  1. I would expect to see these new pickups on sale a year from now (late summer, early fall of 2012 as MY 2013 trucks). If that's the case, how is one year too long? the article you posted says " as the automaker prepares for next-generation full-size pickups, expected in 2013." So maybe they will be MY2014....reasonable, 7 years since the last redo...

    Not really... I'm using evolve as in change...not necessarily for the better or worse, but different. Agreed about the tiny trunks. The poor outward visibility is what really annoys me. Since I rarely ever have more than 2 adults and dogs in the car, back seat space is not a big issue to me. As far as women go, my Mom (Lincoln Town Car, Navigator) and sister (Merc S-class, E-class) are anomalies in their taste in cars They like cars that are over 4000lbs...they've had smaller cars in the past, but not now..

    No, I'm just being realistic, living in the here and now. Times change, the car market has changed and evolved. Living in the past does me no good, have to live in the here and now, whether it is 'distorted' or not, it is reality... Anyway, it's pointless to blather on more in this thread. All I know is for better or for worse, the US auto market is evolving...into what, I'm not sure yet.

    Early Colt was 61" x 163", Sapporo was 67"x183"- markedly different size classes. "Underneath"s don't factor here. Note I said 'Colt and Arrow'. I didn't say Sapporo. The Challenger/Sapporo/Galant Eterna was a bigger car. 300. Typo. The TC is gone, out of production this year. Though I wouldn't mind having a LWB TC. Again, your view of the S-class as 'mid sized' is pure delusion, the E-class is midsize.
  11. It looks like the 300C Estate lasted until the end of that generation, MY 2010. Interesting to wonder what a new Magnum wagon could look like...would it take 300 styling cues so it can be sold as a Lancia in Europe, or would it take after Charger styling...

    Again, in 2011 reality, 205"x73"x5000lbs is a large car. It doesn't matter if it is not large by your 1959 perspective. This is 2011. The auto industry has evolved, metrics from 50 years ago don't apply... Same with horsepower..in the 50s, 300hp was a lot. In 80s, 200-250 was a lot. Today, 400 is ho-hum, 300 is what a typical family car V6 makes. Metrics vary over time. Colt and Arrow were the same thing underneath, I think (Galant)..and the Sapporo/Challenger were based on the Galant Eterna.

    The only Charger ad I've seen is the one with the black car in rainy traffic..great ad. I really like the Durango ad also, the one where they mention it's been away for a couple years..

    Yeah, they were about the size of the X-body Novas. By the mid-80s the M-body Grand Fury, Diplomat, and 5th Avenue were 'full size' but basically the same as the F-body Aspen/Volare as far as the dirty bits. Cars have grown, cars have shrunk over time. That's just the way it is..it's futile to try and compare across decades because the reality contexts have changed so much. It's fun to wallow in nostalgia for the past now and then, but spending too much time there leads to the downward spiral into madness and isolation from the current reality...

    Maybe not by a 1959 standard, but in today's market the S-class is a definitely big car...124.6 wb, 205 length..a bit narrow (73.7 inches) though..but definitely heavy enough (up to 5000lbs for the S65AMG). To put it into vintage perspective, an s-class is only 4-5" longer than an intermediate Plymouth Volare / Dodge Aspen. S-class is only relatively 'large', but in the big picture it's only mid-sized. The width is far too narrow. Again, though, this is 2011..a 'vintage perspective' isn't very relevant in discussing today's car market.

    Smooth, quiet and space is what I enjoy when I rent a big car. Too much noise in most smaller cars.

  20. I've found myself occasionally driving along w/ the A/C at max blasting w/ the seat heater on..wondering why my butt was warm. The seat heater buttons are too easy to hit by accident.
  21. Sunroofs are great here in the winter. I have heated leather seats, but haven't used the heat since I moved here.
  22. Saw a black '62 Chrysler 300 2dr this morning...beautiful car. Also saw a dark red Mitsubishi i-Mev..strange little car..had a roof rack w/ surfboards on top (not very useful in the desert).
