  1. Cool..didn't realize the glass roof was out yet.. by the way, are the car dealers closed on Sundays in PA? That was one of the things I liked in CO, the ability to wander around the lots without being bugged by salesmen. Not like that in AZ..open 7 days.
  2. Agreed on that! I miss real Pontiac model names...
  3. That's just pure ignorance talking.. Platform sharing (like the Malibu, G6, and Aura, or Camry and ES) is one thing--each model has it's own distinct exterior and interior design), while the G3 and G5 are purely badge-engineered from their Chevrolet versions.. The G3 and G5 are the same level of lameness as what Chrysler did in the '80s--Dodge and Plymouth got identical sh*tbox FWD models that differed only in badging, grilles and taillights. It's a big step back for GM, IMHO, as they seemed to be moving away from such cheap tricks (i.e. like the U-vans/CSVs, which were 4 badge-engineered models)...it shows how little they care about Pontiac. It's just an afterthought brand now, sadly. ARggghhhhhh.... other than Cadillac, Pontiac has historically been my favorite GM brand, esp. the '60s-70s models..when Pontiac was relevant...the Solstice and G8 are the only ones I like in today's line, they are the only models today with any Pontiac 'spirit', IMHO..
  4. I honestly can't imagine anyone defending the J, X, A, or N cars of the 80s..they were absolute crap, GM at it's lowest point. The Cimmaron was an abomination, against everything Cadillac was about--it was a simple rebadge of a Chevy sh*tbox. The FWD garbage of the '80s are the cars that earned GM its poor reputation it's been struggling to overcome ever since then.
  5. Meh...they were still mediocre crap any way you look at it..lots of recalls and they rusted out quickly. Not GM's best by any stretch of the imagination.
  6. Interesting...never heard of it. Where do you get this stuff?? Fascinating. Reading the Wikipedia article, sounds like it was complete vaporware.
  7. Interesting..that Swift + Canada gets looks like a rebadge of the old Aveo... the US doesn't have it, AFAIK. The European market Swift looks like a much more modern car... apparently, the Euro/Asian market Swift is coming to NA in '10. Swift coming to US in 2010
  8. I'm driving less because my commute is much shorter now than it was a few months ago...was about 40 miles a day, now about 12 miles a day. Will probably do more weekend running around and short trips with cooler weather..the disgusting 105-115 degree summer heat of the last 4 months have kept me inside or in the pool on the weekends. Fall/winter will inspire me to do more road trips.
  9. The Vector was a pretty interesting story... I remember lusting after it when I was like 15... it was quite the dream car in the mid '80s. It's too bad the company never really got off the ground. I seem to recall reading that some of the prototypes used Olds Toronado transaxles. Another over-the-top mid engined sports car that never really went anywhere that I remember from the '80s was the Ceitza-Moroder..had a transverse V16 or something like that. Record producer Giorgio Moroder was the financial backer, IIRC. Anyway, the mystery car of this thread is something postwar, but not the Vector..is it American, European, or Asian? Can we narrow down the decade (50s? 60s? etc) and continent of origin?
  10. I wouldn't really consider the ES and TL competitors...the TL is a more serious, driver oriented, sporty model-- more competitive with the Maxima and Saabs, maybe the A4..the ES is a softer, cushier entry lux model--just a fancier Avalon. I think the main competition for the LaCrosse is the Avalon,ES, Sable, perhaps the Azera..
  11. 'high gloss armor all'? Does any one still use that stuff? I haven't used that 15 years or more...I like a low gloss, non-reflective finish, esp. on the top of the dash..
  12. Probably a homebrew or low production model. I'm almost thinking maybe the Vector W8, but I think it had an OHV (SBC?) engine. I could imagine that it had an altimeter and brake pressure gauge. Or an obscure English cottage industry car, a Bristol perhaps? I'm staying away from Wikipedia..
  13. Uh-oh... full moon...does that mean PCS is going to become a kilted werewolf?
  14. Yes, there was a Torino GT notchback coupe in '68 and '69...rather rare, I think. Mercury also had a Cyclone notchback coupe in '68.
  15. I picked up the Sept. Top Gear today from Borders..they have an article on the Insignia...it's really a good looking car, IMHO (even for a FWDer!). I really like the interior detailing and design...
  16. Hmm..interesting analogy. I prefer to think of my Mac Book Pro as a Porsche 911 Turbo or Merc SL 65 AMG of laptops...pricey, fast, complex, fantastic.
  17. Nice... I've had nothing but trouble with HP printers..I had 3 of 'em in the last 10 years, they all failed in one way or another. I have a older Lexmark and a recent Epson (both all-in-ones) that have been great..
  18. Gift of Screws, the new album from Lindsey Buckingham. Liking it alot, some great guitar noodling on it..
  19. Yes, picked it up at a flea market about 10 years ago... in really good shape, almost no chips. Met. blue w/ red interior, white rubber tires, front axle turns left/right, jeweled headlights. I've built up a nice collection of diecast over the years, ranging from vintage Matchbox, Corgi, Dinky, Mebetoys, Solido, to more recent Hot Wheels, Johnny Lighting, Greenlight, Tomica and Siku and lots in between...all scales. Unfortunately, my collection is in 5 different places in 3 states currently. My plan is to get everything together in one place in a couple of years..
  20. Saw a couple silver Porsches this morning when out running errands--a Cayman S and a late model glass-top 911 Targa. Saw a clean off-white '65 Mustang, a rusty, well worn '70s Nova Concours sedan (lt green), and a black G8 GT...
  21. The fact of Bush getting elected twice points out the fallacy of that argument, though. Only an idiotic public could have elected the American Idiot. Also, please use a spell checker...it would make your arguments more coherent.
  22. +1. Rationality over rhetoric. Rationality over dogma.
  23. I remember that concept..didn't realize it had a Camaro angle.
  24. Well, like I said, it's probably from long before my time... we need someone really old to know this..
