  1. $35k is way too much for this car. That will get you an Equinox Premier Diesel which is more fuel efficient or an Equinox LT 2.0T which is faster. You can''t even equip an Escape that high.. and again, the 2.0T will get you there faster. Ditto Forester At Toyota that gets you a RAV4 Limited Hybrid, so much better fuel economy whether you want to go faster or further on a gallon of fuel, there are plenty of better options out there for this price.
  2. When there is already another line that is building the same product, it is a lot simpler to do. Good on GM for not putting all their eggs in the CAMI basket like they did with 5th gen Camaro. The Union is trying to act powerful while negotiating from a position of weakness. It's not going to work out in their favor.
  3. I plan to someday. As I've stated before, there isn't an EV option that works for my needs except for Tesla (AWD = required), and I can't afford one of those right now. There is a big difference between saying "this won't work for me" and "this won't work for most/all drivers".... the latter is the impression you give in your arguments.
  4. He's talking about the temporary loss of range due to extreme heat or cold. In extreme temperatures, the Tesla, Bolt, Volt (and I'm sure others), not only have to climate control the cabin, they also have to climate control the battery. That takes energy to do and reduces range. The range loss is temporary and is not an overall loss of battery capacity, it is just that more of the energy from the battery is being used to keep the battery warm/cool. He is correct that this happens, but it still isn't that big of a deal unless he's driving cross country, in Canada, during winter.
  5. Some historian correct me if I'm wrong.... didn't CAMI try this "preferential treatment on the production of a specific nameplate" stunt with the 5th Gen Camaro also?
  6. You've already stated you are too far south to really need snow tires, but too far north to never see snow. You're going to be a lot warmer than in Chicago which is where that range loss of 50% was documented at constant 0 degrees fahrenheit temps. The Bolt article you cited was of a guy who, even in his own article, admitted that he had the EV configured wrong.. (he had the hill reserve switched on). You'll note that in neither situation did the driver mention running out of juice and needing a tow. Chicago has lots of chargers around.... that Tesla driver would be fine. ... and you'd be fine too. Until you can learn that you must think differently however, you will be stuck on this mindset and we'll eventually have to start posting this in response to your posts on EVs.
  7. F.U.D. = Fear, Uncertainty, Doubt You keep bringing up these out-of-the-norm scenarios that don't apply to most driving.... as I pointed out in my extreme example. If you could use a Volt and only use gas once per week (I assume you mean run beyond the 50 mile range, not that you'd fill up once a week), a Bolt would still suit you. You're still not driving 250 miles in a day once per week.
  8. He lives in the middle of Ohio... the first 4 hours of any trip are going to be boring interstates.
  9. Tesla store employees don't make a lot of money.... probably trying to subsidize his salary.
  10. I understand that thought process... but instead of spreading FUD like you're doing lately, perhaps look into what daily life with an EV is really like. If you changed your mindset on your fill-up habits, I think you'd find that a vehicle with the range of a Bolt would work just fine for your driving habits. I see both points. If it is a planned road trip, I have no problem with it.... but if I'm going to spend more time driving than in the location I'm heading to, and the location is the whole purpose of the trip... then I'll more likely fly. The drive to and from Florida last month was killer... and since most of it was overnight, I didn't really see much of anything.
  11. If that were the case, then we should all be driving Tahoe Hybrids. Because you never know if you'll need to fill in for the Secret Service during a fuel shortage.
  12. Yes, and the Mexicans might invade tomorrow, if they do, we'll all be in trouble. People (well most people) don't buy their cars based on "what-if" scenarios like that. 240+ miles of range and charging up every night is sufficient for 99% of non-commercial driving.
  13. For the amount of money you'll save in gasoline, enterprise will deliver a car to your door Edit: Also... you missed the part where you're starting out every day with a full "tank".
  14. you don't do a full charge if you're in a hurry, you only give yourself enough range to make it to your next planned charge. So if you're only planning on another 30 miles before you plug in again... just stay charging for 15 minutes. You're also probably not starting from absolute zero. Again, living with an EV requires changing your mindset on how, when, and how much you charge up. You'll rarely, if ever, do a full charge while you're away from the house and you'll start each morning with a full charge.
  15. DOesn't matter if the government pushes it if the cars aren't able to handle it. There is such a thing as recharging a battery too fast
  16. Tesla's high share price will prevent them from getting swallowed up
  17. whoops.. you're right. I haven't had my tea yet. but still.... it's not like it's slow.
  18. The Bolt gets a 90% charge in 30 minutes if starting from zero on a DC Fast Charger.
  19. 1. Having to use a lot of turbo in the type of slow speed rock crawling the Wrangler does is a BAD IDEA. 2. The Chrysler and GM V6es are not being out gunned by the Euros. You don't get a euro turbo V6 until you pay GM turbo V6 prices. GM is out gunning the blown 4 pots the Germans will sell you using V6es. If your only choice in a car is a turbo 4 or a naturally aspirated v6, you'll get the V6. The EPA numbers for the LX cars are always under rated.
  20. I have no problem with a turbo 4 in a Wrangler as a base option for suburban warriors who only buy it for looks. It is not a V6 replacement.
  21. Stop the trolling. The Pentastar and Hemi both have gotten regular updates. The Pentastar was updated again just last year. They didn't add power, they added fuel economy.
  22. The last 10 seconds of it anyway....
  23. Well.. not quite all are converted yet, there are 17 left in the state... but yes, in Ocn's area, there are no coal plants left. An EV plugged in at my house would be powered by Wind.
  24. Stop this.... horsepower / displacement is a dumb metric.
