  1. Not content with a trade war just with China, Donald Trump has opened a second front in what is slowly turning into a trade world war. Yesterday evening, Trump announced that beginning June 10th a 5% tariff would be slapped on all Mexican products coming into the country. That tariff would increase to 10% by July 1st and then go to its 25% maximum in October. For automakers with razor thin margins, there is absolute certainty that the American consumer will end up paying these tariffs. The White House said in a statement: Goods from Mexico account for 13.6 percent of all imported goods to the U.S, totaling about $346.5 billion. Automobiles and their components are high on the list of goods that are imported from Mexico. Further complicating matters is that components can move over the border up to 20 times before reaching their final assembly location. General Motors and other domestic manufacturers are going to be hit especially hard. GM imported 811,000 vehicles from Mexico last year. One of their recent vehicles, the Chevrolet Blazer, caused a stir for being Mexican built when it was put on display at Comerica Park in Detroit at a time when GM was closing five U.S. manufacturing facilities. General Motors eventually took the display down and replaced it with a US built Traverse. Stocks fell sharply Friday morning in response to the tariff announcement.
  2. It's a tri-power engine that can run on 2 cylinders. It's cammed for low end torque over high end horsepower. I'm okay with the engine actually. I just don't think it's worth of the V series badge
  3. Ed Wilburn would have never okayed the mess the rear of the Ct4 is...
  4. I'm sure there are more than a few on here who will really appreciate your truck.
  5. @GMCman007 Upload some pics so we can take a look.
  6. There are some excellent examples near me
  7. Supercharging is free. There is a subset of Tesla drivers who believe that they should never have to pay to fill up their vehicles and for that reason, they only charge at Superchargers. This has become an issue in some California cities where people will park their Tesla at a supercharger station all day. Tesla was taking measures against certain high use owners for hogging the superchargers. My friends who have a Volt said their electric bill went up by $30 a month and they rarely ever use the gas engine... they go 3 months without filling up the gas. But these Tesla owners are being cheapwads and won't charge at home. Supercharging was always intended to be a system to fight range anxiety, not a primary fuel source. Of course, people start abusing the system.
  8. Infiniti had moved to Hong Kong in 2012 in order to better break into the Chinese market, however, Chinese market growth has been slow for the brand over the last seven years. Sales are less than 1/10th what Cadillac sells in China. While the headquarters for the brand resided in Hong Kong, most of the development work on the vehicles themselves remained in Japan. Now, Infiniti is consolidating back to Japan in order to regain efficiencies of working closer to home. Infiniti is working on becoming an EV focused brand by 2021 with every future model featuring some level of electrification or being a pure EV. One other area that will also see consolidation is platforms. Infiniti will use more Nissan platforms in future in order to spread the development costs over more vehicles. The current Hong Kong headquarters employes about 180 people. Most of those will be relocating Yokohama or receive some sort of severance. View full article

  10. I have to say, the XJ is one of my favorite big sedans out there. Sad to see it go, but it had a nice long life.
  11. No it hasn't. People just want to pretend that it has.
  12. It's going to take more than a decade for that to happen.
  13. The Sedan Apocalypse continues. Jaguar has confirmed via a spokesperson that the current Jaguar XJ will end production this summer. However, that is just one of the big cat's nine lives. Rumor has it that the XJ nameplate will rise again on a new car, possibly a large hatchback, driven entirely by electric power. From Jaguar itself, they said: So whatever happens, the XJ is not totally dead yet. The XJ had its best sales in 1986, with over 19,000 XJs sold in the US. The current car started life in 2009, giving it a good 10-year run, however, sales of the XJ lately have been pretty poor with only 1,579 units being moved last year. Related: View full article

  15. So, after a while, I gave up on Opera again. But Chrome and Firefox were still giving me trouble. I don't want to reformat my computer just because Chrome is acting buggy, so I tried out Edge. It's *gasP* finally good..... really good! One thing I notice about it is that my laptop runs a lot cooler than when running Chrome. I can tell because I can't even hear the cooling fan anymore when I'm surfing.
  16. GX is short for "lazy marketing department" But it does tell me they are saving the name Enspire for something else.
  17. Wasn't it you who said we already have too many brands? In Germany there might be anti-trust concerns, but I doubt it here in the US.
  18. Having to turn off hyperthreading on older servers really reduces the life of the machines.
  19. I would say almost certainly a new Trax is coming if a new Encore is coming (which we know the second part is true)
  20. as long as they can produce chips that don't later have to be patched to disable a significant amount of their firepower, I'm sold.
  21. The question I would ask is.... what would such a merger bring to either company. Ford would get cash and access to platforms and GM would get... what? F-150? No, I see a VW-Ford pair up as much more likely than Ford-GM. With Ford-VW, they have complimentary lineups. VW still has car platforms that can be used. Ford has truck and (better) SUV platforms. The only place they really overlap is a couple of SUVs and the commercial van segment. Lincoln and Audi could even co-exist peacefully as two very different takes on luxury. Ford-PSA is another, though less desirable, option. It would allow Ford and PSA to consolidate EU operations. It would give PSA access to the US market, and the two of them could take on China together. Maybe even throw a few sedan models back in the Ford brand portfolio. But no, not Ford - GM.
  22. That's the dash I had in mine. While it looked fine, the plastic was very brittle and things easily fell apart. I like the '95 because the interior is a bit more sturdy if slightly plainer.
  23. Well, it's kinda popular for people to verbally beat on the Impala, that's why I mentioned it. I know they sold a ton of them... just not to car enthusiasts. Yeah, I had one. It's the reason I originally joined C&G waaaaaaay back in the day. I was looking for tech help on the car and found this place. Eventually, I would come to own the website. I had a 1994 in the same blue as the emoticon above, with a slate gray interior and a black top. Of course, it was powered by the 3.4 DOHC.
