  1. Depends. If it is a Chinese built Volvo, then yes, I would consider it. I would trust such a car that is designed by Volvo and who's production is supervised by Volvo. A car that is designed and built by a relatively inexperienced chinese company, no I would not. My car, a Buick Encore, is a German designed, Korean Built, American branded vehicle and I love it, clearly I'm okay with something along those lines.
  2. I do believe in Tesla as a car and as a company, but I do think the stock was seriously overvalued. It may turn into a good stock buy in the next 6 months though if it continues on its current trend.... eventually it will be worth more than the stock price.
  3. Cadillac sold 53,000 SRXes in 2014 while Lincoln sold 23,000 MKXes in 2014, In fact, the SRX outsold the Q5 (42k), GLK (35k), X3 (33k), RDX (33k), and QX60 (31k). Exactly what lesson should Cadillac learn from Lincoln again?
  4. Low number of chargers would be a deterrent for sure. There has been active work done in the US to create a solid charger network... that hasn't happened on the same scale in China.
  5. They are very profitable. Porsche uses some Volkswagen tech but not a lot. The times they do use VW tech, it is in the more general consumer cars than the sports cars. Cayman, Cayanne, Panamera, for example
  6. That was fast. The new Camry got rather ugly, so I'm surprised the people who prefer conservative appearance didn't move over to the Sonata.
  7. Where the engine was. Electric motors produce a lot more power for their size than gasoline engines do. The motor in the Tesla Model S is about the size of a large watermelon.
  8. It makes no sense to me that someone would buy a CLA or A3 over an ATS that is the same price. The ATS has a far better interior than either and driving dynamics more on par with the 3-series than either of the front drivers.
  9. The 2016 Miata was shown on September 4th. It was at the Detroit show, so I'm sure it will be in Chicago. http://www.cheersandgears.com/_/mazda-news/exit-stage-left-the-2016-mazda-mx-5-miata-r2362 We'll be working on the Chicago schedule in a week or two. I will be going to the press days.
  10. Just a few weeks ago, you said Audi was spending $30 billion. Can you admit that Audi is just pulling these numbers out of their ass to verbally "outspend" Benz? Does anyone ever go back and check these spending figures? Guess what, I'm spending $30 billion over the next 5 years on new product for CheersandGears.com..... that's even more than Cadillac is spending too.... but you heard it here first!
  11. The new CAFE standards actually have the reverse effect of what you're talking about... if anything, it will encourage automakers to build bigger cars. For example, all Chrysler has to do to keep the Hemi in the 300 without possibly being subject to a fine is increase the wheelbase by 2 inches. Gas prices are artificially low in this country even before they dropped because they aren't collecting enough taxes to pay for proper road upkeep. Fuel economy is important to car shoppers these days... no one trusts that gas prices will stay this low.
  12. S-Classes lose an entire E-class in value in their first 3 years ($60k). If you get the MKX at $45k and it's worth $20k 3 years later, you're still $35k ahead of an S-class buyer in depreciation. In fact, the MKX could depreciate 100% to $0 and you'd still lose $15k less than the S-Class buyer. There are bunches of 2012 S550 4-Matics around for $36k - $38k... those were $97k new.... that's OVER 55% depreciation in 3 years. That said, I really didn't like the MKX when I sat in it. The console is freaking HUGE! It's such a large SUV with so little space.
  13. I really like the tesla model s, but we haven't seen the Model 3 yet to know what it will look like.
  14. Cost is going to be the biggest hindrance once they're made legal.
  15. The price of gas is not an artificial restriction.
  16. That's an S-Class like depreciation percentage! Edit: Assuming you originally bought an MKX for $50,000...
  17. It's not about highway deaths at all
  18. Agreed, it doesn't quite look like a Buick. And the dash and center stack has a ridiculous amount of buttons, it looks cluttered. It has 7 less buttons than a typical Benz center stack and the dials for the climate control don't feel like the cheap plastic ones that the Passat and Benzes use. I sat and counted... just for you.
  19. I think we're looking at a next-gen Cruze silhouette and front clip right there.
  20. I have a number of new features planned for CheersandGears.com for 2015. The first new feature comes to us from long time member Balthazar. He has cued up trivia questions for us to answer each week. Some weeks, we will be offering prizes to the first to answer all 5 questions correctly. We will reveal the answers to this week's questions in next week's post. In the long-running TV series "Married with Children", what brand/model car was Al Bundy always bemoaning? Name 3 makes of American automobiles that have had special 'Hurst' Editions. In which state was the 'Springfield' Rolls Royce auto built? What was the first model year of the Chevy Bel Air? Which 2 U.S. brands of autos presented "Daytona" models in the 1960s? View full article
  21. The concept is on an amalgamation of older platforms. This exact car is a styling exercise, but one that could be built on coming platforms. Dont be surprised if certain elements of the next Lacrosse remind you of this car.
  22. It's the same button layout as the Encore... it's fine.
  23. You'll spend another $10k - $15k to do so though. That's what Nissan is targeting here. Almost HD loads and diesel torque to do it. It is a middle ground that no one else covers at the moment.
  24. But this has the engine that the Domestics don't have..... and Toyota will be getting something similar eventually. GM and Ford better offer a light-duty diesel very soon.
