Agreed... I have to go to work today..the only places I've worked in the past that took off all federal holidays were a municipal office and a bank..
-
That was a great game...I'm on edge watching the Steelers-Broncos game...

Indeed. I believe astronauts on the space station can actually see it. I'm surprised Ford or Chevy haven't tried to one-up them, with a blue oval or bow tie so large it extends into the taillights...or GMC with the three letters as tall as the taillgate itself...

Yes, Toronado XS. According to the Wikipedia, the XS and XSR both had the bent glass window, but the XSR had power t-tops that slid inward into the roof.. The design suffered from water leakage, and was only a one off prototype. The XS had a power sunroof. (fun fact: Tomica of Japan made a 1/64th scale XSR in white, I have one in my collection). All the '77-79 Impala and Caprice coupes had the 'bent glass' rear windows, similiar to the later Monte Carlo SS Aerocoupe back window.

Ramblings of a Dazed Photographer: 2016 Detroit Auto Show

Who knows, if the new Ridgeline is a hit, maybe Chevy will tool up a competitor off the Traverse or Equinox and call it....(drum roll) El Camino!- 15 replies

2016 Toyota Tacoma, Butt Ugly or just my take on their design style?
Robert Hall replied to G. David Felt's topic in Toyota
Looks like a Toyota truck..nothing really new or different, just another Toyota. Will sell well, no doubt. -
Yeah, I think only the Ram Rebel has the funky new grille There is also one trim level that has a chromed one with the big RAM letters..Ram 1500 Limited.
-
Random observation---I hadn't realized that it's only some Ram truck trims that have the silly new grilles with the giant RAM letters...saw a tv ad and looked on the Ram site, most still seem to have the cross hatch grille.

I haven't seen any mention of the platform designation..is this a new platform (Lambda II or something)?

I see the point you are making, did not realize that the black plastic molding was only available in black. So this does make it look nice in being color matched. Though I will say that I am impressed with the Skyhawk with the black molding and black hood patch. It looks good otherwise you are right would need to be black. Reminds me of the Honda Element and how long they sold it with black molded sections only before they finally listened to customers and started to offer it all in single monochromatic color. Kinda makes one think they went cheap on the initial release of color. It is really that much of a cost to have all monochromatic? Gray or black cladding has been a Jeep feature for decades. The Grand Cherokee Laredo had the gray cladding in the first two generations, as did the first generation Liberty.

I'll have to check out Loscil...like what I've heard so far..for ambient, I like of Brian Eno...I esp. like this track, 'An Ending (Ascent)', which was used very effectively a couple of times on Top Gear.. https://youtu.be/aKw5mbcE7VY

Kind of... on the Grand Cherokee though there are additional off-road capabilities added. On this one, it gets a tiny (and I mean really tiny) increase in ride height. So it's not quite a luxury package then? Well, that's kind of where the Overland Summit fits on the GC...luxury and off road capabilities.

A minivan makes a lot more sense as a people and a cargo hauler than a CUV. Usually much more spacious inside than a CUV.

It does have auto close. You don't need to slam the door, you just pull it into position and the car pulls the door in for you. Great, so more electronics to fail and jack up the price of repairs.Seems that auto's truly will become disposable consumption, drive 100K and recycle. These door handles will be a nightmare. Catch onto everything and break off causing more damage to the over all door is how I see it and I bet FORD makes a statement to NOT go through car washes as the door handles can get caught on the brushes and get damaged. Not a fan of the door handles. FAILURE in my opinion. As with any modern luxury car, the ideal use case is to lease for a few years, then turn in and move on. Or get the extended warranty. Definitely not something you would want to have when they are old and out of warranty.

Concept was considerably more elegant with the solution. ....and less functional. How do you grab that piece of sculpture? Yes, just looks like a cheap plastic tab...

Well, it is a GMC, so it's 'professional grade'... if you go by their advertising, it's for sharped dressed guys in suits in large cities...not outdoorsy guys w/ artisanal beards out grubbing around in rural areas... The song used for GMC advertising is an ironic choice, since one of the lines in Eminence Front is 'it's a put on'. Interesting..it's already up on the GMC site, w/ pics showing off the Denali version also..

Sounds like the new Acadia will still be a few inches longer than the GC, similar wheelbase, and about a foot longer than the Cherokee...close to the Highlander, and maybe 4 inches shorter than the Explorer, 6 inches shorter than the Durango (which is about 2 inches shorter than the current Acadia). Definitely within the midsize CUV/SUV sweet spot.

I like the styling, esp. the smallish 200 headlights and grille--kind of understated, and the rear treatment...rather dramatic compared to the stodgy, blocky current van rear. I can see going w/ the Pacifica name, 'Town & Country' is dated and stodgy, reminds me of crappy 80s minivans and wagons w/ fake woodgrain. Is it correct Dodge won't be getting a Caravan version of this? As an aside, since the 200 and Pacifica share front end styling cues, I assume the next 300 will also..that will be quite a change from the big mouth grille of the current model...

They have the Yukon for the full size, this fills the midsize niche, since the next Terrain is going to be downsized, isn't it?
-
I am surprised it has only a 6spd auto..shouldn't they have an 8- or 9- speed auto by now?

Went to work but was kind of catatonic...took a sick day yesterday, after my dog incident Sunday. Just kind of in a funk right now....my work is really boring currently, but it pays well.

What do you think of the door handles? Seem strange to me. But this is one car I want to see in person before I form an opinion of it...

Saw two road-rage morons on a busy street this afternoon...a silver Nissan Pathfinder and a black Audi A3 hatch...cutting each other off, blocking two lanes, horns, swerving, etc...went on a mile or so, then they both pulled into a parking lot...this being AZ, they probably shot it out...
-
I like the blue interior instead of the usual boring gray or tan. The door handles are wierd.
