62 Impala convertible: Johnny's story is that he had a blue one when he started driving that he drove into the ground. 40th birthday he sought out a complete car to restore and spent the next 7-8 years bringing it back to its glory (he's now 64). I've had the pleasure of sitting in the back seat on a ride with the top down - awesome car!!
  9. I've been hibernating in my A/C cooled house during this heatwave... feel really bad for the wife, being 9 months pregnant and not being too comfortable due to the heat & high humidity (the baby is due any day now). My poor fleet is in dire need of a thorough detail/wash, but with the baby due at any moment and this heat, the vehicles will remain dirty
  10. Welcome to our own little world!
  11. +1
  12. Coll find, and thanks for sharing with us (especially those of us that are Pontiac enthusiasts!)
  13. So, anyone planning to attend? I will be there on Saturday (6/26), unless the wife goes into labor before I hit the road ( ), and this year I'll be alone as the little guy has his last T-ball game and pizza party. Anyone else planning to be there? Show info & details: http://www.carsatcarlisle.com/ce/events/gm-nationals/ PDF of the show's program (great pictures of the special vehicles that will be on display): http://www.carsatcarlisle.com/ce/pdf/2010_GM_Directory_Web.pdf

  15. Saw The Karate Kid Friday night and Toy Story 3 yesterday afternoon - liked both very much (I was surprised at how much I liked The Karate Kid).
  16. Car & truck shows, spending time with Justin (can't wait for his 5th bday on 8/8), finally going through the many, many boxes of stuff in the basement, and the #1 thing is bring my baby daughter home in July Amen to that!!
  17. Happy belated Birthday and have a great vacation next month!! Looking forward to this...
  18. Jack and Coke here... not much of a beer drinker, but I do like the new Bud Light Wheat
  19. Thanks Cort!! It has gotten a lot of positve attention from people so far.
  20. BTW, this should have included a poll to see who knows how to drive stick and those who don't (though I know how to shift the manual trans, I'm not proficient at driving in traffic so I would say I'm an automatic-only driver). It would be interesting to see how many posters can drive a stick daily if need be.
  21. I know for fact in central & southern NJ there are no more driver education programs that actually put teenagers in cars as part of driver's education. Many school districts cut that out in the '80s to save on vehicle maintenance & insurance costs. I know when my sister had driver's ed in 1987, and I in 1991, we had just the course that prepared you for the learner's permit test and then if you actually wanted the permit, you needed to take the three-day driving course through a driving school. My 16 y-o is currently in driver's ed and the state of NJ doesn't even provide a manual anymore (cheapskates). Some of his friends that have already had the driver's ed course earlier this year already took the driving school course and have their learner's permit and driver's test scheduled for their 17th birthday (later this year) - my wife is not too thrilled with her son getting behind the wheel just yet Back on topic... there were no manual transmission vehicles in my family when I was learning how to drive (and actually, I can't recall anyone in my family that owned a manual car). At the time I was learning to drive with my permit the only manual trans vehicle was my cousin's boyfriend's tow truck (he wasn't willing to teach me stick on one of his business' trucks). I didn't learn stick until I worked at the BPG dealership in '99/'00, which happened to be with a co-worker's '96 Sunfire GT because I sold a few Formulas and Trans Ams with a stick (special orders only, as stock models were ordered auto trans only) and had to be able to gas them up and take them out on the test drive before they signed. I haven't driven stick since 2006 when I took the dealer demo Saturn SKY for a spin when I placed my order I'm all too comfortable having an automatic, though I know if I eventually find a '55-'57 GMC it will more than likely have a three-on-the-tree for me to learn!
  22. I stopped by my local Wal-Mart for some car cleaning supplies and made a detour down the toy aisle before leaving. Here's what I saw today: Blister package Johnny Lightnings ($2.00 each): 1987 Monte Carlo SS Aerocoupe (missing the hood, has a blower on top of the engine) 1931 Cadillac Cabiolet (new issue #4 in blue, older issue #3 green) 1965 Chevy Impala SS 1981 Chevy Malibu Coupe (two-tone brown over beige) 1950 Chevy Suburban (restoration needed) Hot Wheels Delivery Vehicle Series ($3.97 each): 1959 Chevrolet Panel Delivery/Hurst 1959 Cadillac Funny Car/Rower King of Cars 1956 Chevrolet Nomad Delivery/Milodon
