  1. I wonder when Car Craft or Hot Rod will transplant a Bolt drivetrain into a '69 Camaro? Or a Prius drivetrain into an old Celica? Seems like something the hot rodders would do..
  2. Saw perhaps the rustiest Ford Bronco I've ever seen yesterday..was sitting at a gas station, snow plow blade on the front...'78-79 style, blue and silver two tone. There were pretty much nothing left of the rear quarter panels--nothing but inner panels from the doors back to the taillights. Rocker panels gone. Door lower areas rusted through.
  3. Had some January thaw weather yesterday--sunny and in the low 40s. Went out and about to a few parks and beaches nearby..
  4. I read up a bit on the Ram 700...built in Brazil from a Fiat Strada...it's pretty old and dated, the interior is an early 2000s gray plastic hell. Available in regular cab and a 3dr club cab. It's probably too dated for the US, but something new like this perhaps could work for FCA.. https://www.allpar.com/trucks/ram/ram-700.html
  5. Yes, but it is a path to a compact pickup they could explore.
  6. Ya. And maybe they can partner with Mistu to get a compact and midsize sedan to replace the Dart and 200...
  7. The Fullback is a rebadge of a Mitsubishi, which could work as a Ram, since in the 80s a Mitsubishi pickup was badged as the Ram 50...
  8. Still plenty of boomers out there working--Sergio Marchionne, Jeff Bezos, Bill Belichick, Pete Carroll, Donald Trump (though he golfs a lot), Tom Cruise, my sister, etc..
  9. Fixed that for you. Baby Boomers still buy Camrys and pickups, though. It's funny, both my siblings are Baby Boomers and all my cousins are boomers (some have kids that are my generation). I've read that minivans are popular w/ many retirees, easy to get in and out of and room for grandkids.
  10. My Dad last bought a new car at 76, but he passed at 79. Yeah, I don't see the Baby Boomers lessening car buying dramatically for a while. My generation is small (X), but we will still be buying for a few decades..
  11. 54 to 72... (1946-1964 is the standard definition of the Baby Boomer years).
  12. The Fiat Doblo Work Up pickup is pretty badass...front like the Pro Master City?
  13. I don't know if it would be profitable to federalize the Ram 700--a mini-pickup based on an old Fiat car--that they have in Mexico now.saw a few in Arizona. 1500lb payload capacity. It would be a unique entry in the market. https://jalopnik.com/the-tiny-ram-700-pickup-truck-can-carry-more-than-half-1652291667 http://www.ram.com.mx/700/2017/?gclid=CjwKCAiAy4bTBRAvEiwAFtatHMTmrqNSK8P9HN9gDetiL46aSXxyL8B5JGD9vcelg1X1D4TpuZNiuBoCjy4QAvD_BwE
  14. Well, they would need to tool up a new cab, interior, bed, trim, etc..and being a Ram they could sell it cheaper than the Wrangler, wouldn't need the removable roof, etc. Maybe they worry a Ram midsize pickup would cannibalize sales from the Wrangler pickup.
  15. Surprised they aren't using the i3s for parking enforcement...like how the parking police in NYC use those tuk-tuk 3 wheelers.
  16. Both have ghastly overwrought styling with lots of odd contours. As far as the white ones with black trim, the use of the front black out is for different purposes--on the truck it's to look cheap, while on the Avalon it's to look scary and threatening.
  17. Piaf would be interesting. Or to target a younger audience maybe mix in some Daft Punk, Phoenix or M83...or Mylene Farmer (though she is Quebecois).
  18. Sacre' bleu! Now I'm hungry for crepes, boeuf bourguignon, coq au vin... I have some French restaurants I need to visit in Cleveland's hipster-infested gentrified neighborhoods..
  19. I could see DS coming as the premium brand, they would need emphasize the Frenchness as an alternative to the usual German and Asian luxury marques.... (DS is marketed as a separate brand from Citroen in Europe). They have some pretty good looking hatchbacks and crossovers.
  20. Wowza...would have thought the Jetta would have been higher on that list...I bet it was 10-15 years ago. The Golf is about the only one on the list I like..
  21. Maybe the aftermarket with come up with some chrome or white shark teeth for the grille opening.
  22. I don't M-B is worried about sales numbers for the G. It's more about exclusivity and rarity than volume. Besides, the GLS sold 32k in the US last year..so there is the volume luxury sales.
  23. It's not a volume model, it's a niche model. The Maybach version of the next gen GLS will serve as the biggest luxo SUV.
  24. Your 'point' is invalid. It works for M-B..they know what they are doing. It will sell as much as it needs to sell. Your comment about it being 'out of line' with M-B styling, well, I thought you were against brand conformity--i.e. the 'different lengths of sausage' approach the German car makers usually follow with their sedans--you always slag on that. Nothing wrong with having a model or two in the lineup that goes it's own, distinct way...the Wrangler doesn't have much in common styling-wise with other Jeeps, neither does the Corvette--it doesn't share styling with the Silverado or Impala. And both are considered iconic, as is the G. And the price point is irrelevant for such models.
  25. Reread my previous post, the G wagon's style is part of it's cachet. It wouldn't work if it looked like other luxury SUVs. And it's not their flagship; that's the S class Maybach.
