    Life goals

-Graduate from architecture school (only 1 1/2 years left) -Find that special someone (I may have already found her) -Buy a new car -Move to Chicago area (or some other large Midwestern city), work for a medium-sized firm -Purchase a house -Get married, raise a family Pretty much, I just want my slice of the American Dream.
  2. I worked at a meatpacking plant for 6 years, starting out making boxes on Saturday mornings when I was 15 and moving up to packing meat the following summer. Hours were long...6 AM until 4:30 - 6 PM (whenever production was done for the day), with only a 1/2 hour break at 9:00 and an hour lunch break. You would come home dead tired at the end of the day and end up doing nothing but sitting around because you were too tired to do anything else. Later on, my boss noticed I had drawing talent at my high school graduation party and moved me up to the office for a little while to do some sketches of a plant expansion he was proposing. He ended up keeping me up there to file documents, do price reports, make deliveries, and deal with customers and suppliers. He also put me in charge of setting up the American Cancer Society golf tournament for our area (which he sponsored since his younger brother died of cancer in '95), and I did that for three summers. It was a great job...I got trusted with a lot of responsibility for my age and got some good work experience that I have been able to apply to my current job.

I like the Deftones...I first got into them in 2000 when White Pony was released...heard "Change" on the radio and picked up the CD shortly after, never regretted it. Later I picked up Adrenaline, which is a little more raw but really good. I don't have the middle one yet though....I think it came out in '98. The Deftones are pretty original among most bands today...it's hard to fit them into a genre. There's a lot of variation between Moreno's vocal styles...one minute he can be softly whispering into the mic ("Knife Party"), the next minute his vocals become a wall of jagged distortion and anger ("Elite"). I don't think I'd go so far as to rank his as the best hard rock vocalist today, but he's pretty decent.

I don't see emo kids with a bottle of Jack Daniel's on stage, trashing hotel rooms, arriving in stretch limos with a chick on each arm, and putting out some killer twin guitar solos. :AH-HA_wink: Emo is way too sober and sensitive...80s rock was all about partying and excess...exactly why I like it! Not to mention that emo kids can't measure up to guitarists like Satriani, Vai, Lynch, and Eddie Van Halen.

  7. Have a happy birthday, fellow Olds fan!
  8. They also forgot to mention that America's most beloved automaker (Toyota) has more models at the bottom of this ranking than any other manufacturer.
  9. This is the case at the Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep dealer back home. The lot is completely packed, so even if they did want more there's nowhere to store them.

Nirvana.....I dug them 8th grade and my freshmen year in high school. I actually went on a downloading binge and made a couple CDs, one of Bleach, and the other mixes of their other albums. I also bought the live one...Muddy River or whatever it was called. But then I discovered Motley Crue and Metallica and kinda forgot about them. The only Nirvana song I've heard in the last year is Smells Like Teen Spirit, and that was months ago. I don't hate Nirvana or anything (I think they were actually pretty original despite the fact that they couldn't play worth a damn and they inspired all the post-grunge garbage), but I think there were better "Seattle Sound" bands out there at the time. Soundgarden and Alice in Chains come to mind.

  14. Crashing on a riding lawnmower would've been safer than one of those death traps.
  15. Hush little baby don't say a word Papa's gonna buy you a mockingbird And if that mockingbird don't sing Papa's gonna buy you a diamond ring And if that diamond ring is brass Papa's gonna buy you a looking glass And if that looking glass gets broke Papa's gonna buy you a billy goat
  16. I had a pretty good Thanksgiving, one of the better ones in recent memory. Last night, I hung out with a girl from another university who I met a few weeks ago. Her dad died recently, so we just spent it watching movies and talking. It was fun though...I found out she loves cars and actually knows quite a bit about them (she loves Porsches and Mustangs). Even though it wasn't originally intended, it kinda ended up being a date and went over really well, so we'll see what happens. But before that on my way driving there, my car stalled out at an intersection. I shut the engine off, restarted (after a few seconds of "rrr-rrr-rrr") and it died a second time. By now there were two cars waiting behind me and I was starting to get frustrated, so I started it a third time and stepped on the gas hard to get it moving and peeled out for a few feet. Well, this dick of a cop (who got in trouble recently for asking "favors" from females he pulled over to get them out of a ticket) was sitting in an unmarked Cherokee at the intersection and pulled me over. He laughed when I tried to explain that my engine had stalled out and he acted like a total jerk, but he let me go on my way. I drove my car home so I could take the Explorer down to Omaha and my dad took the car for a spin to see if it did it for him. That cop ended up seeing it and followed him around, thinking it was me (I told him I was on my way to Omaha). My dad pulled into the parking lot across from our house and opened the hood to look at it. As he was doing that, the cop drove by slowly again and my dad just kinda looked over and glared at him. Realizing it wasn't me, the asshole finally went on his way (apparently this guy pulls people over even if they haven't done anything wrong). Today was pretty uneventful...we had Thanksgiving out at my aunt's "new" turn-of-the-century house that they moved in from another town by flatbed truck. It's a big old farmhouse in pretty good shape with some nice woodwork. I heard a ton of funny stories about my aunts and uncles when they were my age...lots of crazy stuff I never knew. We had a big meal of turkey and all that, plus some really good desserts. We also watched old wedding videos for some reason...I got to see some of my antics as a little kid. Oh yeah, apparently selling cars isn't the only thing Mitsubishi is having problems with...on the radio, I heard this Friday you can get a hi-def Mitsubishi TV and not have to make any payments until 2009.

  18. I've been getting this a lot over the past few days. It seems to be getting worse too.
  19. Wow, that is simply amazing! Well done, GM!
  20. I collect pictures of cars from the internet. I have probably 3 Gigs of pics saved on my hard drive, mostly from the Big 3. I also collect Johnny Lightnings and sometimes build 1:24 scale Revel models. I have the Standard Catalog of Mustang and Firebird / Trans Am (great informative books with lots of full color photos), and also own the gold-cover "100 Years of Ford" book and the Oldsmobile 100th anniversary book from 1997. It's kinda sad to read the end of the Olds book, because they talk about great things that lay ahead for the brand in the 21st century...
  21. I agree their logic is mostly flawed. In theory, I can see what they mean by us paying more attention when there are no signs...for example, when you're driving down a residential street with no stop signs at the intersections, you generally are more observant of traffic at the cross streets and keep your speed lower. However, on high volume streets where it's just a constant flow of traffic, signs and traffic lights are absolutely necessary. There's an intersection in Ames where I wish there was a stoplight, because every time I try to make a left turn by crossing the other lanes, I feel like I'm putting my life on the line. America was not designed for a system like this, and as captainbooyah said, it would only cause more problems for pedestrians. There's a reason regulation came about in the first place...you're dealing with 3500 lbs of steel and glass that can reach speeds above 100 mph. Not regulating that is crazy, because not everyone is going to be courteous and cautious.
  22. I saw this a while ago on another website and didn't think much of it other than some dad let his dumb kid behind the wheel, but now that people are mentioning viral marketing, I could see it being possible. Notice how the camera turns away right before the Mustang supposedly hits the wall of the garage...also notice how they kinda plug the 17/25 fuel economy rating.
