  1. No manual? That renders it pointless to me. Bleh.
  2. I can't recall the last time I saw a Collonade wagon in any condition. There was a 4dr '74 Grand Am (dark blue) in my neighborhood in Denver...kind of looked out of place in a neighborhood full of late model SUVs, Japanese and European cars (lots of Acuras, Hondas, Subarus, Toyotas, Lexuses, Audis, BMWs, Jeeps..)
  3. I think it's supposed to be larger than the current Malibu (Epsilon I). I'm not sure what game they are trying to change, but it looks like it is competitive against the Avalon and Sable.
  4. Looks better in these photos, but I still prefer the current model. I love the roofline and wedgy rear of the current car...some of the details of the new one are pretty strange..don't like the front fascia or the grille, or the lights (reflectors?) set into the rear bumper---they look like an afterthought. And the poorly executed rear door cutline (the door upper (window frame) cutline and chrome trim aren't aligned). I am looking forward to seeing it in person, though.
  5. That's pretty cheap for a very distinctive largish V6 RWD coupe. Pretty much everything else at around 25k is a FWD generic.
  6. Well, they already have the Caliber for a compact...maybe a sedan version would satisfy the compact sedan shoppers. Or a rebadge of the Nissan Versa...seems like a decent B-segment car. The Avenger and Sebring were developed from a Mitsu platform (Lancer?), but the poor execution is what is killing them...
  7. Yeah, I didn't see any real resemblance between the Insignia and the Buick concept other than the dimensions and a bit of a similarity in the greenhouse. The Insignia is the nicest looking of the new GM FWDers, IMHO, esp. the hatchback (why can't we get a midsize hatchback in the US??)
  8. Heh-heh...my experience has been that dreamers and optimists tend to get stomped down by the cold, hard world..only the cynical pessimists and nihilists survive.. As I like to say, there is no glass (is the glass half full or half empty)

To me it looks very close to the concept...very similar grille and headlight treatment, same taillight treatment, same side sculpting...the front fascia is a bit different and the greenhouse differs wrt to window framing. The small wheels on the 'production' version in the pics are underwhelming. Aspects I don't really care for that I did notice about both the concept and the 'production' version (if that is what it is) are the stubby front and rear, and the vertical tallness/thickness of the body relative to the greenhouse size...those seem to be current design trends that many automakers use.
  10. Whatever, that's neither here nor there..what's more important is what GM is going to building in the next decade...can they overcome what 25+ years of mediocrity has done to them?
  11. Just calling out your BS.. Round headlights were certainly nicer than the ugly flush headlights that were the rage then... the grille, badging, etc are design cues carried on through time over multiple generations. The '68-82 Corvette was the same car with updates, BMW's '94 models were not updated '68s. Mid '90s BMWs are certainly nicer and better designed than the forgettable FWD generics GM was churning out at the time. Face it, the '90s GM products were by and large forgettable crap.
  12. Toyopet hasn't been in the US since the '50s...they are renting old cars? You are exaggerating. A '94 BMW has some styling cues in common with the '68, but totally different and modern.
  13. I'm not sure to whom it was a 'disappointment', but the press has loved the Phantom and the coupe and convertible, and the sales have been high by Roller standards...
  14. The whole point of the side crease was to make it look Buickish (i.e. Buicks have had side creases like that in the past). Without the character line, it would like just another midsize generic.
  15. Well, rental cars are one of GM's strengths. They keep Avis, Enterprise, and Alamo rolling..

  19. I don't like the idea of Cadillac not having a proper 4000+lb, RWD V8 luxury sedan larger than the CTS. The big league brands aren't likely to give up their V8 sedans... they can get rid of the Escalade, I couldn't care less for that nonsense, but they need a good, solid world-class STS replacement.
  20. The most depressing rental car I ever had in all my travels had to be a 2003 or so Cavalier 4dr...it was being inside a gray Rubbermaid container.
  21. Interesting..I knew in Europe they FWD models, but I thought in the US Audi was now all Quattro.
  22. As far as the pics HE posted, the blue & white car is a '58 Opel Kapitan. The white car is apparently a '59-63 Kapitan. The front of the white one reminds me of a '50s Buick.. Opel Kapitan
  23. Yes...it reminds me of a '65 Malibu (the front end shape) w/ a '63-67 Grand Prix-like roofline. The dash has a very mid '60s Buick look. I was vaguely aware of this car, saw a magazine article on a white one a few years ago. Here's the article I got the pics from. Has a Chevy 327. Opel Diplomat coupe
  24. I like this Opel Diplomat 5.4 coupe..only 347 built between '65 and '67. Apparently about the size of an A-body of that era.
