we had a couple of scamps. 72 and 73. i do not remember a scamp pickup truck. rampage was a chopped dodge omni/plymouth horizon. to compare that to an el camino or the ranchero is way off target.

this is the same thing i went through with GM on my EXT (piston slap). i had the "non duplicatable, normal" problem thing for a year. they finally folded. BTW, this 02 is the quietest truck i have owned. quieter than the 03 bonneville i have and the bonne was insulated and undercoated.

yeah, but my 99 intrepid es was a stone chip magnet. cab forward, front slung low= lots of chip action on the freeway. the good side is my daughter got side swiped into a concrete barrier, on I-75, at 70 MPH and walked away. the car was a total, right up to the drivers cage.

my dealer friend just told me that there are no decent lease incentives either. you can lease a DTS for the same coin as the Lucerne.

you are right. that northstar is tuned for regular, just as it is in the lower level DTS. the performance DTS takes premium. so, thats one minor flaw for the USA Today article. it cracks me up that buick outscores cadillac. am i wrong or is the Lucerne a little quieter than the DTS.

gm employee buddy, stationed in vegas, writes: I was at the Sahara Hotel yesterday for this press conference. It was held outside in the parking lot where the track will be constructed. The air was cool (50's), but the sun was nice and warm. If all goes as planned, this track should be set up by the first of April. Not sure how much "traffic" this location will see, a lot will depend on how well it is advertised at the airport and hotels. The monorail system here is a lot like Detroit's, it really doesn't really take you anywhere you want to go. It's just another way to get to the convention center from some of the hotels on the east side of the strip. However, this should be an interesting experiment - If it does work, there are plans to make it more permanent by building a large facility to house an indoor track. We have an group called R*Works that will be running the venue for us, they have been running the successful "Auto Show in Motion" program for us the last 6-7 years. If you guys get a chance to come to town, we'll plan to can take a couple of fast laps around the track in a Vete, and run a HUMMER thought the mud and rocks at the off-road corse.

we did that in flint. it was called auto world. major flop. belly up in no time.

they always say that its hard to pry money out of the hands of the 55 plus crowd. i think the best way to do it is this retro revival. bring in something that reminds them of their youth. build a car that they couldn't buy when they were younger but, now, have plenty of coin to blow on a third car but do not want the trouble of restoring a true classic. the name of the game is to build something to get the populus to part with their cash. making aging baby boomers look/feel younger is where the $$$ is at.

yeah, i am not too big on this flaw, either. i've had a few convertibles, including an audi cabrio with that cool auto top. we're out shopping for one, now. even though i am a michigander, when its "top down time" i am not going to want to screw around with putting the top up to get into the trunk and there are some things that you don't want to throw in the back seat. maybe this is why they tested the top so extensively. what was it, like 13000 cycles?

a buddy traded in his 750 li for an sts. which he'll give back once the sts V that he has money on gets in. bad news is that the the audio/nav unit died (just like on my cts, before gm bought it back). now he is wondering what he got himself into.

seriously pulling of some leg here. i asked someone at one of the displays about AWD and they almost didn't know what it meant. had to get a product specialist who, in turn, had to call a factory person on his cell phone.

they like the car cause they can say buick easier than chevrolet, pontiac or cadillac (caderack) or lincoln (ricon). just kidding. this is a value conscience buyer. they want a lot for the hard earned cash and, currently, that means buick. once they figure out how to steal the design, engineering (by reverse engineering) and violate the patents, it'll all be over for us.

i agree with some of you. that front end is going to elicit a lawsuit from bentley or rolls. other than that, change the color and smooth out a few lines and we may have a winner here.
