  1. dash mounted record player... I believe it played 16rpm records.
  2. While I've never driven a DSG, I'd imagine that those crafty engineers over at VW have anticipated that scenario. Slowing down does happen on occasion and I would imagine that is a fairly major design criterion for a transmission to be able to handle.
  3. A manualmatic system is just a traditional automatic that allows you to control the up and downshifts either through padled or by wiggling the gear selector back and forth. A DSG is two manual transmissions side by side with two clutches. One transmission has 1st, 3rd, and 5th gear. The other transmission has 2nd, 4th, and 6th gear. The clutches are traditional manual transmission clutches except they are activated, electronically, by the computer. You start in first gear, the second transmission is already in second gear. To shift, the computer rapidly disengages the first transmission's clutch while also engaging the second transmission's clutch. While in second gear, the first transmission shifts from 1st to 3rd and waits for power to be passed back to it. The The transmissions pass power back and forth through the gears all the way up to 6th. This dual clutch, dual transmission setup can shift gears faster than any human could.
  4. EclipseImpreza RX-8? Technically not a 4 cylinder....but...
  5. Mercury Montego <with the 3.5> G35 Coupe Mercury Milan <4 cylinder-5speed> Lincoln Towncar Mazda RX-8 Volkswagen Pheaton
  6. well that criteria clearly doesn't apply anyway... does it?
  7. that's going to require a post in the "Pictures!" thread......
  8. I have no issues with my vision while wearing my helmet thanks.... There are plenty of helmets out there that won't affect vision.... unfortunately they might not match your bike or your hot leather jacket.... and god knows we can't have a clashing bike/helmet color combo..... edit: Oh yeah, been a rider since I was about 12 <off road back then of course>, and yes I've had ill-fitting helmets before, but I know now what to look for in a properly fitting helmet.
  9. I'd say that it looks high just because it has those huge wheels. http://f7.yahoofs.com/users/447cba24zdedfd...hQbEkEBta6zG5pE Not getting snow chains in here.... http://f7.yahoofs.com/users/447cba24zdedfd...hQbEkEBdLDxMv3s
  10. A properly fitted helmet should do neither.
  11. yeah.... kinda sad though, I've always thought the Rainier was easily the most handsome of all the GMT360s... the 9-7x and Bravada were tied at a distant second.
  12. Well yeah... but this isn't replacing a manual. They're using the DSG to replace an Auto. If you're going to get an automatic anyway.... the DSG is a great transmission upgrade.
  13. Volkwagen's Direct Shift Gearbox/S-Tronic twin clutch gearbox has been fairly canonized by all who have mashed its paddles. And now, the automaker's product chief Wolfgang Bernhard is suggesting that the gearbox will replace all of its conventional automatics in much of the VW kingdom shortly, including transverse-mount Audis, Skodas, Seats, and VWs. Apparently, VW is having a issues dealing with longitudinal applications at the moment. Bernhard also allowed that the VW has no plans to license the technology, preferring to keep the transmission for itself. Link
  14. just make sure to do a coolent change on it if it's around 60k miles or greater....
  15. instead he went to Yamaha.... smooth move there Duece
  16. dude, you need to wear a helmet when you drive your car....
  17. just sayin.....
  18. like mayo on white
  19. Except then we couldn't recommend cars that would be great picks. There are a ton of great sedans out there that would have been good for you that aren't A-bodies.
  20. I don't get the Titan references... it doesn't look like a Titan to me.. I liked it at first, and love now. It really could have gone either way, but at least it didn't end up like the new Navigator.
  21. <thread tangent> Oddly, GM having so many brands could actually be an asset if the market becomes very compartmentalized. As long as GM is willing to accept that each non-chevy division will be a smaller, boutique division while pulling off excelent product differentiation on the same platforms. 3 sporty coupes and sedans for Pontiac, no SUVs, no Vans 3 soft and luxurious sedans, one coupe/convertible, 1 crossover for Buick Full line trucks, SUVs, crossovers, and minivans for GMC. Denali versions for all. Full line for Chevy Saab go bye bye Saturn go for Euro-premium, light wood interiors, manual transmissions, hybrids for all. Hummer H1, H2, H3, H4 Line Cadillac up with Mercedes.... NOT BMW.
  22. I think Chevy and GMC should be the only divisions with mini-vans. Chevy covers the lower end, GMC covers the high end and effectively replaces the Terazza to take on Town and Country and the high end Japs. It may not be much, but there is a class distinction between driving a Town & Country and a Caravan. A GMC minivan should be the type that comes with leather standard, bigger engine standard, DVD screen standard. A GMC Minivan Denali should be available with a V8 and some decent <bigger than the rest> tow rating. The Chevy van should only have leather available on the highest of trims. No V8 available, and less standard features. Saturn can have one if they change the interior enough, make it kinda sweedish IKEA looking on the inside... and offer it primarily as a Green-line edition.
  23. Don't let the blue smoke choke you on your way out...
  24. He crashed just 4 blocks from where I'm consulting. We could see the news helicopters and the emergancy vehicles from th 26th floor. Then someone's cell phone went off with the news announcement that it was Ben.
