As far as the 'green' image of the Ecoboost or EcoSport names, that's really nothing new...in the past Ford and others had names for vehicles and engines that evoked an image of economy and efficiency---Econoline, Thriftmaster, Scotsman, etc...nothing different.

I remember Chinook...still a bunch of the later ones running around in AZ... the Hot Wheels reminds me of a sleeker version of this Chinook.

I would assume the Ranger will debut at Chicago? And maybe the Bronco? or too soon for either/both?

Nah, the Hot Wheels is from 1980 and the rear body is integral w/ the cab...has a neat little sofa and table inside..seems like something that might have been a SEMA-type show custom...

I've seen a few of those...even saw one in the Phoenix area still going about 5 years ago. Speaking of custom Toyota trucks, I always wondered if this Hot Wheels Toyota from 1980 or so is from Mattel's imagination or if something real was built like this, maybe a one off custom...

As was brought up in Chris J's post, GM is now calling their extended cabs double cabs. Which is odd, since Double Cab was always synonymous with Crew Cab in my understanding. Problem is everyone uses a different term for an extended cab---Super Cab, Quad Cab, etc.

Wow..that's f*ked up... and Ram calls theirs a Quad Cab....and doesn't Ford call their extended cab a Super Cab and the crew cab a Super Crew? Need standardized terminology for the body styles. The Terrorplane looks like an Australian Ute..which were called Coupe Pickups also, I think..car body with a bed, kind of the precursor to El Caminos and Rancheros.

Crew Cab is a Double Cab. Maybe you are thinking Extended Cab? (double cab is more of an EU/Asia market term, meaning what we call a Crew Cab). Since GM and Ram have normal doors on their extended cabs, I'm not sure the point of having an extended cab anymore, since the only difference between it and a crew cab is the length, rear doors, and rear leg room. Why not just offer a regular cab and a crew cab and cut out the middle version? Not sure of the value of the middle version. 4dr trucks--whether Extended Cab or Crew Cab, far outsell regular cabs. BTW, remember when Ford's regular cabs even had little rear opening extended cab style doors?

oooh..maybe a sleek roofline coupe pickup is the next un-exploited niche. Frameless door glass, lower roof, sleek c-pillars coming back like flying buttresses over the bed sides...

It's just a rebodied variation of the FWD GLA, I think.. more filler.

I could see that..have to look at it with an open mind...have to look past the brand's history as a marque of disposable cheap FWD appliances...
-
Yeah, out here in the burbs civilian use ones seem to all be crew cabs. And in Phoenix, they all seemed to be 4WD crew cabs...

Surprised the percentage is so low... maybe there are regional variations, but I ever see usually are crew cabs.

I assume the fancy opera window on the GLB won't make it to production.. so the GLB will sit between the GLA and GLC, I assume.

That's pretty funny...I don't mind driving in snowy conditions, but I loathe ice. As far as the gas guzzler list--woo hoo--Trackhawk! Surprised the Hellcat Challenger and Charger aren't on that list...

Yes they are...never dull...new stuff popping up all the time...

I like the GL/GLS and the ML/GLE... I like this wood trim better... After sitting in a few of these at car shows I can tell some of the shared hard points with the WK2 GC and Durango..

I don't get why you think it may be Bolt based...Hyundai and Kia are capable of developing their own technologies and platforms, I don't see why they would hook up with a competitor. Looking past the show car cheese of this version, the regular Niro is a good looking little CUV... the platform and technology is shared with the Hyundai Ioniq.

Maybe it's the color, but that striped (grooved?) 'wood' trim is really, really boring. Needs grain, color and pattern--otherwise it looks like a sheet of striped gray plastic...

It's a late 50s Dodge bed, is what I've read. The step side is the same as the large Studebaker truck, I think.
-
I don't think they are using GM parts...haven't heard of a GM-Kia JV. Maybe just working from a similar script as far as ingredients.

Notice how the bed on the smooth side Champ doesn't match the cab styling..care to guess which of the big 3 they sourced the beds from?
