  1. I wouldn't really consider the ES and TL competitors...the TL is a more serious, driver oriented, sporty model-- more competitive with the Maxima and Saabs, maybe the A4..the ES is a softer, cushier entry lux model--just a fancier Avalon. I think the main competition for the LaCrosse is the Avalon,ES, Sable, perhaps the Azera..
  2. 'high gloss armor all'? Does any one still use that stuff? I haven't used that 15 years or more...I like a low gloss, non-reflective finish, esp. on the top of the dash..
  3. Probably a homebrew or low production model. I'm almost thinking maybe the Vector W8, but I think it had an OHV (SBC?) engine. I could imagine that it had an altimeter and brake pressure gauge. Or an obscure English cottage industry car, a Bristol perhaps? I'm staying away from Wikipedia..
  4. Uh-oh... full moon...does that mean PCS is going to become a kilted werewolf?
  5. Yes, there was a Torino GT notchback coupe in '68 and '69...rather rare, I think. Mercury also had a Cyclone notchback coupe in '68.
  6. I picked up the Sept. Top Gear today from Borders..they have an article on the Insignia...it's really a good looking car, IMHO (even for a FWDer!). I really like the interior detailing and design...
  7. Hmm..interesting analogy. I prefer to think of my Mac Book Pro as a Porsche 911 Turbo or Merc SL 65 AMG of laptops...pricey, fast, complex, fantastic.
  8. Nice... I've had nothing but trouble with HP printers..I had 3 of 'em in the last 10 years, they all failed in one way or another. I have a older Lexmark and a recent Epson (both all-in-ones) that have been great..
  9. Gift of Screws, the new album from Lindsey Buckingham. Liking it alot, some great guitar noodling on it..
  10. Yes, picked it up at a flea market about 10 years ago... in really good shape, almost no chips. Met. blue w/ red interior, white rubber tires, front axle turns left/right, jeweled headlights. I've built up a nice collection of diecast over the years, ranging from vintage Matchbox, Corgi, Dinky, Mebetoys, Solido, to more recent Hot Wheels, Johnny Lighting, Greenlight, Tomica and Siku and lots in between...all scales. Unfortunately, my collection is in 5 different places in 3 states currently. My plan is to get everything together in one place in a couple of years..
  11. Saw a couple silver Porsches this morning when out running errands--a Cayman S and a late model glass-top 911 Targa. Saw a clean off-white '65 Mustang, a rusty, well worn '70s Nova Concours sedan (lt green), and a black G8 GT...
  12. The fact of Bush getting elected twice points out the fallacy of that argument, though. Only an idiotic public could have elected the American Idiot. Also, please use a spell checker...it would make your arguments more coherent.
  13. +1. Rationality over rhetoric. Rationality over dogma.
  14. I remember that concept..didn't realize it had a Camaro angle.
  15. Well, like I said, it's probably from long before my time... we need someone really old to know this..
  16. Well, in the 80s, though, the overlapping between the CPOB brands got to the point that the models all looked much the same. All the generic, low quality, bland boxy FWD models that had very little differentiation in style or content...the X, J, A, N cars...
  17. I like the idea of the I6...too bad that engine never was used in any cars... I love straight 6s.
  18. Something from long before either of us were born, I suspect. Maybe a Cord 812? They were supercharged, and had a really cool dash w/ lots of gauges, IIRC. The Cord 812 is the car my Dad fell in love with when he was in has teenager and the 812 was a new car. Almost 50 years later, he and I built a Monogram 1:24th scale model kit of the '37 812 convertible.
  19. Yes, both excellent books..I have both in my little collection of automotive industry books..
  20. Verizon, LG Chocolate, 900 min/month, $79/month bill. I don't text. I like the Chocolate for the tiny form factor (fits in a front pants pocket easily), good sound quality, speakerphone works well. I read my email on it and the news, but thats about it. I'm a gadget freak about alot of things, but I like a basic phone that works well as a phone..
  21. Not going to happen, what with their lobbyists and the states that have Toyota plants...
  22. The point of something like this is just to keep the BPG dealers from whining about not having a cheap car.
  23. I never used ME...but was happy w/ 95 and 98 at the time, and liked Win 2000 and XP. My experience w/ Vista has been mixed...a total dog on one machine (Toshiba laptop), fine on another (Compaq laptop). I'm using a Dell desktop w/ Win XP Pro (and Lotus Notes for email) at my new contract, a bit of a step down from the Mac Book Pro at my last place..
  24. This got me thinking...the name Astra has been used by at least 4 brands, but on the same car and in different markets. What about names GM has used on different vehicles across different brands through time? Like Astro or Calais... I'm sure there are others..
