  1. Cadillac also. They have a partnership with Carnegie Mellon Univeristy and there are autonomous Cadillac SRXes running around Pittsburgh.
  2. Cadillac also doesn't need to spend as much on development because it can share behind the scenes resources with the rest of GM. Does Cadillac really need a special door lock actuator that is different in design than a Chevy one? Cadillac is already going down this path by using the 3.6 as a basis for greater engines that only Cadillac has. Which reminds me... where is an ATS V-Sport? That would be a nice in between vehicle between the regular 3.6 and the ATS V-Series.
  3. I mean that the logic behind doing a law such as this is inconsistent. Why do car dealership franchises need this sort of protection but not hotel franchises or food store franchises? Giant Eagle, a grocery store chain here in Pittsburgh is a mix of Franchise stores and mostly corp owned stores. Franchises compete with parent company all the time in the marketplace, what make automobile dealerships so special that they deserve special protection?
  4. But see the laws as they were applied originally were to protect franchises from having to compete directly with the manufacturers of a product. That doesn't apply to Tesla because it has no franchises. Furthermore, if the original premise were true, why are we not "protecting" McDonalds franchises from corporate owned stores? There are McDonalds corporate stores out there. Same goes for Marriott. There are corp owned Marriotts right next to franchise owned Courtyards. Why are we not protecting Best Buy from the Apple owned stores (the answer there is that Apple price fixes their products, but that's another worm)? It is inconsistent logic.
  5. Multiple users have reported issues with the current skin we are using. I've opened a ticket with the skin's creator and not had any reply. If you are having difficulty with the current skin or it isn't rendering in your browser properly* feel free to scroll to the bottom and change your theme to Haze. This may become the new theme for C&G going forward after I make a few more adjustments. *Almost all problems are being reported when the user is on a Mac and using Safari. If you are one of these users, you will almost certainly want to switch to the Haze theme. Please please please report any issues to me promptly.
  6. See, I don't see that at all. Tesla doesn't have any franchises, so it's not like Tesla is competing with Tesla franchises by opening their own stores. There is absolutely ZERO consumer protection being done here. Fisker had franchises and the owners of those cars are just as far up the creek without a paddle as if they were sold the cars by Fisker directly. Saab owners are being saved, not by dealers, GM, or Spyker, but by a third party company that sees a business opportunity in manufacturing parts. This is protectionism for the existing manufacturers. Not the dealers.
  7. It's a shame. Out of the choice of all of those you mentioned, I'd still go with the Mazda 6... but Mazda can't seem to get much sales traction there in spite of being easily the best looker in the group.
  8. That would be a waste of money to build a car that could be better than the S-Class but people won't buy it simply because it doesn't have the 3-pointed star.
  9. It looks like a "future vehicle" we might see in the movies but never actually materializes.
  10. No, it was aimed at the DNS servers of our host.
  11. The host reports they have mitigated the attack. I'm going to leave the notice up until the morning and if everything seems fine I'll take it down.
  12. The server we're on has been under a bit of a DDOS attack for the last 8 hours. The server is fine, but the network connection is flooded. I will post status updates on the CheersandGears Facebook Page when I can't get on here.
  13. Most likely.... Rental service only.
  14. I'll let you know as soon as I see the schedule posted. Refreshed Terrain should be coming along soon.
  15. Depends. If it is a Chinese built Volvo, then yes, I would consider it. I would trust such a car that is designed by Volvo and who's production is supervised by Volvo. A car that is designed and built by a relatively inexperienced chinese company, no I would not. My car, a Buick Encore, is a German designed, Korean Built, American branded vehicle and I love it, clearly I'm okay with something along those lines.
  16. I do believe in Tesla as a car and as a company, but I do think the stock was seriously overvalued. It may turn into a good stock buy in the next 6 months though if it continues on its current trend.... eventually it will be worth more than the stock price.
  17. Cadillac sold 53,000 SRXes in 2014 while Lincoln sold 23,000 MKXes in 2014, In fact, the SRX outsold the Q5 (42k), GLK (35k), X3 (33k), RDX (33k), and QX60 (31k). Exactly what lesson should Cadillac learn from Lincoln again?
  18. Low number of chargers would be a deterrent for sure. There has been active work done in the US to create a solid charger network... that hasn't happened on the same scale in China.
  19. They are very profitable. Porsche uses some Volkswagen tech but not a lot. The times they do use VW tech, it is in the more general consumer cars than the sports cars. Cayman, Cayanne, Panamera, for example
  20. That was fast. The new Camry got rather ugly, so I'm surprised the people who prefer conservative appearance didn't move over to the Sonata.
  21. Where the engine was. Electric motors produce a lot more power for their size than gasoline engines do. The motor in the Tesla Model S is about the size of a large watermelon.
  22. It makes no sense to me that someone would buy a CLA or A3 over an ATS that is the same price. The ATS has a far better interior than either and driving dynamics more on par with the 3-series than either of the front drivers.
  23. The 2016 Miata was shown on September 4th. It was at the Detroit show, so I'm sure it will be in Chicago. http://www.cheersandgears.com/_/mazda-news/exit-stage-left-the-2016-mazda-mx-5-miata-r2362 We'll be working on the Chicago schedule in a week or two. I will be going to the press days.
