  1. I've read that the 1st gen GCs were available with a 5pd manual in '93-94..never seen one, though. I've driven a couple XJ Cherokees w/ the 4.0L and 5spd manual, not bad..
  2. That 38 does seem really high.. I managed to see 27-28 mpg several times in my '87 Mustang GT (5.0) in 5th gear at 55 (back in the days of the 55 mpg speed limit). I've seen on the trip computer instant mileage in the range of 25 before in an '04-07 Grand Marquis rental cars, though.
  3. Yeah, I'd never consider Hummer a 'luxury' brand..cheap, nasty interiors, worse than anything in a Chevy. They were a stupid, ugly bling toy, nothing more. Nothing in the same class as Range Rover, a real luxury SUV. They should scrap and recycle remaining inventory now.
  4. Yeah, I know several people w/ 150-200k on '90s GCs...the weak link seems to be the transmission, but less so on the '99+ and up models like mine ..
  5. I'm wondering how long my '00 Jeep 4.0L will go...94k miles as of Monday.
  6. Hmmm..that looks like the Kia large sedan concept that's been posted on here before..has a very Lexus ES-like roofline.
  7. If I dwell to much on the state of the world today, it makes me really depressed... Phoenix is too sunny... some days I feel like being in gray wintry Cleveland listening to Nine Inch Nails (which is where I was 15 years ago and what I was listening to)... How are we going to get out this downward spiral?
  8. Saw a black Challenger SRT8 in traffic this morning--goregous--with a license plate reading 'NOT2GRN' and an Obama 08 sticker on the bumper. Woo hoo!!! Supreme coolness. Saw a yellow w/ white top 'Banana Boat' '78/79 Caddy Coupe de Ville lowrider this morning and this evening...very clean shape. Saw a silver '72 Impala Custom Coupe w/ a white hood sitting at a gas station, looked solid.
  9. +1 Chris +2. Sadly, recent history shows us that most Amuricuns want a 'shoot first, silence any questions' cowboy in the oval office...
  10. Well, Lexus is the market leader (top selling luxury brand in the US), so it's inevitable that they will be copied...
  11. For some reason, SAAB's have had an appeal to me for a long time, since reading about their rally exploits in Road & Track as a kid... back in the '90s, on several occasions I had fun driving the '92 900 Turbo my sister had then around the Boston area, out on Cape Cod, etc.. fun, quirky car. Not something I'd need in Arizona, but the AWD would be a nice to have if I moved to a place that has snow and ice.. I've never been much for FWD, but there are certain SAABs, Acuras, and Audis I've long liked..
  12. Yes! and it's a rare GM with a manual transmission, a feature GM seems to have largely forgotten on most of it's US brand models.. nice to see this coexisting with the CTS and G8 GXP... there is room for a variety of sports sedans within GM...they have more than enough pedestrian vanilla FWD models for the mainstream.
  13. The ultimate Epsilon-based car, sounds like. Sounds like a fun Audi-esque GM model.
  14. Uh-oh...I'd better watch out for black helicopters and 'burbans.. I've also been to Riyadh and Kuwait City years ago...
  15. Hmmm...makes me wonder how practical a road trip of 1000 (or 100) miles in a Volt would be..
  16. Yes, they are nice..here's mine (well, my sister's, since I'm renting her house in Phoenix currently):
  17. That's a good one...I love that Chuck Norris website... I wonder if someone does a 'Chuck Norris feat of the day' mailing list..
  18. I've been through Lockport..went to Niagra Falls about 10 years for a bachelor party.
  19. I think I've figured it out. It makes perfect sense. Saturn is the 'European influenced' brand what with the Opel-based models, and now Pontiac is going to be the 'Pacific Rim influenced' brand, with the Australian G8, Japanese Vibe, and now the Korean G3 !
  20. I have a friend that actually traded a GMC Jimmy on a Prius..I'll have to ask him if he's go back to GM with the Volt.
  21. They seem strange, esp. WRT medicine... I have read a number of very good articles on the Christian Science Monitor website, though...on all sorts of topics.
  22. Not Scientologists, but I have worked with a Jehovah's Witness...kind of a strange fellow..HR warned him not to be trying prosletyze in the office..what I know of JW is that they seem cultish. I was never bothered by them going door-to-door in Colorado (gated community), but they have come to my sister's door here in AZ, ignoring the prominent 'no solicitors' and ADT security signs out front..
  23. Noooooooooo...that's science fiction.. Never known a Scientologist. They sound pretty nutty from what I've read, though.
  24. I believe in mathematics, science and technology--rational thought--not mythology. Therefore, I've always assumed that I'm superior to the religious right.. The views of the far right religious extremists don't hold up to rational analysis, therefore they are unworthy of consideration. I didn't say that. I believe in the Constitution, it's very important to me. But, some amendments have been repealed before (prohibition)...the 2nd Amendment is much less important to me than others like the 1st Amendment..it's not 1776, the Constitution has evolved over time with Amendments...
