  1. I see lots of lifted, off-road looking trucks around here, very popular in AZ....very few probably go off-road, though...most look too clean and polished..
  2. I noticed on the way to work yesterday morning that the neighborhood Toyota store has two of the new Priuses on the front row..a white one and a dark red one (like in the Super Bowl ads)...looking pretty badass lined up w/ the candy colored Scions and Yarises (I didn't realize they still offered a 3dr verison of teh Yaris)..
  3. Let's see...my current commute is approx 24 miles a day, 5 days a week. 120 miles a week, and then maybe another 25 miles around town on the weekends and evenings. So maybe 150 miles a week. At current gas prices, it's only about $20-25 a week to fill up (I average 16 mpg). So an electric w/ a 200 mile range could work for me, but I'd need an outlet outside to plug it in..don't have a 220 outlet. My current office parking garage is putting in charging stations for EVs. But it's all a moot point, since in a few months, my commute will probably be completely different...
  4. Then you are SOL, I guess... LOL. Never leave home without adequate fuel or charge.
  5. I suspect older EVs will be recycled before the rabble can get ahold of them..
  6. I had older parents also..Dad born in 1921 (WW II Army Air Corps vet), Mom in 1931...brother born in '49, sister in '57, myself in '70...from my Dad I got into Frank Sinatra, Johnny Cash, Hank Williams Sr, from my Mom I discovered Elvis and '60s soul, from my older brother and sister '60s-70s rock and pop....I had a Walkman early also in the 80s, and great radio stations in E. Ohio then S. Florida to listen to. So being a Gen Xer w/ Baby Boomer siblings and older folks..it made for interesting experiences growing up..my Dad retired at age 58, bought the first family RV and a beach house in Florida, so we went from 2 houses to 3 and an RV..grew up w/ a lot of road trips.
  7. The tighter turning radius has nothing to do with it being BOF, it's because of its north-south RWD/4WD drivetrain rather than the transverse FWD/AWD layout of the Equinox, Explorer, etc. I understand what you are staying and the point I am making is some people here feel Unibody design is better than BOF and can handle better than BOF. Yes the powertrain layout affects how they can do the suspension and the turn in and out of the steering. Yet the over all handling of my BOF is superior to many Unibody showing that engineering can and does continue to improve old technology to outperform many newer technologies. Kind of a moot point, as BOF is only used for trucks and full size SUVs today, and people don't buy those for handling.
  8. Looks like a typical modern CUV, not a wagon...should do well in NA and Europe..
  9. It makes sense if you don't want to deal w/ an aging car and the expenses and issues that come as the miles rack up. I've thought about doing it, basically get a new car every few years.... I've been lucky w/ my Jeep for 16 years, but I don't trust it enough to stray very far from home even w/ AAA. I always rent when I do a road trip.. Buying used cars is a dicey proposition, I've had mixed results and might consider something 2-3 years old, either regular or CPO, but with a warranty of some sort.
  10. The tighter turning radius has nothing to do with it being BOF, it's because of its north-south RWD/4WD drivetrain rather than the transverse FWD/AWD layout of the Equinox, Explorer, etc.
  11. As long as gas prices stay cheap the market for full size SUVs will remain, I suspect...I have driven the latest generation of Tahoe, it's a very comfortable daily driver and road trip vehicle..doesn't feel truckish at all.
  12. I'm a Gen Xer and like chrome, monochromatic seems like too much of an 80s thing, I don't care for the black out trim base look, definitely don't like matte finishes. Interesting that the red regular cab has a Nissan fork lift attached.
  13. It's good that they made it distinctive..Toyota already has many bland models like the Corolla and Camry that will appeal to the normcore crowd.
  14. I haven't seen it person yet, but definitely has a family resemblance to the Marai. Both the new Prius and Marai are bold, brash and distinctive designs. Not vanilla. Which is a good thing.
  15. I saw that movie, don't remember the plot beyond that there was Prius and a early 70s Chevelle also..
  16. A coworker of mine is excited over the new Prius, really wants one to replace his old one...(his wife has one also, the Prius V for the family hauler). He was going on and on today about the Super Bowl ads..
  17. I had to google that. Not sure what you found via googling, but 'B' = Beyonce. Some call it 'curves', some call it 'thick', I call it what it is : fat. She fat, and I'm not talking about phat. She's also known as 'Bey' or 'Queen Bey'.... I wouldn't call her fat, more curvy and Rubenesque....a fat singer is Beth Ditto..
  18. I turned the volume down during the halftime show...not as bad as The Black Eyed Peas a couple years ago. My favorite half time shows over the last 15 years or so were U2, Bruce Springsteen, Prince, The Rolling Stones and The Who...
  19. At least the hockey team is a Chevy... And Chevy named a truck after the state..and my Jeep is named after a city on the Texas-Mexico border.. Not a Beyonce fan...her routine looked too much like something from Janet Jackson 20 years ago... but Gaga's performance of the National Anthem was great...
  20. Watching the Super Bowl ads, I got to wondering..has Tesla ever had a TV commercial, don't recall ever seeing one?
  21. How about the Super Bowl Prius ads w/ the police chases? Definitely badass.. Outlaw Prius.
  22. Here you are wrong, the west coast has a massive charging infrastructure now especially with the electric highway initiative. You can now drive all over British Columbia and down to Baha California and charge all the way. http://westcoastgreenhighway.com/ I also wrote about this back in April 2015 http://www.cheersandgears.com/topic/84688-electric-highway-west-coast-style/ The electrification of the US will happen faster than you think and not 20 years from now. Tesla sells a butt load of auto's in Washington state and we are northern state so you fail in your assessment that this is a Southern state car only. US vehicle market was 17 million plus last year. about 4 tenths of one percent of the US market. that is niche. California is not the US. elec infrastructure will cost trillions and it ain't happenin in 5 years. Buyers who buy new cars this year, those cars will be on the road for 10-15 years yet. Stuff will still be petroleum driven for quite some time, the world doesn't change that quickly. Tesla did outsell Fiat though. Let's send Musk a medal for that. Get a map..West Coast isn't just California...but California is the largest auto market in the country...
  23. Minivan would be perfect for a teenager..would motivate him to save his $$$ and buy his own car..
