  1. Yes... it's amazing how short-sighted the domestics have been about diesels...hell, my diesel Escort from '84 got over 50 on the highway. Why hasn't Ford had a diesel Focus here the last 8 years? Oh, they've been too busy building 3 ton Super Duty diesels...
  2. I think I'd ride the bus before I would drive a tiny sh*tbox. We need diesels here and now. The Aveo/G3's mileage is pathetic for such a tiny car.
  3. Since I work downtown right by city government, county government, and state government offices, I see a variety of official vehicles..saw several city Fire Department cars today--ranging from a '90s Lumina to current Impalas and an Intrepid w/ chrome wheels, all bright red. The city vehicles range from Impalas, Crown Vics, Colorados, Silverados, F150s, to a fleet of Priuses (!). On the street beside City Hall, there is a '95-97 Crown Vic police car that seems to be in the same spot everyday..odd to see such an old car still in service.
  4. Also saw a sharp red '80s BMW 635Csi and a white current style M6, with huge (22 inch or so) chrome blingtard wheels.
  5. Yes, I always liked the green colors the Orvis ones were in... ironically, I have a few Orvis shirts. Another model I've always liked is the '03 or so Overlands..had neat 2 tone seats. I thought about trading mine on an Overland a few years ago.
  6. Aggh...speaking of the Disney pop tarts, I was channel surfing and caught a video by Demi Lovato..she's a cutie..I actually met her older sister Dallas a few years ago at a restaurant in LA. (I had never heard of Demi then).
  7. Same reasons...unpredictable weather and mountains... same with Subarus...they got their initial popularity in New England and the Rocky Mountain West...
  8. I read an article a while back in Playback or one of the other on-line home theatre mags... the writer was speculating a lot of the overcompression is related to the rise of MP3s and people getting used to the sound of them. I'm a bit of an audiophile, but by no means an expert, but I have definitely noticed differences in playing MP3s of a track through my home theatre system vs. playing CDs of the same track vs. playing a record (45) of the same track..
  9. Yep..one year only..I've seen a few of them in Colorado...GCs, and Jeeps in general have long been very popular in Colorado...I think I read somewhere Colorado has the highest registration percentage of SUVs (and Jeeps) in the country.
  10. I remember hearing a couple weeks ago when the one out here closed..it was odd, it was all out by itself, not on Scottsdale's auto row...
  11. I've read that the 1st gen GCs were available with a 5pd manual in '93-94..never seen one, though. I've driven a couple XJ Cherokees w/ the 4.0L and 5spd manual, not bad..
  12. That 38 does seem really high.. I managed to see 27-28 mpg several times in my '87 Mustang GT (5.0) in 5th gear at 55 (back in the days of the 55 mpg speed limit). I've seen on the trip computer instant mileage in the range of 25 before in an '04-07 Grand Marquis rental cars, though.
  13. Yeah, I'd never consider Hummer a 'luxury' brand..cheap, nasty interiors, worse than anything in a Chevy. They were a stupid, ugly bling toy, nothing more. Nothing in the same class as Range Rover, a real luxury SUV. They should scrap and recycle remaining inventory now.
  14. Yeah, I know several people w/ 150-200k on '90s GCs...the weak link seems to be the transmission, but less so on the '99+ and up models like mine ..
  15. I'm wondering how long my '00 Jeep 4.0L will go...94k miles as of Monday.
  16. Hmmm..that looks like the Kia large sedan concept that's been posted on here before..has a very Lexus ES-like roofline.
  17. If I dwell to much on the state of the world today, it makes me really depressed... Phoenix is too sunny... some days I feel like being in gray wintry Cleveland listening to Nine Inch Nails (which is where I was 15 years ago and what I was listening to)... How are we going to get out this downward spiral?
  18. Saw a black Challenger SRT8 in traffic this morning--goregous--with a license plate reading 'NOT2GRN' and an Obama 08 sticker on the bumper. Woo hoo!!! Supreme coolness. Saw a yellow w/ white top 'Banana Boat' '78/79 Caddy Coupe de Ville lowrider this morning and this evening...very clean shape. Saw a silver '72 Impala Custom Coupe w/ a white hood sitting at a gas station, looked solid.
  19. +1 Chris +2. Sadly, recent history shows us that most Amuricuns want a 'shoot first, silence any questions' cowboy in the oval office...
  20. Well, Lexus is the market leader (top selling luxury brand in the US), so it's inevitable that they will be copied...
  21. For some reason, SAAB's have had an appeal to me for a long time, since reading about their rally exploits in Road & Track as a kid... back in the '90s, on several occasions I had fun driving the '92 900 Turbo my sister had then around the Boston area, out on Cape Cod, etc.. fun, quirky car. Not something I'd need in Arizona, but the AWD would be a nice to have if I moved to a place that has snow and ice.. I've never been much for FWD, but there are certain SAABs, Acuras, and Audis I've long liked..
  22. Yes! and it's a rare GM with a manual transmission, a feature GM seems to have largely forgotten on most of it's US brand models.. nice to see this coexisting with the CTS and G8 GXP... there is room for a variety of sports sedans within GM...they have more than enough pedestrian vanilla FWD models for the mainstream.
  23. The ultimate Epsilon-based car, sounds like. Sounds like a fun Audi-esque GM model.
  24. Uh-oh...I'd better watch out for black helicopters and 'burbans.. I've also been to Riyadh and Kuwait City years ago...
  25. Hmmm...makes me wonder how practical a road trip of 1000 (or 100) miles in a Volt would be..
